So why do I still get them? I'm wondering if having a low grade sore throat all the time is attributable to the stones and whether it means I should have my tonsils out or just wait to see if things settle down on the diet

ARCHIVED Waking Cold And Shaky
covsooze replied to ovalexpress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I've not been diagnosed as hypoglycemic, but I do know that unless I eat very frequently, I get shakey, irritable, thirsty, weak etc I've had bloods done lots of times to check for everything (I guess we all have here) and one thing that is regularly checked is my blood sugar and it always seems to be fine. -
Thanks ever so much Patti . Not very good with the searches here I'm wondering whether for me there could also be a dairy connection, as I have recently started having dairy again and have had other problems with it (mainly GERD). I had decided to go DF again and maybe that will be the answer. My tongue is also very yucky at the moment, so there...

ARCHIVED Waking Cold And Shaky
covsooze replied to ovalexpress's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
ovalexpress - i get this too and hadn't yet figured out what the cause could be. I know I don't have diabetes but also know that blood sugar does tend to be an issue for me, so maybe that's it. I did also get it more when I was very new to the gluten-free diet (I say very new - I'm still new to it having been gluten-free for 4 months). -
I get horrible foul tasting and smelling accumulations of food and bacteria in my tonsils which I've just discovered from the web are tonsil stones. I frequently have a low grade sore throat with them. I was wondering whether anyone else has them here and if there could be a link with celiac disease from the point of view of having a compromised immune system...

ARCHIVED Any "home-canners" Out There?
covsooze replied to jenvan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Thanks for that Kate I have started the tomato plants off indoors, so hopefully they'll be OK to plant out in June. I like the story about your dog and the cherry toms - the ones I've planted are cherries, so I hope our cat doesn't do the same thing. She likes playing with Christmas Tree decorations, and tomatoes aren't that dissimilar! -

Being a newbie to the whole gardening thing, I've got a very ignorant question How long does it take for seeds to germinate? I planted my carrot, lettuce and tomato seeds 4 days ago and not a peep from them yet. Am I just a bit too impatient?! -
ARCHIVED Brittle Nails
covsooze replied to deena647's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
This is a problem for me too, and my thyroid is fine at the moment. Problems with nails are a sign of malnutrition and it will probably take a while of being gluten-free for it to work it's way out, I guess. I think I must be starting to absorb vitamins better now (have been gluten-free for 4 months) as my nails are breaking less often. However, they are... -
ARCHIVED celiac disease In Toddler Without Poor Weight?
covsooze posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My DS, 3, has always been big, both in terms of weight and height, staying on the same centile since birth. He's had celiac disease bloods done as both me and my sister have celiac disease. his bloods were negative. he does however have squishy poos on a regular basis - sometimes 3 a day. Am I just being overly anxious thinking he may have celiac disease... -

We live in a city, so very few deer here Sorry this is completely off topic, but I notice Kate that you're intolerant to nitrates. How did you figure that one? Me and DH both think they give us headaches. What symptoms do you get? -

Jen - the wrist thing is one of the reasons why I hadn't done craft in a long time. Since going gluten-free though, I don't seem to have had any problems with my wrists. When they were hurting in the past, acupuncture helped. well, me and DS have planted the lettuce, carrots and tomatoes today; also some petunias in our pot out front and we've repotted... -

ARCHIVED Any "home-canners" Out There?
covsooze replied to jenvan's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I've not posted on this thread before as since developing celiac disease I've been too exhausted to do any craft stuff or gardening. well, you'll be pleased to know that you've all inspired me! I've ordered some seeds to grow lettuce, tomatoes and carrots and me and DS (3) have planted some sunflowers and cress. our garden is small, so I'm thinking of trying... -
DS was allergic to raw eggs, but has grown out of the allergy. he had typical anyphylactic(sp?) reaction to mayonaise - difficulty breathing, hives, drooling, distress. Having said he's grown out of the allergy (he was tested in hospital to show that) I wouldn't be surprised if he's intolerant to eggs, as his excema tends to flare up if he has them in eg...

ARCHIVED Constant Gas
covsooze replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I was told by DS's paediatrician that the only sure way of testing whether you have an intolerance to something is to exclude it totally for 6 weeks then reintroduce it for 6 weeks. If you have an intolerance you will notice a difference. Having said that, my gastroenterologist just said to restrict the amount of dairy if it's causing problems. What I ended... -

covsooze replied to odcdinah's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hang in there! It will definitely get better Peolpe with celiac disease often have problems with dairy to start off with, so maybe you should try excluding that to see if makes any difference to the wind. I did and it made a huge difference. I can now tolerate dairy much better without the evil wind Susie x -

covsooze replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Rachel - I just wanted to say that I'm glad you finally think you're onto something with the corn - although sad for you also that it's something that's so tough to eliminate. I've found enormous encouragement from your posts and I really hope you get the answers you deserve -
I've always suffered low level depression on and off, but with the onset of my major celiac disease symptoms last year, i ended up on anti-depressants. I guess it didn't help that when I was feeling down I would turn to comfort foods such as bread, chocolate and cakes! The ads and counselling made a huge improvement to me, but I did experience a bit of a...

lol!! I do have gluten-full dreams too, in which I mistakenly eat pizza or the like then feel really guilty. I guess it's the perfectionist coming out in me Wish my gluten dreams were as exciting as yours Rusla!

ARCHIVED The Best Advice Or Info About celiac disease You Have Gotten From
covsooze replied to Jnkmnky's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I believe that if it weren't for this board, I would have found it so much harder to come to terms with being coeliac from an emotional point of view. And I certainly would not have been so successful at being gluten-free, cos the info from the drs pales into insignificance compared to the info shared here. Most of all, everyone's been so friendly and encouraging... -
ARCHIVED Moments Like These Make Coping Easier!
covsooze posted a topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yesterday, I let DS (3) have some of my pasta for his lunch as he's always wanting whatever I've got instead of what he's got. I said: you've got some of mummy's special pasta. DS said: but I don't like it. I asked him why and he replied: cos it's got gluten-free in it He also said later to DH: mummy's gluten free....to eat!! he's now making sure everything... -
ARCHIVED Worried About My Dad
covsooze posted a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Both my sister and myself have celiac disease. Dad has had stomach problems (dx -IBS) for ages. He also has arthritis, is always really tired, dark rings under his eyes etc It took a lot of persuasion from me and my sister to get him to have bloods done for celiac disease and they turned out negative. He refuses to have an endoscopy and won't go gluten-free... -
take a look at this recent thread: Open Original Shared Link I'm know my disc problem got worse with the major onset of my other coeliac symptoms. My doc said it's unusual to have disc dengeneration at 18, so maybe there is a connection. Or maybe it has been getting worse for me recently cos I'm getting older
