I forgot about the the fellow church member who talked to me after service a couple of months ago. He let me know it was all in my head and I needed to let God heal me by just asking for healing. He told me to come over to his house and he and his wife would help me. I couldn't get away fast enough! I want one of those De-Glutinizers too! -
ARCHIVED Dry Mustard
i canary replied to IronedOut's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
From what I understand dry mustard is not safe. I get mustard seeds and grind them myself in a little coffee grinder. -

On my first visit to a restaurant after being dx I asked the waitress for help picking out something gluten free. She sent an "expert" to my table. The expert comes over and tells me "I hear you want a sugar free meal." Then today one of my co-workers who knows what I can't eat barley, wheat or rye offers me for the eleventh-teen time offered me... -

Like Jersey Angel I have been to too many doctors to count - more than 50 - less than 100... In 5 different states over 45 years. They all had one of three diagnosis: 1. food poisioning 2. an un-named virus 3. or nothing is wrong with you. Until I went to a medical doctor who was also interested in alternative medicine. Bless her!!!

I have the same problem. At one point both shoulders were frozen. I went to a chiropractor for 6 months then did water aerobics. I also did yoga for a while until the studio closed on me.

This is has been my experience also. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when I will sleep thru the night and when like today I wake up over and over again. I have had nights when I didn't sleep at all, but functioned all day just fine.

ARCHIVED I Keep Running Into Stuff
i canary replied to laurelfla's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I constantly run into doorways, trip over furniture, bang my feet and jam my fingers into counters. I once managed to trip over a shoe that was in a room that had nothing else it in (my only excuse is that shoe was a size 12E ). I always have unexplained bruises. I'm so used to being clumsy I don't pay attention to it anymore. Since being gluten-free... -
ARCHIVED Quitting Your Job To Recover
i canary replied to angels71's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
February will be 2 years gluten free. I'm a fanatic about it - I know I'm not eating gluten. I've done the research - I used to be paid to do historical research for a living. I've been ill my whole life but wasn't diagnosed until a week after my 45th birthday. I was usually given one of three diagnoses: 1. food poisoning 2. a virus 3. nothing... -
ARCHIVED Quitting Your Job To Recover
i canary replied to angels71's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I wish I could afford to take off for the three months covered under FMLA- I'm beyond tired a lot of days. Instead I found a compromise I'm working a 4 day week instead of 5 with a guarantee of 3 days in a row off. I've worked with HR to sign up for FMLA so I will be protected. I'm trying this for 6 months. Right now, I am always having to push myself... -

I also called Coca-Cola when I realized I reacted badly every time I drank one. The guy said according to Coca-Cola it was gluten free. I asked what does the phrase "according to Coca-Cola" mean? The guy told me it had 0.02% traces of gluten in it and that meant to them it was gluten free. I had a hissy fit - this isn't gluten free to me!!!! I've been... -

ARCHIVED Does Anyone Get Angry At Having This Illness?
i canary replied to sillyyak's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm not angry at having this disease I've focused my anger at the medical community. I was dx 2 years this coming February after spending my whole life being sick. (I was dx a week after my 45th birthday). I'm working hard to get rid of my anger at all the doctors that told me nothing was wrong with me and to go home. My body still hasn't recovered even... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Is Scary
i canary replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs

ARCHIVED What's Your Comfort Food?
i canary replied to mookie03's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My favorite comfort food is a grilled cheese sandwich (made with homemade gluten-free bread). -
Hi All, I live 35 miles from Nashville. I'm looking for a doctor and a dentist who already know about Celiac and are willing to treat someone with it. I'll go anywhere in the Middle Tennessee area for a good doctor. I have a doctor now, but she is sick and unable to treat patients on a regular basis. I've tried to find a dentist on my own, but they...

ARCHIVED Is Anyone Else Tired Of Being Freezing?
i canary replied to jessika393's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I thought I was the only one. I freeze during the day and wake up sweating at night. I was feeling a little weird about it. At work when I'm at my desk I use a space heater (I've been known to turn in on in July) and wear a shawl or my winter coat. They think I'm nuts at work. By the way I live in Tennessee - I don't want to even imagine how cold... -
Beverly, I wanted to add my congratuations too! I want to get my masters, but so far haven't had enough relieve from the brain fog to do it. I've had to drop out twice now. You give me hope that I too can one day go further with my education. Thank you.

ARCHIVED 39 And Newly Diagnosed
i canary replied to kray39's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hi Kim, It is intimidating at first, but it gets better. More and more companies are labeling their gluten free items. For instance Wal-mart has started labeling their brand when it is gluten free. Where I live there isn't a health food store, but the local Krogers have a small health food section that have some gluten free items. And of course there... -

ARCHIVED Is Scotch Tape Gluten Free?
i canary replied to i canary's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Susan, Didn't occur to me it would be a problem so I didn't was my hands afterwards. Will try that next - but I'm one of the lucky ones who is very sensitive to gluten so I may just have to use gift bags from this point on. Example of being too sensistive ... I've been gluten by doorknobs at work. Didn't figure that one out until I saw someone walk...
