ARCHIVED Those Who Don't Get Big Reactions...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Saz's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Look up rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and lupus-- serious, painful, and debilitating autoimmune diseases that are so common to people on this board that it's obvious that there's a connection with celiac. If eliminating gluten from my diet lessens my chances of developing any of these, that makes it pretty darn easy. And I didn't even mention lymphoma... -
ARCHIVED How Much Juice Does Your Toddler Drink?
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A friend of mine has a 2-year-old who shows classic signs of celiac: fussy, watery bms, little to no weight gain, off the bottom of the charts for height, etc. Of course, I've been suggesting a gluten-free diet. But she is looking into other food issues, and she may be on to something. First, she took him off soy, and noticed some immediate... -

ARCHIVED Went To Gi Today. . He Said It Isn't Celiac
Fiddle-Faddle replied to ptkds's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Here is another approach (not necessarily any better than the one above, just different): try the gluten-free diet and see if the diarrhea goes away. If it does, you can try reintroducing gluten in a month or so. If the diarrhea comes back, that certainly points to a problem with gluten. Mommida is right in that the "gold standard" of diagnosis is the... -
Juices set me off. Not just obvious ones, like citrus, but any juice, I think because they all have vitamin c added--which is ACID. Also caffeine, and tomato sauce.

ARCHIVED Chiropractor Questions
Fiddle-Faddle replied to bklyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Absolutely nothing wrong with being on a plan with a chiropractor you like and trust. The problem is, many chiropractors will demand that you sign a contract to be on a plan before you've had your first appointment! And, as somebody said already, everybody is different. Soome people need to be seen twice weekly or three times, others are fine with once... -
ARCHIVED Passover Flours
Fiddle-Faddle replied to clbevilacqua's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Passover flours are flours made from ground-up matzoh, which, unfortunately for us, does usually contain wheat. Usually, matzoh is made from roasted wheat and water, which are not permitted to sit as a dough for longer than 18 minutes (apparently, at that point, it begins to rise even without baking powder or yeats or baking soda). It is then baked... -
ARCHIVED Matzo Meal
Fiddle-Faddle replied to hannahsue01's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
It's written in a very confusing way. Read again, but see the bolded words: Five grains are forbidden for use during Passover in any processed form but dry-roasting and as matzoh: wheat, barley, spelt, rye, and either oats (according to Rashi) or two-rowed barley (according to Rambam's interpretation of Mishnah Kilayim 1:1; Yerushalmi Challah 1:1). (Wheat... -

Holy cow--just parachuted in here after not being able to even try to keep up with this thread for a few weeks now. Something told me I should peek in and see what's going on with you, Rachel. Wow. I'm glad you're geting some answers, and that those answers point to a light at the end of the tunnel. I hope your appointment goes well tomorrow--keep... -
Hoo boy, lots of us suffer from gerd! As you know from the other thread, I've been on Nexium for a year. Before that it was Prilosec, before that Zantac, before that, tooo many Tums to count! Many celiacs seem to have their gerd resolve after being gluten-free for a while, but I've been gluten-free since January, and I'm very disappointed that I can't seem...

ARCHIVED Chiropractor Questions
Fiddle-Faddle replied to bklyn's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There are both geniuses and quacks in the chiropractic field--just like conventional medicine. Seeral years ago, I fell down a flight of stairs, cracked my tailbone, and knocked2 vertebrae out of place. Had been to one chiro years before that, and thought he was a total quack. Didn't want to go to another one, but my doctor actually insisted--and I'm... -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to Terch's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nexium is not gluten-free??????? Holy cow, I've been on it for a year now. Okay--I just found this: Open Original Shared Link According to this, Nexium is gluten-free. How do we know what to believe? Any possiblity your pharmacist is looking for a way to charge extra? Or is Purplepill.com lying? (Both seem equally possible, don... -

ARCHIVED Excedrin Migraine Problems
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Kirian's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Worrisome thought: do all over-the-counter meds cause rebound symptoms? Cold meds do, right? I was just wondering if Zantac/Prilosec/Nexxium do, too. Anybody know? -
ARCHIVED Thought I Was A Newbie...maybe Not?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to indigo1213's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
4 weeks til you get results from the endoscopy? Wow. That must feel like forever. Sorry you're not feeling better--I hope you get answers soon from someone somewhere! Sorry I couldn't be of any help. A couple of people on this board have been intolerant to rice and certain vegies, of all things. If you can find Ursula, she is a goldmine of information... -

ARCHIVED Thought I Was A Newbie...maybe Not?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to indigo1213's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Terch: It's easy for me to stay on the gluten-free diet. I had relatively mild symptoms before going on it--but I didn't realize I had them til the symptoms went away, and boy, was that great! Nothing like feeling well to add incentive.... Are you sure you've eliminated "hidden" gluten, such as what might be in your soy sauce, light ice cream, salad... -

ARCHIVED Manicotti Or Jumbo Shells
Fiddle-Faddle replied to IsAMom's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I make something similar in flavor, but without the difficulty of rolling: I mix the meat sauce with gluten-free elbows (Tinkyada) and then layer it in a 9x13 pan with a 15-oz container of ricotta mixed with 1/2 cup parmesan, 2 eggs, pepper, and parsley (the parmesan is so salty, I skip the salt). Top with mozzarella and parmesan and bake! Same flavor... -
ARCHIVED Convenience And The gluten-free Diet
Fiddle-Faddle replied to elfkin's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Mac and cheese from scratch takes about 2 minutes longer than the boxed kind with the powdered cheese mix, and is SO much better. All you need is: 1 pack of Tinyada gluten-free elbows 8 oz shredded sharp cheddar cheese A little bit of grated onion , or dried minced onion (only one TBLSPN if using dired, it's pretty strong) 2 cups of milk 3 TBLSPN... -
