  1. Sarah, You said you were doing the paleo diet. Does this exclude gluten? How long had you been eating gluten prior to your blood tests? Prior to blood tests you are supposed to eat a healthy doses of gluten everyday for about 6-8 weeks. I am currently doing a gluten challenge where I eat wheat cereal, my own homemade bread, and other things with...
  2. When you say your celiac blood test was negative, does that mean the full celiac panel or the genetic test? I suggest going to the doctor and telling them straight out you are afraid this could be DH, especially with the way you reacted to gluten CC. it's also important that they know you have siblings with the disease. I would ask the doctor to biopsy...
  3. Oooohhhh, gotcha. You are wondering if you need further confirmation of being celiac. The endoscope is the golden standard for celiac diagnosis (see Cycling Lady's post prior to mine). I suggest you ask your doctor to refer you to a GI doctor who specializes in celiac disease, because that doctor will know what to do.
  4. Estes, I am sorry, but I'm very confused. Your first posting asked if you have celiac, and this posting you say you were diagnosed. Diagnosed with celiac? If not, diagnosed with what?
  5. What are all the celieac blood tests he did? What was the doctor's interpretation of the blood tests? Have you had an endoscope? I am concerned by your doctor's comments because it sounds like he/she blew you off. I didn't know rice could affect the results of the celiac blood tests. I believe if you test positive on any of the celiac...
  6. This is a really old discussion, but his particular post jumped out at me since it was written in 2006. And, here it is 10 years later, and this man with one post hit the nail on the head.
  7. These links have interesting discussions on celiac genes Open Original Shared Link Open Original Shared Link Here's a really cool illustration: Open Original Shared Link It is my understanding if you have no genes for celiac you will not get the disease.
  8. There could be another reason for having high antibodies. You could also have a sensitivity to gluten which often has the same symptoms of celiac disease, just not the intestinal damage. What does your doctor say about all this? I already know I am sensitive to gluten after eliminating gluten for about 3 weeks and feeling better, but I am currently...
  9. If you have celiac disease, you are not supposed to knowingly eat gluten ever again because to do so further damages your intestines. It's not an infection, it's a disease of your immune system--antibiotics don't come into play here.
  10. Squirmingitch, you're right, he does know Celiac is very serious-thank goodness. I think it's more his heart that is getting in the way rather than not believing I could have it. Whether or not I do have it, once the testing is done I will not be consuming gluten because I truly do not feel well when I do. I am already lactose intolerant and have a sensitivity...
  11. I think it is too. The only person who is having a difficult time accepting that it could be celiac is my partner, who first thought I had h-pylori (negative). His second cousin was diagnosed with celiac at about 11,and her intestines were pretty damaged, so he originally thought you have to have malnutrition and be underweight, and that it's generally diagnosed...
  12. My boss is great. He listened to what I had to say and said he understood. We've been working together for 12 years, so we know each other pretty well.
  13. I know....it's already getting tough. Today my boss asked if I was okay, was I getting enough sleep, etc. I explained to him what was going on. I am having a difficult time concentrating.
  14. Thanks, Cyclinglady. I will admit, I did enjoy a piece of my homemade French bread with my breakfast this morning....but my body is yelling at me right now. Hello heartburn (which was all gone when I was not eating gluten), and hello again to the heart flutters (nothing wrong with my actual heart, that was checked out).
  15. Welcome, Megan! I think you need to talk to the doctor about testing. Are you aware of anyone else in your family (your side and baby's father side) who has celiac, or who you suspect might have it? Here is a link to one of the forums here: https://www.celiac.com/forums/forum/10-celiac-disease-parents-of-kids-or-babies-with-celiac-disease...
  16. I had a doctor's appointment today and spoke frankly with her about my gluten intolerance. I am on a four week gluten challenge prior to the blood tests for celiac, which means I may be miserable until April 16, or longer to an endoscope date (I don't want another one, but they took only one biopsy of my small intestine last time). Regular bread is...
  17. Maybe it's the oil or the seasoning.
  18. Nicole, it's time to talk to your doctor and get tested for celiac. What you describe is not normal.
  19. Well, this only tells you whether you are sensitive to gluten, not whether you have celiac. Anybody who finds themselves sensitive to gluten should talk to thier doctor frankly (a lesson I am just learning) about getting tested, and for tests you need to be eating gluten.
  20. H-pylori causes ulcers, which are treated with medication and, I believe, changes in diet. I suggest going to the doctor with your concerns about celiac. Keep eating gluten because it's necessary to getting accurate results. If you have stopped eating gluten, then you will be required to do a gluten challenge for, I believe 4-8 weeks, prior to testing...
  21. @cristiana, it's not me then! Some text is missing from my screen too.
  22. How many biopsies were taken of your upper intestines?
  23. Hi Julie, What is descried here sounds like hot flashes. I have not yet been diagnosed with Celiac, and I know I will have to ingest gluten for a certain period of time prior to the blood test, but I have not eating gluten in about 3 weeks. My hot flashes, including flushing of my face and feeling like a hot wet blanket had been thrown over me, lessened...
  24. I had a telephone conference with my doctor yesterday about the continuing digestive problems, and I now have an appointment with her on Wednesday. I told her I have eliminated gluten from my diet and am starting to feel much better, so I'm pretty sure my problem is wheat and/or gluten. Hence, another appointment. Blood tests were never done prior to the endoscope because my heartburn was so severe that they wanted to do find out what was going on. The report says the GI did only one biopsy of my intestine, which is not enough to tell anything.

Thank you. I don't think they are celiac saavy. I may have to look outside the Kaiser system, and I know I have to start eating gluten again for 2 to 4 weeks prior to the testing. Mt PCP was confused as to why the GI doctor did not test for my digestive difficulties, considering I told him about my gluten concern and he read my chart which has plenty in it. I may have to look outside the Kaiser system for a GI doctor.
