  1. WOW!!!! I'm so excited to find you. My father had focal and segmental glomerial (SP?) nephritis From what I understand it is very unusual to find both the focal and segmental diseases in one kidney. Lucky him. He has been so sick for so long and I really think it is because of gluten. It just makes me angry to think that he might could have good...
  2. I've read a lot about how the liver can be affected by celiac. the liver and the kidneys are the 2 filters for the body, so it would make sense that those organs that rid the body of toxins would be affected by an overdose of toxins. For the Celiac, gluten is the toxin. I'm not a doctor, but it makes sense to me.

    ARCHIVED Shakiness

I get the shakes, but I've been attributing it to low blood sugar. Who knows, though?
  4. Just remember that gluten can be ingested through breastmilk. that's why I went gluten free for my daughter. Saying this makes it sound like formula is better, but my daughter reacts violently to formula. No one can figure out why. If anyone is interested, I did a graph showing the doctors how my daughter does with and without gluten. I wish I could...
  5. Just thought I'd pass along a recipe my dad used to make al the time. It was sooo good. Vincent - it tates a lot like th Pancake Pantry in Nashville if you've been there. 1 c. water 1 c. sugar 2-4 tsp. Maple flavoring Boil sugar and water until it starts to get thick. Add maple flavoring and serve with pancakes or waffles. It's a bit thinner than...
  6. I'm not sure what CL is either, but my chemistry was kicking in too. I'd thought the same thing. But really, 3 points low on that kind of scale is not very much (less than 3%). The .3 on the creatnine is about 40% too high, though. I'd think that would be worth more investigation. If your BUN is low, though that is great. Both numbers tend to indicate...
  7. Your daughter sounds a lot like my kids. They couldn't tolerate ANY formulas. We even tried the Elecare with no luck. My daughter will be 1 year old next week and still can't tolerate any foods or formula. The only thing she has been able to handle is a little pureed avocado mixed in with the breastmilk. She has a heart defect and had one surgery last...
  8. I too wonder about celiac disease being related to kidney issues. I haven't been able to find anything, but my dad had a kidney transplant 22 years ago. He has tons of celiac disease symptoms, but has never been tested. We're working on that one now. He has sooo many issues that I now know could be celiac disease. Anything over 1 for creatnine is...
  9. I think a lot of us here are in your shoes. I'm not familiar with Japan, so I'm no help there. I have a son who mostly eats meats and fruit with a little bread in pizza and an occasional grilled cheese sandwich. My daughter has a feeding tube and we puree avocado to mix with breast milk for her. I know you're not nursing anymore, but does she like avocado...
  10. I checked Lean Cuisine's website and they state that none of their meals are gluten-free. Just wanted to let you all know......
  11. I had been buying real maple syrup, but stopped because of $$$. I guess I'll be going back. I just bought log cabin. only used it once. I feel awful. I keep glutening my son with supposedly gluten-free products!
  12. I do a lot of my shopping online for baked goods. glutenfreegourmet.com is my fav. We have Publix and Kroger and I get a lot there. I'm limited on other options...
  13. My grandmother used to make a cake that used OJ in a butter cake mix, then she would boil about a cup of OJ with 1/2 C. sugar until it was thick, slice the cake, but leave it itact, then pour the syrup over it. It was soooooo good. She did this is a pyrex dish, so it wouldn't run everywhere. I would make one now if my hubby wasn't diabetic! I'd hate...
  14. I like the helper mixes too. I find mine at Publix.
  15. You sound exactly like my son. The gluten-free diet took about 3 weeks to work on him, so be patient. He is thriving now. His weird tests can be explained by his young age, but I'm not sure about adults. There are many levels of gluten intolerance. The diet typically needs to be tried 3-6 mos. Hope that helps! Since your doc is an expert, what advice...
  16. CarrieFaith posted this recipe a while back. I haven't tried it yet. Bean Flour Torillas 1/3 cup light bean flour 1/2 cup cornstarch 2 Tablespoons tapioca flour 1/2 teaspoon salt 2 eggs or 3 egg whites, or 1/2 cup liquid egg subsitute 1 1/2 cups water Oil for brushing skillet In a medium bowl, place the bean flour, cornstarch, tapioca flour...
  17. I'm so sorry!!! My daughter is turning 1 in a couple weeks and is 13-8. She's looks like a 3 mo. old. We have a feeding tube for her and it's wonderful. We keep it going all night and let her eat all that she will during the day (not much). It has literally been a lifesaver for her. I'm sure you've tried all the high fat foods, but we've been pretty...
  18. We do variations of pizzas too, but we use 2 layered togther with a little cheese in the middle to make them stick together. gives it a little more support. We also do quesadillas. It's basically a grilled cheese sandwich! I also add grilled chicken, tomato or whatever is on hand.

    ARCHIVED Baffled

Vincent, Something you might want to consider: My kids can't handle dairy when they have gluten, but are fine on a gluten-free diet. I think the gluten damages the intestines enough give them problems and then they can't handle the dairy, but are ok once the damage is healed. If you were accidentally glutened, it could have caused a problem with dairy...

    ARCHIVED Soda?

Anybody know about generics? WalMart, Kroger....etc.? Can't find info on them.... We need to save where we can!
  21. My son had an elevated IgG, so the bloodwork was considered inconclusive. Dietary response has been phenomenal. 2 negative biopsies, but it's so hard to get accurate tests results for those so young. Our whole family is responding well to the diet. I'm glad you have a good dr.
  22. I wad diagnosed with asthma at 8 when they were repainting my school. the fumes set it off. My primary celiac disease symptom is joint pain. I can't remember not having it, so I'm not sure when it started. I also have this blistery rash that went away when I went gluten-free - I now think it's probably DH. I've never been hospitalized with my asthma,...
  23. Your little girl sounds a LOT like my 2 kids. My son had 2 biopsies, both negative. His bloodwork was "inconclusive" We went through MONTHS (over a year) of testing with him and kept coming back to Celiac. I finally just put him on the diet and he is thriving. Testing under 5 years of age is very unreliable. If you want to rule out celiac, you can do...
  24. It took me weeks to get the hang of all of this and I still struggle sometimes. We've all been there, so don't worry. You'll learn too. I have a list I started for people who keep my son that has the basics on it. There's a list of foods that he eats (very picky) included. PM me and I can send it to you. I spent days going through my cubbard and med...
  25. My wieght problem is the opposite of all of you, but i have to work like crazy to get my kids to gain. Avocado is wonderful. One avocado had 322 calories and 29 g fat. Eat it in guacolmole or just in a salad or whatever. It's helping my daughter. We give it to her through her feeding tube after pureeing it. We also tried something called MCT (Medium...
