ARCHIVED Gluten Challenge Update
Fiddle-Faddle replied to penguin's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I take CHILDREN'S Benadryl. The smaller dose seems to work just as well as the grown-up dose, and it doesn't make me nearly as sleepy. This is a good trick with other over-the-counter meds, too--I don't know if hyper immune systems like ours have anything to do with this, or if this would work for everybody (let's blame the pharm industry!). -
Can you eat almonds? I love almond milk, which is made by Blue Diamond and carried by some of the larger grocery stores. I actually prefer it to regular milk (which so far I'm not having problems with)! There is also a potato-based milk substitute that a lot of people really like, called Vance's Dari-Free. That one can be much less expensive as you buy...

ARCHIVED Social Behavior -add, Aspergers Etc.
Fiddle-Faddle replied to gfp's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I dated a control freak once, and only for two months. Luckily, one of my best friends said to me, "What would you be telling ME if I dated a jerk like that?" and I got out. Could someone please answer me this: why do so many Aspies end up with control freaks? Or is it just women who end up with control freaks? Is it my imagination, or have an awful... -

Ursula, I'm so shocked and angry at your husband, I don't know what to say. I realize now that, even though you have done everything possible to make things work, HE has doomed your marriage from the beginning. I apologize for my suggestions, which might have worked with someone other than a controlling monster, but are obviously inane suggestions... -

Which explains why my husband, who is allergic to nuts, sometimes reacts to take-out pizza!! This is potentially extremely dangerous to people with severe nut allergies. -

Ursula, I agree with gfp! I wrote a whole big post to you and somehow deleted the entire thing accidentally (arrghh!), so I'm starting over today. What I was thinking yesterday was, what if, instead of being on the computer all day, you were on the telephone chatting to your girlfriends? (I know that's something ou would NEVER do--just bear with me for... -
I'm mostly just buying gluten-free flours and making everything from scratch (except cereal, whose priciness I also resent). I just hate to spend 15 bucks on cards when I hardly ever go out to eat anyway--with 3 kids, it adds up quickly!).

Oh, poop. I didn't realize you couldn't eat corn. Sorry, Rachel. I wonder if anybody's ever made millet tortillas.... -
ARCHIVED Story Of My Diagnosis
Fiddle-Faddle replied to hatchingPhoenix's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome aboard, Hatching Phoenix! Great story. Lucky you to get diagnosed so quickly (and sounds like you have decent medical care)! I'm curious about your name--are you a Phoenix fan? Or a Harry Potter fan? -
Am I just being hypersensitive here or is it a little insulting that we have to PAY for these cards? Don't we already pay enough for gluten-free everything? Why do so many people have to make money off of our problems? (I don't include Annalise Roberts in that category--I consider her a brilliant artist.) Er.. I'll shut up now.

Get cooking, girlfirend!!!!! Ask him over for dinner, and make those burritos (with corn tortillas) and guacamole, and get gluten-free corn chips like Fritos Scoops! Or make your own buns (I've come across a bunch of recipes, tried one which was not bad, haven't tried Annalise's yet, but I hear her submarine bread is great), and make Big Macs AND Quarter... -
Is there a documented connection with hyperemesis and undiagnosed celiac? I'm starting to get the idea that there must be a link from some of the recent posts. I had terrible hyperemesis for the entire pregnancy with all three of my pregnancies (gee, now I understand why I couldn't keep the crackers down!), but nobocy even mentioned the possibility of celiac...

Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I didn't say I believe that it's good for us! Where did you get that idea? I just think it's ridiculous to say "studies show that..." and not name those studies! It makes it look less than truthful. Thank you for posting the links! -

I don't entirely agree with this statement, Ursula. This is like saying that if someone is severely nearsighted, they don't need glasses, they are just different. The reason Asperger's is considered a disorder is that Aspies are usually lacking some abilities that the so-called "neurotypicals" have; moreover, these are the abilities that tend to at least... -

ARCHIVED Another Annalise Roberts' Recipe Success

THEY TASTE LIKE REALLY GOOD CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES. And they are easy. If you want the recipe, go buy the book. Trust me, it's worth it! -
ARCHIVED What Do These Results Mean?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mskelly's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
My results were almost identical to your son's. The dermatologist insisted that the results meant that I do not have celiac. The endocrinologist insisted that it meant that I have celiac. The rheumatologist said to stay off gluten and took 10 tubes of blood--I'm still waiting for the results. That wasn't very helpful to you, was it? -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to a topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
If you have pants or skirts with a metal snap "button" at the front, you may have a contact dermatitis (basically a skin allergy) going on as a rseult of being allergic to the metal (many of us here are allergic to metal). When this happens to me, it does not go away, even when I don't put the offending clothing back on. Sometimes it even continues to get...
