  1. i knew someone who's son had EE---he was strictly neocate only at 2 years old. there is also a condition called FPIES (?) that has some very similar symptoms. i have a friend who's sone had this and was also neocate only for quite some time.
  2. i can tell you about my daughter's procedure. it was called a nissen fundoplication. the top of the stomach is wrapped around the bottom of the esophagus and stitched in place, creating and artificial valve to keep stomach contents where they belong. a nissen wrap is a full wrap, a toupe wrap is a partial wrap. motility problems would one reason to do...
  3. one of my twins was having shortness of breath for quite a while before we figured out it was caused by reflux----so, yes, your hiatal hernia could be causing your breathing problems. i would like to have the surgery done on my daughter----the meds are so dang expensive. i don't know if she has a hernia or not, but she has a lot of trouble with her reflux...
  4. more often than not, hiatal hernias in adults are treated with diet and lifestyle changes and medication. are you on a PPI? my 2 1/2 year old was born with a hiatal hernia which caused pretty severe reflux and she had surgery just before she turned 10 months old, but hiatal hernias in infants are different than hiatal hernias in adults.
  5. hey chloe! i had braces just a few years ago-----i got them off just before i turned 40. they are worth every bit of pain they may cause----i didn't find it to be too horribly bad. make sure and use wax on the rough spots. i have 3 girls with celiac, an 11 year old and 15 year old twins---so you are right between them in age. my twins are both in braces...
  6. i didn't know any of the tests had a range like that----i guess it must depend on the way the lab does their testing?? i agree with carla---work on the constipation issue---the x-ray shows that it is definitely an issue---but not what is causing it. also, ask for copies of his test reslults.
  7. the stats that i have seen said 1 in 10 of first degree relatives and 1 in 30 of second degree relatives----but i can't tell you where i read it.
  8. i'm going to have to look at my girls arms and see if they are any better. i could have sworn that once i read that it was caused by an allergy, but i've never been able to find that info again----so maybe i was remembering wrong.
  9. some kids just get pains in their legs when they are growing. it is because the bones are growing faster than the muscles.(maybe that's backwards) i do not have celiac, but i go through spurts where i get a lot of sores in my mouth. i guess i am just trying to say that these things can be caused by things other than gluten----sometimes they just happen...
  10. i have come to the conclusion that celiac should be tested for routinely in everyone. one advantage to having a "real" diagnosis is that you would have a good idea of what to test for if you should have children or relatives that have mystery health issues.
  11. with a Ttg that high he's probably got damage, even if an endo doesnt' catch it.
  12. my husband has also seen an article in a magazine (time or newsweek maybe?) that showed actual brain scan pictures and showed how the brain looked different in a person with ADHD. christine

you can't see a hiatal hernia-----that sounds like a different type of hernia, but i can't remember what it is called.
  14. what is the brand of the oats your daughter is eating?
  15. all three of my girls with celiac were nursed for 16 months-------sure wish it would have protected them!!!
  16. i think what i am going to try is the elimination diet that they often suggest to nursing mothers--------i think it gets down to pretty bare bones to begin with. i am going to read up on it. do any of you know any good sites that i can look up any other instructions for a good elimination diet?

reflux is when acid washes back up your esophagus through the upper LES valve------so there is no way that reflux can be caused by too little acid in your stomach. the amount of acid you do or don't have in your stomach can definitely affect how BAD your symptoms are, though. even when the acid is neutralized, i can still feel reflux backing up in my throat...
  18. so..........is there anyone on here that eats oats and has actually had their Ttg levels tested?
  19. ok, here are my scores AQ=14 EQ=49 SQ=38 i seem to be pretty sociable, normally empathetic, but not very systematic-----still seems to fit ADD to me.
  20. ursula---i have done eliminating in my diet and i have had counceling several times over the years------neither of which helped a whole lot. i am going to try some eliminating again. i'm going to go try those tests now.
  21. my kids don't seem to havae a problem with them either.

my baby has had the surgery, called a nissen fundoplication---she also had a hiatal hernia repair. her reflux was gone immediately and she has never had any complications from it. she cannot throw up, but she can burp. at 8 months old her esophagus was ulcerated---she had the surgery at almost 10 months. my twins both have reflux also---i wish i could...
  23. could possibly be infant reflux---my baby had a really bad case of reflux that required surgery. i kind of think that the word colic means "i don't know what is wrong with your baby."
  24. just jumping in here-----i have had counciling and i have taken too many different anti-depressants to remember them all------without getting a whole lot of help from either. finally, about 6 weeks ago, after doing some research, and seeing a psychiatrist, i have been told that i score pretty high for ADD. my 23 yr old, who has been sucicidal and somethimes...
