  1. I've been through the ringer trying to get in with a dermatologist this week. It was so exasperating. I finally got an appt, but it's in May!!! My family doc finally said he could do a punch biopsy next tues. Is this the right thing? We just started using him and I don't know if he is up on DH or not. Any advice?
  2. My daughter was projectile vomiting 20+ times a day. She also had sever GERD and a sliding hiatul hernia. My son gets the runs.
  3. Suave and Salon Selectives are made by Unilever and will clearly list any gluten additives.
  4. When I first went on the diet, I couldn't seem to find anything to satisfy my sweet tooth. I started mixing a little butter and brown sugar together and having it as "candy". Since then I have learned that I can have lots of things, but I was so cautious and didn't know at first. I still like it, though! I also like gluten free cornbread dipped...
  5. I never thought I could possibly have celiac, until I recently went on a gluten-free diet for my celiac daughter and I have had some amazing results. My joint pain that had been undiagnosed for years is gone. I've been diagnosed with recurrent poison oak for years. I just thought I was hyper allergic to the stuff. It would go away with steroid cream and...
  6. We were in a very similar boat as you for my now 3 year old son. He's been going through tests and more tests since he was 15 mos. He had 2 negative biopsies and inconclusive bloodwork, but his symptoms were classic. We finally just started him on the diet and couple months ago and the change has been nothing short of miraculous. His D is gone, he's happy...
  7. Just wanted to add that it does get better. Also wanted to warn you to watch for health and beauty products. This was causing a lot of problems for my daughter and I didn't even think about eliminating them. Aveeno, curel, and some shampoos were our big uh-ohs. Kids put everything in their mouths, so this has to be considered too. I also have a list...

    ARCHIVED A Useful Specialist?!

A ood allergist can make all the difference. After trying some in my area, I started driving 6 hrs. to one in Mobile, AL. Dr. Leonard Caputo. the man is amazing. Try to check out the one you're going to. If you're anywhere near Dr. Caputo, I highly recommend him.
  9. I just had to post and say THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! Thanks to all of you, my kids are now gaining weight. We went to the ped. GI today. My son had gained a pound since Dec., the first he's gained in over 9 mos!!!! What's more amazing is that my daughter gained 4 oz. in one week!!!!! This may not sound like much, but with her heart condition and celiac, she...
  10. My son also had the geometric toungue and it was getting worse before we started the diet. It's normal now after less than 2 mos. He got glutened Wed. and said his tummy was hurting, but the tongue is still ok. This was the last thing to clear up for him. I don't know what else could cause that, but I would be suspicious. I didn't have any symptoms either...
  11. My son had a geographic toungue before going gluten-free, but it looks normal now!
  12. My son and I had some yesterday and he's had horrible D today. I couldn't figure it out. Thanks for posting this. I was driving myself crazy!!!
  13. Here ya go. Y'all may have a different biscuit mix you use, but I like this one. I'm new to this, though. I use water in the mix to cut back on carbs since my hubby is a diabetic. Enjoy! Chicken and Dumplings 2 boneless, skinless chicken breasts 3 ½ cups water 2 cups skim milk 1 McCormick’s chicken bullion cube 1 T. freshly ground black pe...
  14. Bob's red Meal has a flax seed meal that I use. I also take Morgan's flax supplement. IT says gluten-free on the bottle
  15. Talking about comfort food... I made chicken and dumplings last night that were wonderful!!!! I'm from the south and dumplings are something I've really missed. YUM!
  16. I have put together a list of things my son will eat for family members who keep him. I'd be glad to send it to you if that would help. He's 3 and very picky. I'd stay away from anything in a restaurant I couldn't verify was gluten-free. It's overwhelming at first, but it's not that bad after a while. I think most ice creams are ok, but always call the...
  17. I know what you mean about the celiac and diabetes thing. My husband is a Type 1 and my Dad, uncles, and aunts are Type 2. I learned to cook for them a long time ago. We started the gluten-free diet because of the kids a few months ago and there's just not much out there to help. I'm actually in the process of writing a gluten-free diabetic cookbook....
  18. We did allergy tests on my daughter to eliminate that as a possibility. It was not difficult at all and she was only 8 mos. old. By ruling this out, we kinda ruled in Celiac. If you can find a good allergist, it might be something to try if you are so concerned about it. My son only had a high IgG and has had an amazingly positive response to the diet...

    ARCHIVED I Need Help

This group is sooo supportive. Everyone here has helped me learn about the diet and implement it with my kids. There are so many lists of things. If I could send you anything, please let me know. The diet is not nearly as hard as you might think once you get going on it. I wish your family were more supportive, but maybe they can be convinced. I'll...
  20. My son't IgG was very high, but other Antibodies weren't so bad. he had 2 negative biopsies, but irritation was present. I finally put him on the diet and things have been sooooo much better. He is not autistic, but has speech issues and didn't walk until 16 mos. old. He had constant Diarrhea, irritibiltiy, failure to thrive (height and weight), tooth...
  21. My son had inconclusive results, so we did the gene test on him. I was afraid that some family members wouldn't listen to his clinical diagnosis of Celiac if we didn't have some kind of test to prove it to them. He was DQ2 and DQ 8positive from Prometheus. My daughter was a different story. After months of horrible GI issues (VERY long story), I went...
  22. I have a list that lists all tater tots as gluten free and we haven't had any problem with them.
  23. I went for an eye exam in Jan. and my eyes had improved dramatically. I had a baby last April and the doctor said that it probably improved during pregnancy (although I didn't notice it then) I never considered the 4 mos. of the gluten-free diet could have done it at that time. I've worn glasses for 22 years and they had only gotten worse, even after the...
  24. Thanks!!! This is great!
  25. At target I found some sesame rice crackers that are really good. Sesmark is the brand. The original are gluten free and taste great. They remind me of Sesame Tosteds, which I loved. I called and they are not processed in a dedicated facility, but they are on dedicated lines. I haven't had any trouble with them.
