TCA replied to wolfie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You just made my day!!!!!! -
Thanks for your positive attitude Bridgette. I told someone the other day that I think God allowed my kids this diesease because he knew I needed something that I could have some control over. I can't control my daughters open heart surgeries, but I can control what she eats. It gives me some comfort to know that I can make her healthier. I sooo need...

ARCHIVED Celiac
TCA replied to Terrilyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to all the Newbies! This was helpful to me when I found it. It doesn't include known gluten-free companies, just mainstream stuff. These companies do not hide gluten and always list Wheat, Oats, Rye, or Barley if they use them: Aunt Nelly's Balance Oasis (Balance Bars) Baskin Robbins Ben & Jerry Betty Crocker Blue Bunny Breyers... -
ARCHIVED Rash...or Dh
TCA replied to skipper30's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I've noticed that my son will break out in a rash on the back of his neck and it spreads to his back when glutened. It also itches like crazy. I don't think it's DH because it's not blisters. He's also been gluten-free since Jan, so we're still figuring all this out. I get the blisters at my joints when glutened and I do think that's DH, but I haven... -

ARCHIVED Consultants Are Thinking About Giving Up On Gluten Free

Megan's is also a 14 French. We haven't had any issues withthe Mic-key button. I'm not familiar iwth the others you mentioned. I have changed the Mic-Key and haven't had any problems with it. The pureed avocado goes in great. I just mix it with the breast milk ahead of time and put it in with her feeds at night. We have a Ross pump and haven't had any... -
Who's Celiac Was Triggered By Gallbladder Removal?
TCA replied to shellbean's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
My grandmother passed last Sept, but I now think she had celiac. She had thyroid problems all her life and had it removed in the 1940's. My grandfather died in 84 and her health plummeted. She lost down to under 100 lbs, she had to have her gallbladder removed, she had D all the time and vomitting spells. She lived another 21 years, but was never really... -
ARCHIVED Mass Wasn't Cancer I Should Be Happy Why Am I In Tears
TCA replied to ravenwoodglass's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I'm so glad your tests went well and I hope you feel much better tomorrow. I think we all need a day from time to time to just be bummed, but like armetta said, we have to decide to keep going. My son has problems with control if he ever gets glutened, so I keep pullups for him. I know it's more acceptable for a kid, but it happens with adults too. If... -
ARCHIVED How Do I Explain Celiac To Others?
TCA replied to misgiss's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Another approach is to explain it for what it is - A genetic autoimmune disorder where the body mistakes gluten for a toxin. The toxin (gluten) damages the body causing multiple health issues, leading to premature death. Someone on here once said to insert the word arsenic for gluten when explaining it to people, Will a little arsenic hurt anything... -
ARCHIVED Does Any Of This Sound Familiar?
TCA replied to wonkabar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My pediatrician thinks that the results we see are Dx enough. Everyone has to make their own decisions, but for us, it's an easy one. If they decide they want to go back on gluten when old enough to decide for themselves, I will support them, but as long as we're the ones deciding for them, we're not worried about the formal Dx. My son will ask, " Does... -
ARCHIVED Consultants Are Thinking About Giving Up On Gluten Free
TCA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Gluten DEFINATELY can be in breastmilk. My daughter was sooooo sick until I went gluten-free and it made all the difference in the world. She stopped bleeding from her stomach through the g-tube, she started gaining weight, she stopped vomitting, and she wasn't lethargic. It was amazing... -
ARCHIVED Does Any Of This Sound Familiar?
TCA replied to wonkabar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed with eczema today. Another one to add to the list...... Kristy - It took my son about 3 weeks for the D to stop and about a month to start looking healthy. I don't know for sure what the answer is, but those were my observations. With the developmental delays - my son was almost walking around 9 mos. old, around the time... -
ARCHIVED Consultants Are Thinking About Giving Up On Gluten Free
TCA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Tracey, sounds like our kids have a lot in common. My daughter is 1 and has been tube fed all but 11 days of her life. She has terrible wretching and gagging constantly. She can't yet tolerate anything more than a bottle orally. She has a Mic-Key button. The ONLY thing she has been able to tolerate in her feeds is a mixture of breast milk, pureed avocado... -

ARCHIVED Consultants Are Thinking About Giving Up On Gluten Free
TCA replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If I remember correctly, you're pretty new to the diet. It takes time for the gut to heal and for things to get better. If her D is stopped, I would refuse to take her off the diet. Just make sure you are giving her the highest calorie/fat choices you can. Try something called MCT (medium chain triglyceride oil) You have to have a prescrition to get... -

TCA replied to wonkabar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
We do organic milk, but not cheese. It's a cost issue, but we do what we can. I too have heard that the hormones in milk are spurring early menses in young girls. I was 11 myself and drank milk all the time. I can't imagine my daughter starting any younger. It just makes sense to me. The only way we can get my son to eat yogurt is in the sticks that... -

TCA replied to wonkabar's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here I am Fiddle-Faddle! Thanks for your concern. It's just been one of those weeks. My best friend got married this weekend so I was busy doing bridesmaid stuff and still trying to pump and all that other fun stuff for my daughter. Exhausting. We also had to go to Nashville today for her to see an endocrinologist. They're now concerned about growth... -
My kids drs. are convinced for the most part too. It's to the point that the ped GI asks me if I want any other tests run. Their pediatrician took a continued learning type of class on Celiac to help my kids. It's so great when they care. I'm also glad your doctors are listening. I've been thinking about you. How is your little girl doing?

ARCHIVED Need Help With Toddler And Possible Celiac Disease
TCA replied to sarahjo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Thanks so much for the prayers. That is all that has gotten us through. I will pray for your family too. I hope your husband comes around. When my husband saw the improvement in the kids he was amazed and got on board in a hurry. I also wanted to let you know that my son, who had been on a nebulizer and inhalers has not shown one symptom of asthma... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With Toddler And Possible Celiac Disease
TCA replied to sarahjo's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Sarajo, I have been where you are and my advice is to FOLLOW YOUR GUT!!!!!!!!! Both my kids have had a lot of problems and my gut feeling is the only thing that has kept my daughter alive. My son is 3 and had 2 negative biopsies and inconclusive bloodwork. I found out later that testing is often inconclusive in kids under 5. I finally said to heck... -

TCA replied to chrissy's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I can't imagine what you're going through, but know that my prayers are with you, your daughter, and the rest of your family. Hugs coming your way..... -
I know EXACTLY how you feel when you talk about being your daughter's only food source. My daughter is the same way and she's over a year old now. She won't eat anything and gags horribly when I do sneak a little into her mouth. I am gluten-free, thus she is. She has horrible reflux and a feeding tube. It's so much pressure, expecially since I'm pumping...

I went gluten-free in Sept. I've worn glasses for 22 years and for the first time ever my Rx improved in Jan. Since then I have heard that gluten can cause damage that leads to needing glasses. My Rx is about 1/2 what it was. I was amazed as was the doc!
