ARCHIVED Email From Cracker Barrel
i canary replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Nope - I don't know where they are located in Nashville. I'm usually in Nashville for a doctor's visit - then I visit Wild Oats (if I'm up to it) and then it's back home for me. By the way - I really like the Donelson area, it's beautiful. They may be baked - I don't know. All I know is I have triple checked with the mgrs - not the waitress/waiters... -
ARCHIVED Email From Cracker Barrel
i canary replied to glutenfreeheather's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I've eaten at Cracker Barrell in Franklin and Murfreesboro, TN. The managers were extremely helpful. One manager at the Cracker Barrell in Murfreesboro (at Old Fort Pkwy) has a grandfather with Celiac so he knew to be careful. I'm hyper sensitive to gluten and had no problems. There are several veggies that are okay, the steak fries are ok and their hamburger... -
I paid $100 to find out I need to eat more protein. I didn't go back for the $50 follow up. (She was recommended as a gluten free diet expert --- she wasn't)

I was diagnosed with candidia and celiac on the same day. I followed the candidia diet for 2 years and I am finally free of it. Dr. William Crook has a book "The Yeast Connection" that tells you what to eat and not to eat. Basically - don't eat: yeast, sugar, cheese, baking powder, vinegar, fruit juice and put your leftovers in the freezer not the refrigerator...

ARCHIVED What If You Don't Go Gluten Free
i canary replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Jodikris, Glad you are getting an appointment with a gastroenterologist!! I think all of us has felt at one time or another alone. I'm the only one in my circle of friends, co-workers and family that has Celiac. It's hard to be the only one who has to be so careful. I get tired of being the odd one. I'm being to think my role in their life is... -

ARCHIVED What If You Don't Go Gluten Free
i canary replied to jodikris's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Motivation - I can give you motivation. I have been sick off and on my WHOLE life (I'm 47 now). I was finally diagnosed with Celiac 2 years ago (2 days ago was my anniversary). I ate some form of gluten every day until 2 years ago - for most of that time it didn't seem to affect me. I went months - sometimes years without a problem. I would have... -

ARCHIVED I Am Soooo In Trouble!
i canary replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Vincent, There is a local Nashville support group. It meets 3 times a year (maybe 4). The next meeting is coming up February 25th. I belong to it - it's the nearest group for me. It takes me 90 min. (sometimes longer) to get there since I don't live in Nashville - between that and the fact that I'm still sick a lot I usually just make 1 meeting a year... -

ARCHIVED I Am Soooo In Trouble!
i canary replied to VydorScope's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Hi Vincent, I saw gluten-free pretezels at the Turnip Truck in Nashville (on Woodland) the last time I was there. They had only the small packages of the seseame covered ones. It's been a couple of months or more, but that might be where your wife can find some. Regina -

ARCHIVED Ugh! Why Am I Still So Stupid?
i canary replied to VydorScope's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Vincent, I'm a little slow myself. I kept looking at the picture wondering how that could be you - and then I saw the words. It cracked me up! Thanks. One of first things I had to do was throw out my expensive pots and pans because they are aluminium - not because I thought they had gluten. (I'm just not that smart) It turns out that I have aluminium... -

ARCHIVED "you Might Be A Celiac If....."
i canary replied to VegasCeliacBuckeye's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
These are great - my cheeks hurt from laughing. I really needed a laugh tonight. You might be a Celiac if: you have ever looked in someone else's grocery cart and thought - I couldn't eat at their house. you have screamed from across the room "No double dipping" at an office party. you have been asked "so are you still dieting?" ... -
Lorka150, I loved your poem, but I have to agree with GlutenFreeAl - you gotta share the recipe.

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Sugar Free Recipes
i canary replied to BabySnooks's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Sharon, That's what I thought when my friend emailed it to me, but it works. It's the easiest cookie recipe I've ever baked. Just try it. Those were wonderful cookies. I had to say were because they were gone no time. -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free And Sugar Free Recipes
i canary replied to BabySnooks's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Sharon, I'm in the same boat. There is very little I found for sale that is both gluten free and sugar free (dessert wise). I did found some cookies from a company called Pamela's. They have 3 kinds gluten free sugar free cookies: chocolate chip walnut; coconut ; and peanut butter. I found them at my local Krogers in the health food section. The... -
ARCHIVED Could I Be Anymore Pathetic
i canary replied to Firegirl43's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I think you had a normal reaction. So far I just gotten teary eyed over what I can't have when everyone is eating something that looks and smells good. I have cried when I found something I could eat that I didn't know about. That's happened a couple of times. The last time was at Don Pablos last month when I had Cheese Nachos - the first Mexican food... -
ARCHIVED How Many Family Members With Celiac?
i canary replied to chrissy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I'm the only dx one. I have some cousins that are sick all the time like me, but they will not get tested. My mother said that her father could only eat milk and cornmeal - everything else made him sick. He died when I was a baby, all his photos make him look like a small walking skelton. All that to say I suspect that he had celiac disease.
