I had cook-out too... Other than that, how about gluten-free beauty supplies? Smoothie and ice cream recipes for the dog days of summer? The art of gluten-free online shopping? Celiac celebrities? History of celiac? gluten-free in collegiate and/or work situations? Celiac-friendly cocktails (inc. the distillation process)?

First meal: good Second meal: where's the protein? That meal would have lasted me about 30 mins Next meal: where's the carbs? Throw some triscuits or other hearty cracker or something and you're good. (also, for what it's worth, eggs don't last long for me) SB bars: full of sugar, lasts me about 30 mins, if that, often work on my blood sugar the...

ARCHIVED Just Need Some Reforcement On This
penguin replied to Ashley's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I got a tattoo when I was 17 on the small of my back, swirly thing with a blue butterfly above it. It's very "I'm 17 with a cute tattoo". My mom had to sign for it, and she did so only under the condition that I never get my tounge pierced. The lady that did it used to be my boss - when I was 14 I babysat her son in the shop every day after school. I know... -

ARCHIVED Hershey's Chocolate
penguin replied to campcour's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Hershey is one of the awesome companies that will clearly list gluten in the ingredient statement. If the ingredients look safe, the product is safe. -
ARCHIVED Cosmetics-shampoos, Etc
penguin replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I posted a list of MAC products that are gluten-free earlier in this thread that someone called and got. They may not be free of all of the things you need to avoid, but many of their products are gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Alcohol Once And For All...
penguin replied to Huey Vincent's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Ditto. This has been my policy, and other than the other effects of alcohol, I haven't had a problem. The only ones that make me nervous are things like whiskey, and the ones I would drink are gluten-free anyway. Then again, I have the advantage of having an in-house chemical engineer with a vested interest in my health. Of course, his specialty is polymers... -

Just a warning: it stings for a few minutes after you put it on! It's not bad though, just spicy, and the effects are worth it Oh, and warn your husband before you kiss him! He might not enjoy that much...men aren't into the pain is beauty thing -

They have 3 different kinds, they have the regular clear one, then they have one with gold flecks and one with silver I think. The ones with flecks are venom flash. The lip venom (regular) is great, too! It's safe. I found it on here somewhere where someone called them. Either way, no reaction -

ARCHIVED Let The Tests Begin: What To Ask For Specifically
penguin replied to SuperBeck's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
It does depend on the allergist. They can order bloodwork just like any other doctor, including a celiac panel. It just depends on whether or not the allergist thinks your nuts It also depends on whether or not your allergist even deals in food allergies - many allergists don't, they only deal with environmental "here's a zyrtec, where's my check"... -

I love love love MAC!!! Depending on where you are, there may be either a mac store (rare) or a MAC counter in a dept store like dillards, foley's, etc. Otherwise you can order online. Their products are fabulous and they do a lot of good for the community. It's also VERY cool. Their VIVA GLAM line sale price goes 100% to local AIDS research (local to where... -
ARCHIVED Almost Had To Go To The Hospital
penguin replied to Celia the Celiac's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It depends on what they're testing, and what time of day you go, what you've eaten, etc. If they're doing a full panel with glucose levels, then it will show what your blood glucose was at the time of testing. I doubt that would show hypoglycemia, though. The medical test for that is a glucose tolerance test, and it involves drinking syrup and then waiting... -
I get hiccups all the time. Usually, when I start getting a lot of hiccuping episodes close together it means that I'm going to get stomach muscle spasms. These are extraordinarily painful so hiccups worry me... Since I still don't know what causes the spasms (I get them stressed, not stressed, acidic food or no acidic food, gluten or not) so I don...

penguin replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I'd believe it! Benzene smells sweet, kind of like artificial banana flavoring. That's why they added it as a fragrance to things. Don't ask me when or where I smelled benzene...probably in one of DH's labs... Just remember not to directly sniff your bananas and avocados. Waft, people, WAFT!! -
ARCHIVED Sometimes I Wonder If I Don't Have Celiac Disease
penguin replied to shai76's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Food allergies are bad news and can get worse with each exposure. Your athsma attacks could turn into anaphalaxis. Not to scare you, it's just not something I'd screw around with. It doesn't matter if you have celiac, does it? If your food allergies ever get better (and you should only test under the supervision of a doctor), then worry about celiacs... -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
penguin replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I make a concerted effort Bananas are rubber and carcinogenic! Milkshake, anyone? Benzene is a carcinogen, a material known to cause cancer. But seriously, the amount naturally occurring in bananas is way way way under any amount that would make a difference. Before they knew any better, people used to put it in toothpaste... -

penguin replied to kaciemarie's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
You'd think they could use chicory inulin or something instead if they wanted a highly modified, high fiber starch. Chicory is definitely gluten-free. -
ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
penguin replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Fun fact: Bananas also contain up to 20 micrograms of benzene! No worries, you'd have to eat A LOT of bananas for it to do any harm. I wouldn't eat a banana while smoking a cigarette though -

penguin replied to Ksmith's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That is the longest non-readable CYA statement I've seen to date! That's a full on ramble! Maltodextrin looks suspicious but it's not. In North America, maltodextrin is made from corn. -

Hit the options tab at the top of the topic (It's in the upper righthand corner inside the blue bar) and change it to standard. Sometimes it switches for no reason.
