  1. I gotta agree with gfp here--he as absolutely right. The current definition of celiac IS based on villi damage--but if you are gluten intolerant (as proven in your case by bloodwork AND dietary response) and continue to eat gluten, that WILL result in villi damage. Endoscopies DO carry risks, and the end result for you is the same whether or not you...
  2. Thanks for the posting!
  3. The other thing that helped my youngest was exercise (seriously!). My first two were boys and ran around like cranzy, and didn't have problems. She was content to sit for hours playing with toys, but not moving off her bottom. Things did improve a lot after I started taking her to the playground twice a day and having her run around (not just sit on the...
  4. My youngest was constipated when starting solids as well, but eliminating rice, wheat, and potatoes, and adding plenty of "stone fruits" did the trick. I did give her oatmeal, but that was before I had any problems with gluten.
  5. Shocking. May I suggest that you either print out some of celiac.com or get a copy of Peter Green's book on celiac to give to them? Unfortunately, they're just not gonna learn until we teach them...(sigh) BTW, I hope you feel better soon. You do know you have to keep eating gluten for the tests to be accurate?
  6. In that case, check this out:
  7. Same with me--I was majorly stressed when I had shingles, but otherwise healthy. What may have also contributed, in my case, was thimerosal-preserved inoculations I received 5 weeks before coming down with the shingles, but I'll probably never know for sure. Shingles are the pits, aren't they? Hang in there, eat lots of sweet red peppers (if you...
  8. I don't get it. Cats are carnivores--their bodies were made to eat meat and fish. Why would they "need" supplements to what would be natural for them to eat in the wild? (I'm a bit nervous because I just started giving my diabetic cat canned tuna and salmon in addition to dry food. Eek! Maybe I should stop?? But he seems to be doing a lot better on...
  9. answering my own question.... Open Original Shared Link According to wikipedia, research shows that adding psyllium to food gives better results than taking psyllium supplements--but it doesn't say where to find psyllium that you can add to food.
  10. I feel really dumb for asking this, but what IS psyllium????
  11. Hi, Seth! Welcome aboard! I just wanted to chime in and say that, first of all, I don't get violent reactions, either, but I am gluten-free because the risk of other autoimmune disorders increases exponentially with continued gluten consumption. It's not worth the risk. And secondly, if ONE part of her blood test came back positive for gluten/celiac...
  12. Ooh, it sounds like a spell you'd learn at Hogwarts!!!! (or maybe Durmstrang...)
  13. Yep. Cheating is cheating, no matter how you want to paint it. Or how about "self-poisoning?"
  14. My goodness, Walter, you've been through just about everything except being swallowed by a whale! The elimination diet is when you eliminate all common causes of stomach distress from your diet, which pretty much leaves you with plain broiled chicken or fish (NO seasonings except maybe salt), chicken broth, broiled plain hamburger (no ketchup yet!), white...
  15. YOU ARE NOT A BAD MOM!!!!!!!
  16. Thanks! I was also thinking--at age 2, he might need lots of outside, run-around, playground-type time (say, an hour every morning). THat can be a total sanity saver for you--he can blow off steam, and theyn he'll take a nice nap for you after lunch! I was also thinking that just because they aren't giving him speech therapy doesn't mean you can...
  17. Great advice from Carla! That woman has EXPERIENCE (and wisdom)!!! I just wanted to add that there are two things you may need to do, and they are totally at odds with each other. 1) You may need to scream your head off with frustration! Or at least, find an outlet or safe place to vent, let off steam, punch pillows, run up and down the stairs, etc...
  18. I had great results with the submarine sandwich bread, too. I used the French bread pans she suggested, and I spray them with Pam and then dust them with corn meal (not corn starch). I also preheat my oven for 2 minutes, turn it off, and let the bread rise in the oven (in the french bread pan put on top of a cookie sheet to catch drips). I heat...
  19. I think deliberately "testing" someone, as you call it, is rather like deliberately touching someone who very clearly states that they do NOT want to be touched. Or maybe the situation where She says, "No," and He thinks that "No," doesn't mean "No?" This really goes way beyond lack of respect and steps into Violation territory.
  20. I agree. I can't think of a better way to put it or anything else to add.
  21. I hope you are feeling better today--so sorry you were feeling so lousy yesterday. Any possibility that you had a stomach virus on top of all the other problems? Hang in there.
  22. I've always liked plain water with a slice of lemon or lime; after being used to that, the new flavored waters taste horribly chemical to me. Love the idea of cucumber and orange--I'll have to try that! Thanks for posting the idea, Mango!
  23. I'm glad you posted this, as this may be yet one more thing we all (we celiacs) need to worry about (like we really needed something else???!?!!). However, I'm not yet convinced that the medical community has shown that we are at risk for hyposplenia AFTER having gone gluten-free. And unfortunately, my doctor is still recommending flu shots for everyone...
