Creamy One Pan Lemon & Dill Chicken (Gluten-Free)
trents commented on Jefferson Adams's article in American & British
No. Don't know where they were coming from unless the capers were cross contaminated with gluten containing grains in storage or processing. -
Samo1, It's just hard for people to believe that wheat, something considered practically all over the world to symbolize wholesome sustenance, to be harmful to your health. They can understand a peanut allergy because people have anaphylactic reactions to it that are immediately life-threatening. Celiac disease is not even an allergy. It is an autoimmune...

Welcome to the forum, Samo1! Your experience is very common among the celiac population. Many people, even some physicians, are skeptical of the reality of celiac disease and consider it to be either the latest fab diet or the product of an OCD personality. In their ignorance they are dismissive and intolerant. You raise a question fraught with...

The journey begins
trents replied to Penguintummy's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Not sure what meaning you are loading "false positive" with. The test is positive but on the low end so if the question is could the positive point to something else besides celiac, the answer is, yes, but a small chance that such is the case. It's too bad such a limited number of tests were deployed as additional testing could have given a more complete... -
Robbi, when the upper GI was performed, do you know if a biopsy of the small bowel lining was performed? An ordinary upper GI without the biopsy would not be checking for celiac disease.

Welcome to the forum, Hen! Your physician ran two tests designed to detect celiac disease: FEndomysial Antibody IgA Negative Negative BN Ft-Transglutaminase (tTG) IgA <2 0-3 (U/mL)BN Both these tests were negative. The other test, FImmunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 62 L 87-352 (mg/dL)BN, is not a test for celiac disease but is...

Newly diagnosed
trents replied to Martin VeganTrailRunr's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
You probably also have vitamin and mineral deficiencies because of malabsorption from the blunted villi of the small bowel after years of celiac going undiagnosed. This would be very difficult to address apart from supplements for a vegan, especially in the B vitamin range and particularly B12. -
Make that a sublingual B12 as they are absorbed much better than the swallowed kind.

Family Negative for HLA-DQ Gene
trents replied to KitCat745's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you referring to yourself as the carrier of celiac disease? When I hear the term "carrier" I think of someone who are themselves asymptomatic but can infect others. We recently had someone post on the forum who posted their genetic assay results verbatim and they had an allele variant of the HLADQ2 gene which... -
Family Negative for HLA-DQ Gene
trents replied to KitCat745's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Are you absolutely certain the couple who raised you are your biological parents? I hope you are offended by this question but we've all heard stories and may even know people who were adopted as babies and never told that, who find out in a different way. -
New here, help with test results needed
trents replied to MasieE's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
The guidelines for a pre-biopsy "gluten challenge" are 2 slices of wheat bread daily (or the gluten equivalent) for two weeks leading up the day of the scoping and the biopsy, per the Mayo Clinic. But we are rethinking all that as it appears the amount and or the length of gluten exposure may need to be greater to get consistently accurate results. -
Family Negative for HLA-DQ Gene
trents replied to KitCat745's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Welcome to the forum, KitCat745! How were you diagnosed with celiac disease? Did you have both serum antibody testing done and biopsy and did both methods produce celiac positive results? There are some other diseases (Crohns and a certain tropical parasite, some foods for some people (cow's milk protein) and some medications (NSAIDS, a certain blood... -
Welcome to the forum, dogmom94! The rash you describe sounds very much like DH (Dermatitis Herpetiformis) and celiac disease is the only known cause for it. It is a classic symptom of celiac disease but only some celiacs experience it. Why do you avoid oats? Do you get a gluten-like reaction to them? About 10% of celiacs react to gluten free oats...

My boyfriend works with wheat and other grains
trents replied to Flaura001's topic in Super Sensitive People
Welcome to the forum, Flaura001! It is likely that whenever you visit him at work you will breathe in wheat dust which gets trapped by the mucous in your airway and eventually finds its way into your gut. There is also some danger of this when he comes home with wheat dust laden clothes from work, especially if you are the one handling the laundry when... -
Peripheral neuropathy
trents replied to Andrew West's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to the forum, Andrew! Your current B-complex has plenty of B6 but I doubt too much. It would not hurt to add in a sublingual B12 as the amount of B12 in your current B-complex is quite small. I would add in 5000 IU of D3 and magnesium glycinate or citrate (not magnesium oxide). Magnesium oxide is the most common form you will find on store shelves... -
cristiana, yes. It is true that you can have reflux and not know it. It's called "silent acid reflux" I believe. Although, if it is bad enough, you will know it. Another little known fact about reflux is that it can happen even when you are upright, even though you aren't aware of it going on. I have GERD and I am careful to not to do tasks that involve leaning...

Yes, a buck 52 is a little light for a guy 5'10". But, it's not cachectic by any means.

How tall are you? 2000-2400 a day is about average for an adult. I wouldn't expect to gain weight on that amount.

If you re-read this post I think you will see an error that makes it confusing. I think you meant to say it's just "my son and me" instead of "it's just my son and daughter" unless, that is, you are referring to another daughter.

This might be helpful to you as studies show that most people who claim to be eating gluten free are really not. They are eating a lower gluten diet. Are you the only one in your house eating gluten free. Have your kids been checked for celiac disease and their father as well? A couple of recent large studies show that when the first degree relatives of those...

Most of the things on that list I gave can be found at Costco. Their Kirkland Signature and Nature Made lines of vitamins and minerals are typically gluten free (it will say so on the packaging or the bottle if it is). The magnesium glycinate I get on Amazon: "Doctor's Best" brand. Zinc is really good for strengthening the immune system. It's important to...

A multivitamin product is probably minimally addressing deficiency issues. Many of us here on the forum would have you add in a high potency B-complex, 5-10,000 IU of D3, magnesium glycinate and zinc. And maybe a sublinqual B12 to boot.
