  1. I am sorry you have had some disconcerting experiences with doctors, but that does not make them all bad. In fact, there are many good doctors out there. I hope you figure out what is going on with you and feel better soon.
  2. Welcome, Jackie. Have you been to the doctor?
  3. Wild Oats, Karen is correct that self diagnosis is not always the best thing, and many of us have done it and continue to do it. Good doctors (note I said good doctors ) are able to look at the entire picture of our symptoms and use their medical expertise to come up with diagnosis. However, it's easy for us to use Dr. Google and come up with a diagnosis...
  4. Karen, you have prompted me to do some better research. I saw a blurb online that said ice Breakers gum has wheat in it the ingredients, went to the Hershey website, and I don't see wheat listed.
  5. Open Original Shared Link From their website: Here are some of the gums you SHOULD AVOID. Bubble Yum Fruit Stripe Super Bubble Bubbaloo Bubbilicious Chiclets Dentyne Nostalgia Gum Stride
  6. Is your gum gluten free? (not all is) Any chance you are accidentally getting other gluten in your diet?
  7. I am intolerant to lactose and soy products, but I am not actually allergic to anything that I know of. I did an elimination diet and figured out foods I can't tolerate, and I had blood tests to figure out if I was allergic to a list of 20 common foods. I am supposed to have celiac blood testing here in a few weeks too.
  8. Week 4 of the gluten challenge- wheat cereal every morning, regular bread every day, and wheat tortillas for my lunch wraps. Right now, body aches that seem exercise related (weight lifting and running), even though I am doing the same intensity of weight lifting and running I've always done.  Just a few more weeks until my blood test. Counting down the days.

  9. Welcome, Neko! I suggest eating gluten and then getting tested for celiac, which is very serious, especially if untreated.
  10. Agreed! Gould, welcome and thank you for posting the updated list!
  11. I agree with GFinDC, carob powder is delicious! I purchase Chatfield's carob powder, the only ingredient being natural ground carob powder. I have chocolate sometimes but like to limit it because of the caffeine.
  12. Hi Bindy, Welcome! Sourdough bread made from regular flour as gluten in it, therefore being gluten sensitive you might react to it. I would suggest looking around for a sourdough bread that is made from gluten free flour. Personally, I would look around for a gluten free sourdough bread. Who told you this? This does not sound right. If you have...
  13. I used the lactaid supplement in a year and a half ago when I was in Ireland and wanted some regular ice cream from a snack shop. After eating the ice cream, I still got sick. I had no idea that I might have celiac and/or gluten sensitivity (doing gluten challenge for testing in a few weeks) at that time, so I thought the pill did not work for me. It would...
  14. Nobody is saying you aren't feeling sick. Some people might be more sensitive to the smells of baking bread (you would be surprised if you found out your neighbors have a gluten free home. ) and other things and chemicals. Personally, I feel pretty ill if onion and liver are cooking, or other types of foods. I'd like to suggest that it's smells and...
  15. Welcome, musichillpark! If it's nothing you ate, perhaps it is an odor from a cleaning agent or something else coming from your neighbor's kitchen area. Or, could you have a pipe leaking or refrigerator leak that has caused some mold? Flour/gluten is not going to come through the walls of your apartment, and even if it did you would have to ingest...
  16. Estes, if the studies are self funded by the company who sells the product then there is 100% chance that those studies are biased because they want to sell their product. I would certainly read Open Original Shared Linkdebunking the Juice Plus Claims. Stick to real fruits and vegetables and you will be fine.
  17. tigbes, Welcome! Thanks for the update on the Werther's, but what was posted here over three years ago was true then. Many food businesses have come a long way in more accurate reporting of gluten free products.
  18. Hi Shiffd, Welcome! I suggest calling your doctor asking to be tested for celiac disease, as well as a full blood panel to check for other things. Celiac testing is a blood panel followed by an endoscope. However, you must be eating gluten every single day until all testing is complete, otherwise you can get false negatives. If you have celiac...
  19. Welcome, @littlesista! I understand, hearing people say one thing and seeing them do another thing can be pretty irritating, especially when it comes to diseases and health. I think you're smart in not eating out with her anymore because it sounds like she does not take gluten free eating seriously. If she does not have celiac, I can understand why...
  20. You are a member here with our without a diagnosis.
  21. It's all in the perception: I think you will come across a strong advocate. Besides this, it doesn't matter what other people think.
  22. In addition to what others have said, it seems to me the cost for the preschool is one thing, and then those who want meals should have to pay extra for them. I would certainly write a letter to the head of the school asking that this be done. If certain children are not getting meals then they should not have to pay for them, period. Even though...
  23. Hi Thesummer, I don't have answers to your question, but I wanted to welcome you! Even here in America, celiac is difficult to diagnose and often not taken seriously. Is "UC" ulcerative colitis? Have you spoken to your doctor about the medication making your hair fall out?
  24. Well, for me it just goes away, but the funny taste in my mouth continues. Have you asked your new integrative doctor about it?
