  1. i haven't read through this whole thread, so i hope this is not a repeat. we have just used our old corn bread recipe and replaced the flour with gluten-free flour and xanthan gum, but, we have used corn flour instead of courn meal recently and the kids really like it this way.
  2. debbie, you have a really uninformed doctor!! celiac is staring him in the face and beating on his forehead and he refuses to acknoweldge it. my family is involved in a celiac study and the gal in charge told me they are looking for a more specific marker for celiac because they know that there are more genes involved.
  3. i don't think a gluten free diet will change the total IgA serum levels. our ped gi tested the total IgA serum levels when he did the first TTg levels on our family, i assume so that he would know what tests to run in the future. if i understand things right, TTg shows how much damage there is, and anti-gliadin levels can be raised in other conditions...
  4. whoa.......you're a tad off in your info. NO ONE can totally digest gluten---but celiacs have an auto-immune reaction to gluten that the rest of the world does not have-----total digestion or not. i've heard plenty about liver cleanses, but never seen any scientific studies to back it up. mis-information like this could be very damaging to an asymptomatic...
  5. a sibling of a celiac is more likely to have celiac than a child of a celiac. not sure why that is.
  6. i'm a little confused as to what you are asking. are you wondering about your anti-gliadin and TTg levels being in the normal range? what IgG levels came back high?(endomysial, TTg, etc.?) my son is IgA deficient also. on his original TTg test he came back with a .1-----the rest of us (normal IgA) came back with values such as: .6, .7, etc.----except the...
  7. i didn't remember that megan had had a fundo. i'm sorry it turned out so bad for her. we have had such a positive outcome with sylvia's fundo---i would really like for my twins to both have one. kassie's reflux is really bad. tiann's reflux is not as bad, but it is part of the reason that tianna is able to throw up at will----i guess i'm thinking it would...
  8. i've also heard that gluten free might help other auto-immune disorders----but i can't get my sister to go gluten free to see if it would help her liver disease.
  9. only one parent has to have it, but it could be carried by both.
  10. well, i'm up with really restless legs tonight---i think it has something to do with meds i'm taking---it's just not usually as bad as tonight. if megan is already taking reglan, you probably wouldn't have a problem taking it. if enough comes through the breast milk i guess you might have to adjust her dosage for a little while. i read one of my other...
  11. happy news is always wonderful to hear!!! congratulations!!!
  12. i was making tuna fish sandwiches today for the kids----when i called them to get their lunch, molly had to inform me that her sandwich had wheat in it-------i had totally spaced it and made her a sandwich on wheat bread.
  13. i'm close----i'm from southern idaho.
  14. the name of the other medication is domperidone. these drugs increase the amount of prolactic in your system. good luck----i really hope that they will work for you!!
  15. i was reading through the enterolab website and by the percentages they give of the people that have the assortment of genes they consider to be gluten intolerance genes, it seems like they would consider MOST of the population to be gluten intolerant.
  16. i noticed that they claim it can help digest the offending proteins-----but it doesn't say it can stop the immune reaction.
  17. some kids just have really soft baby teeth(2 of my non-celiacs have had to have some pulpotomies on baby teeth, but with celiac in the family i would sure want to get them tested if i were your sister------is she not testing because her doc doesn't feel it is necessary, or because she just doesn't want to do it?
  18. reglan will increase your milk supply because it affects the hormone involved in milk production. i don't think it needs to be taken on a long term basis, either------once the milk supply has increased, i think you can stop taking it. a friend of mine only had to take it for a short period of time. she had not been able to nurse her first 3 kids for very...
  19. i just read something about that very thing yesterday. (age of the expression of celiac) the article said that in the USA, it is more often diagnosed in adults, but in another country (can't remember, sorry) it is more often diagnosed in childhood. it was first thought to have to do with the knowledge of our docs---but now they feel like there is another...
  20. i took kassie and molly in to see the ped gi and have their ttg levels tested again. molly's levels are back to the normal range, but kassie's level was still at a 7---but she has admittedly eaten gluten. molly has gained 3 lbs since february, but kassie is down 3 oz since feb. the doc said she looks healthy, but he is a little concerned because of her...
  21. my family has now been enrolled in the celiac study being done at the university of california, irvine. we should be getting the tests kits in the mail soon. i learned some really interesting info from the gal that is in charge of the study. she said it is possible for a child with diagnosed celiac to have neither of his parents show the celiac gene with...
  22. have you tried reglan to increase your milk supply? i am so sorry your daughter is having such a difficult time.
  23. i'd definitely ask to have the test done. i have a tendency to agree with ravenwoodglass about everyone getting tested. i think that celiac should just be a routine blood test that is done when other routine blood work is done.
  24. what reflux meds is she on? is her dose adequate for her weight? could she possibly have enlarged tonsils? i think it usually takes a week to 10 days on an elimination diet to see any results---but i think it would be a really hard thing to do, especially not knowing if foods are really a problem. infant reflux can be a really difficult thing to figure...
  25. body cavities----drug mule......LOL!!LOL!!
