  1. Google "polio and SV-40" and you'll see that the polio vaccine did in fact cause cancer. Nobody's arguing that it didn't happen--they've only hushed it up. Now, I'm all for vaccinating against deadly diseases like polio--but I would have liked to have known ALL the facts, not had them hidden from me. As far as the measles vaccine is concerned: my...
  2. Bloody Hell, SurreyGirl, that makes a terrifyingly large amount of sense. As Jnkmnky said, though, what is the cure?
  3. I'm waiting with bated breath to see what happens, and what you think about it! I've been gluten-free since January, and was planning on a gluten challenge sometime this month (maybe a piece of matzoh?!). I had lunch at Ikea, and had part of a slice of cheesecake (cutting off the crust, but I'm pretty sure some crumbs got in)--and had diarrhea starting...
  4. Wine? There's gluten in wine nowadays?
  5. I know if you're a working mom, you're already exhausted, even without having to deal with celiac issues! So I apologize that my suggestion is going to mean even more time on your part. can you ask teh school if you can supply all the play dough and finger paint? Maybe thaey can give you something toward the cost of it. Then you can make everybody's...
  6. The times I've always been aware of my heart beating (besides for exercise, of course) is when I have too much thyroid in my system or when I skip lunch by mistake.
  7. Hang in there, Sawyer, and see if you can take steps to head off food difficulties before you might face them. If your mom makes pizza, bring or buy some corn tortillas and ask her if you can help with the cooking. Then simply top some of the tortillas with sauce, cheese, and toppings and you're set to go (you might have to bring a small can of plain tomato...
  8. Wow, they're REALLY making a profit on it, aren't they? What a shame. Lonewolf, where do you purchase 25-lb sacks of brown rice flour and potato and tapioca flours in bulk, and how do you store them when you get them home? Thanks!
  9. If your baby is only 5 months old, I would hold off on solids for a few months yet. My kids didn't start solids until 8 months old, and they are not picky about what foods they eat. Do you know any nursing moms who might be able to donate some breast millk? No matter what the formula manufacturer's claim, there is nothing easier to digest than breast...
  10. Jillian, you're a genius! I don't know why I didn't think of rice crackers. I love rice crackers, especially the ones in the Asian grocery stores. You saved my Passover! I was all ready to screw up 3 months of being gluten-free, just for matzoh.
  11. Count me in--I've had Hashimoto's for about 20 years, and since going gluten-free in January, I now feel hyperthyroid, but can't get my endocrinologist to call back with my bloodtest results--apparently, her nurse-practitioner-assistant just had a baby, and thewhole office is in turmoil with one less person.
  12. What is DGL??
  13. Radman, can you tell us more about this surgery? How new is it? What are the risks? You make a frighteningly good case for it--I've been on proton pump inhibtors for a decade now, but even after a couple of gluten-free months, I can't seem to get off them (I'm on Nexium and tried to switch back to Zantac, but it didn't work nearly as well.)
  14. My very favorite main dish salad salad: Mixed baby greens shredded carrots chopped red pepper chopped green onions avocado chunks canned or frozen corn dried cranberries (I like the cherry--flavored ones best) or sliced fresh strawberries toasted pecans goat cheese crumbles (are you allergic to all dairy or just cow dairy?) raspberry...
  15. If pizza is such a big deal for you (and if it is, it is!), can you keep n Emergency Pizza kit at work? Maybe a couple of corn tortillas or a couple of slices of frozen Kinnikinnick white sandwich bread, a small can of tomato sauce, some shredded mozzarella or sliced provolone (the circles fit perfectly on the corn tortillas), and some dried Italian Seasoning...
  16. Thanks, hadn't heard of that one. Unfortunately, she moved away after kindergarten.
  17. Don't worry, Mamaw, you don't sound angry, you sound perfectly reasonable. I don'tknow much about chelation; my husband does, as he is a research chemist. Perhaps the media reported inaccurately. If they did, your friend could and should sue them. But if their report was accurate, my husband believes that your friend did the chelation in an unnecessarily...
  18. I used to have long lashes until I developed Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, and I lost a lot of hair. My daughter has amazing lashes, though. I wonder....
  19. I just tried the GLuten-Free pantry's brown rice flour pancakes, and it was so good, my children scarfed it down like you wouldn't believe--and so did I! (I did alter the recipe a bit--I used buttermillk instead of plain milk, and added chocolate chips for the kids--but it was easily as good as my scratch recipe, maybe even better! But so darned expensive...
  20. Hi, Franceen, I don't know if my experience will be any help to you. I self-diagnosed after an awful itchy burny oozing blistering skin rash on both arms. My doctor disagreed with me, and gave me a 10-day course of prednisone, which coincided with my going really gluten-free AND also being careful of skin lotions, detergent, soap , shampoo etc. Before...
  21. I was told by a dermatologist nearly 20 years ago that the genetic markers for nickel allergy, asthma, and arthritis were all on the same chromasome. Anyone want to guess where the genetic marker for celiac is?
  22. As far as I can tell, just the old name. I tried my maiden name, and couldn't find anything newer than my high school address!!! (And I didn't get married til years later!)
  23. If coriander helps, does that mean the fresh herb (as in cilantro), or the dried seed, or doesn't it matter? Also, here in Pennsylvania, there was a tragedy with a 7-year-old boy (from London, actually, of Indian parentage, I think?) undergoing chelation who died becasue the doctor adminstering it really screwed up. I remember my husband (who is a chemist...
  24. I didn't realize how serious the brain fog (mentioned by many of you) thing was until some of you described in detail how severe it is. When I read some of your posts, I googled ceilac and Alzheimer's, and found so many links, it's scary. I apologize to those of you who think this is old news--I never made the connection before (must be brain fog). Here...
  25. I had GERD from the age of 15 on. Before my first pregnancy, I went off meds, and did just fine heartburn-wise, but had such severe nausea and vomiting, it caused all sorts of serios problems. I did NOT want to take medication, but not taking it, I think, m ade more problems. My second and third pregnancies were also nausea and vomiting-filled from...
