  1. our kid's ped gi told me that the only thing he could see was that there didn't seem to be as many folds as you would see in a normal intestine,(but her esophagus looked good). i compared it to the picture of her twin sister's endo(done for reflux) and they looked about the same.(except the esophagus) turns out the "good esophagus" was actually inflamed...
  2. we've bought it a couple of times. christine
  3. supposedly, caramel color in the united states is not likely to contain gluten. so far, we have not worried too much about caramel coloring when it is listed on the label----and we are seeing improvement. for anyone who might know-------what would be in caramel coloring that could contain gluten? if it is only wheat---than the new labeling laws should...
  4. my son is having these problems, but i haven't been able to get him to spend the money to get tested yet. christine
  5. if this drug, with time and testing, proves itself to really work and be safe---i'd jump at the chance to get it for my kids!! christine
  6. i'm a little up in the air about the whole candida issue. i also have fibromyalgia as do two of my sisters and my mother. one of my sisters has tried MANY "alternative" things to treat her headaches, backaches, etc.(eventually diagnosed with fibro) all 3 of us (sisters) have been to a doctor (a regular MD) who specializes in candida. it didn't help me...

personally, i wouldn't wait for an appt. with that doctor----i'd call out of state if i had to---maybe even many states, to find an appt sooner than 6 months. christine
  9. just use a regular cornbread recipe out of any cookbook and replace the wheat flour with rice flour and add xanthan gum. we do this all the time and can't tell the difference. if you like your cornbread a little more moist, replace half of the fat with applesauce. if you like the convenience of a mix, put all the dry ingredients into a ziplock bag and keep...
  10. i had that same reaction to MANY antidepressants. it helped me if i took a xanax with the antidepressant for about the first week until my body adjusted----then i didn't have that crawly sensation any more. christine
  11. please post it!!!!!! christine
  12. i'm crushed!!! actually, i have never used phyllo dough---but i saw it for the first time in the store just the other day. what about pastry dough? the kind that you add butter to and fold over and roll out and then refridgerate and do it all over again several times------would it work with gluten free flour? (i've never made it with wheat flour) ...
  13. that is so thoughtful of you!! my celiac twins have a church youth leader that has celiac, and since my girls have been diagnosed, she has made sure that they have gluten free items when they are doing activities involving food. a short time ago they were having an "iron chef" cook-off at a church activity. i told my girls they didn't have to go since they...

  15. been there (am there?) we have 3 celiac kids without immediate gluten reactions----at least not that we have figured out yet. one of the sayings i love is "mcdonald's is not real food". i also have to wonder why someone who had a very sick child would be eating at mcd's on a regular basis. we don't eat at mcd's-----but i would if someone took me there...
  16. it must be in the air----i was eating dry cocoa pebbles out of a cup----would have had a candy bar if there was one in the house!! how many of you get the munchies when your not even hungry? i HATE when that happens---which is much too often-----sometimes i chew ice--------so i can think i am eating without getting calories. christine
  17. it is a study on celiac at the university of california, irvine. it is open to families with 2 or more members diagnosed with celiac or DH by either biopsy, positive Ttg, EMA, or positive skin biopsy. i found a link to the study from a post on this board----but i can't remember who posted it, or what the thread was about. the woman i have been in contact...

  19. yep, i'm the one with the stubborn son. once i get my family in the celiac study, he is willing to get tested since it won't be costing him anything. christine
  20. heidi---i had several meltdowns when my 3 girls were first diagnosed. we've been at this for 2 months now and it has been easier than i thought it would be. i have even been going gluten free with them since monday in hopes it might help some of my health troubles. (i tested neg for celiac) we are really fortunate to have a ped gi who seems pretty up to...
  21. i have been checking trix and cocoa puffs----but we live way out in podunk idaho----aren't we still kind of the last wild frontier? i'm afraid it will be forever before the safe stuff gets out our way! christine
  22. does anyone know if falls brand sausage links are gluten free? christine
  23. i finally took the plunge and have gone gluten free with my kids. today is day 4 for me. i don't know about my meds yet, though. i still have to call and check on them. i would love it if going gluten-free could make enough of a difference that i could quit taking alot of my meds. i wish i could say that i was miraculously feeling better already, but...
  24. last week my dh and i met our daughter (in her college town) and went to eat at outback steakhouse. i asked about their gluten-free menu and the hostess brought me one. we had a great waitress. when she saw i had the menu she mentioned it. i told her my kids had celiac and i just wanted to see what the menu had on it. i asked if they had many celiacs...
