ARCHIVED Cellulites-has Anyone Had It? Dx Fri Am After High Fevers
penguin replied to Judyin Philly's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
AMEN!!! The easiest way to do the soup thing is to get bone-in chicken breasts so you get extra stocky stock, just pull out the icky bits after it's done. My mom practically gave us the Jewish Penicillin intravenously when we were sick... A hot toddy might not be bad for you either, a little whiskey, tea, lemon, and honey might make you feel a bit better... -

Eek! CVID is common variable immune deficiency, right? Sorry for the blunt language, but that sucks! That means you get all the fun blood plasma product medications, right? IVIG? Good thing students need money so badly that they'll sell their bodily fluids All I can say is that I felt better for a week or so after starting, and then began to feel like... -
ARCHIVED Past The 3 Week Mark gluten-free...

How were you diagnosed and how long were you sick? -
The incredibly scientific cosmo article I was referring to earlier (it was peer reviewed, I'm sure ) also said that what the girl ate determined what she would taste like. Just a thought. About women though, lets face it, we produce a heckuvalot less fluids then men do. In the off, and I mean VERY off chance gluten can get through, it would me a minute...

I tried googling it but didn't find anything...any biochemical engineers out there? I know I read in cosmo once (very scientific ) that what a man eats affects the flavor of the...stuff. So maybe gluten can get in?

ARCHIVED Emotional Impact Of celiac disease
penguin replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Another completely unsubstantiated thought of mine: if you can't absorb nutrients, wouldn't you have trouble making serotonin to combat depression and anxiety? Makes sense to me. I get flat-out tantrums when I'm eating gluten. Yesterday for example - my jeans were tight (I've gained 10 lbs) and I had a tantrum. I couldn't stop crying for half an hour... -
I can't seem to tolerate vitamins and they generally make me sick, gluten-free or not. I was taking the kids gummy vites for a while but they upset my stomach too. That's just a point of information, I don't have a solution. I just don't take vitamins...

That sucks! I've been known to share the banana puffs with my neice (in the picture), pre gluten-free of course I've seen these dehydrated fruits in whole paycheck that are styrofoamy like the gerber puffs. They're really expensive, but they're just fruit. I can't remember the brand though, it's in the produce section. They have strawberries, blueberries... -

Eep! We can hope it goes over her head... -
I made it seem like my doctor's idea. I went in and said, "I wonder if I have stomach problems because I have problems with certain foods." My doc said, "well, I doubt you have any food allergies, but I'll run a celiac panel and we'll see about that." Reverse psychology is an awesome thing

ARCHIVED For Those With Gluten Tolerant & Intolerant Family Members
penguin replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
When I'm not in the throes of a gluten challenge, my house is 98% gluten-free. I cook nothing with gluten in it, and DH is only allowed prepackaged gluten such as kraft mac and cheese (that he cooks in a seperate pot with seperate utensils), crackers, and cereal. When I have kids, I have no intention of having them eat gluten before they are beyond an... -
ARCHIVED My First Restaurant Experience
penguin replied to queenofhearts's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Damn the cookie! I would have sent it back and gotten one without the cookie in the middle. Creme brulee is generally gluten-free because good creme brulee should only have four ingredients: Cream Vanilla bean Sugar Egg Since they have to caramelize the top at the last minute (or else the caramel gets soggy), it should be easy to get it without... -
My first month gluten-free my period was 10 days late. Being the super hypochondriac I am, I called the gyno and they did a blood pregnancy test. When that came back negative, they told me to call back if I didn't have one for three months and they would make me have one with hormones. I would definitely reccommend calling your doctor about it.

Sounds gross, but works: Take bite, take drink, then chew It's like making baby food in your mouth But it does the job of making stuff soft enough to chew.

Good call, Guhlia! I remember that I tolerated it by not letting near my teeth, and shielding my teeth from the stuff with my lips! I had more trouble with hot stuff than cold...

You know, I had seen that recipe and it looks good. What's a good replacement for the pecan flour? I'm allergic to them. Would almond flour work? -
OK, sorry to post in the teen section...but... I remember my days of braces very well! They will probably hurt you for a few days to a week, and then for a few days each time they're tightened. It sucks badly! Hang on, are you Carla's daughter? Welcome! Anyway, back to the braces. Basically, things like soup, mashed potatoes, yogurt, applesauce,...

ARCHIVED Amount Of Gluten You Eat...
penguin replied to JerryK's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I stopped eating pasta a long time ago because I threw up too many times after it. I always attributed it to the tomatoes in the sauce, even if it was something like vodka sauce. Now (when I'm gluten-free, anyway) I don't get so much as a burp from tinkyada pasta and nice and acidic tomato sauce. Go figure. I also didn't know it wasn't normal to feel... -
