ARCHIVED Food For Life Millet Bread
Fiddle-Faddle replied to disneyfan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Wow, that looks just like Country White Bread! I'd love it if you could post your tips here--perhaps those tips would apply to all gluten-free bread baking? -
I've never heard of it. Is it a frozen pizza you buy at a grocery store? Is it a restaurant chain? Do you have a link?

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Gee, I'm sorry you hate the mousy reddish-brown! (It just happens to be my natural hair-color...) I used to hate my hair color, too, but as I've gotten older (and hopefully wiser), my thoughts have changed. Now, what I really appreciate is how beautiful natural, healthy, shiny hair of any color can look, and when I see dyed hair, I can ALWAYS tell it... -
ARCHIVED Magazine's Article Concerning Gluten

Sorry I misunderstood you. I have certainly seen my share of high school girls (and grown women colleagues) complain to me how fat they are when they weigh 20 pounds less than I do, but honestly, I've never seen anyone really and truly on a diet (weight loss, gluten, diabetic, or otherwise) "brag" about cheating! -

NoGluGirl, I was just wondering--if your body reacts to gluten and casein like it's a poison, and tries to get rid of it as quickly as possible (resulting in upchucking),--is it possible that that might actually be the best thing for your body? Maybe taking promethazine and turning off the body's barf response keeps the toxin in your body far longer and... -
ARCHIVED Does Any1 Else Miss Gluten Foods!?

Walmart sells Van's frozen wheat-free, gluten-free waffles, and they taste great with butter and real maple syrup (you can get those at Wlmart, too)! -

I'm sorry it's not going better (yet)--sounds like you could use some IV fluids, too! -

Hi, NoGluGirl I think your features are lovely! But I did wonder if you dyed your hair, as it does look very unnatural (it fights with your skin tone). Have you considered dyeing it as close to your natural shade as possible, and then letting it grow back in its naural color? With all your chemical sensitivities, you might want to avoid hair dye... -

Gee, all this time, I've been assuming that people who posted "cheat brags" were doing so in order to ask for strength, reassurance, help, etc.... Seriously--are we really at the point where we can afford to judge other people's posts when they are at their weakest???? -
ARCHIVED Magazine's Article Concerning Gluten
Fiddle-Faddle replied to JodiC's topic in Publications & Publicity
I'm sorry, Jodi, but while I agree with you that this is trivialized by the sensationalism and emphasis on weight loss, their info isn't THAT inaccurate. Dietary response is probably the best method of diagnosis. Biopsy is hit or miss at best, unless you do have an advanced case of celiac. Bloodwork doesn't catch all of those who are gluten-intolerant;... -
ARCHIVED Vets Or Animal Techs I Need Your Help
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Felidae's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Poor kitty! I hope he's doing better. I didn't know cats could be allergic to chicken. Can he drink beef broth? I bet the tuna juice is good for him, too... I'm sure he knows how much you love him and how much you are doing for him. -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Even in literature, one always reads, "her eyes burned with tears," and "tears stung her eyes," etc. Are there any other possibilities, such as the pain receptors/nerves being more sensitive? I remember when I first starting wearing contact lenses at age 16, how difficult it was because my eyes were so sensitive, the lens solution stung my eyes horribly... -
ARCHIVED Vets Or Animal Techs I Need Your Help
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Felidae's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I subQed my cat for several months before he finally died (he was 17 and had failing kidneys). The vet tech taught me to scrunch up the skin at the back of the neck or between the shoulder blades, and slip the needle in there and just hold it there. I would get on all fours and sort of straddle the kitty while doing this. After the first day, he actually... -

I've never been able to wear eye makeup, but it's not a problem for me. I just think how much time and money I'm saving by not buying it! Besides, I have a theory that makeup causes wrinkles. Think about it: you're rubbing chemicals into your most wrinkle-prone skin (near the eyes), and then, 16 hours later, you're using MORE chemicals to rub the... -
According to this: Open Original Shared Link, he will be on the Rachael Ray show on Thursday, talking about his childhood weight problem (he weighed 185 whenhe was only 13!) and who does the cooking on the campaign trail. Do you think his wheat allergy will be mentioned???? Should we all email in to Rachael Ray telling her that we think he might have...

ARCHIVED Brown Rice Flour Vs White Rice Flour
Fiddle-Faddle replied to lcbannon's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
No, the rice flour at the Asian food stores is in fact finely ground white rice flour. They also sell sweet rice flour, but it is clearly labeled as either sweet rice flour or glutinous rice flour. There is a difference in baking results between the brown and white, just like whole wheat and "white" flours. Since that finely ground brown rice flour... -

NoGluGirl, if you had any vaccines (ever!), nearly all of them (except for the MMR) contained mercury in the preservative thimerosal (which is 49.6% mercury) until the last couple of years. Also, some contact lens solutions and eye drops contained thimerosal until the mid-90's, when it was banned in all over-the-counter products (but was continued to be... -

ARCHIVED Keeping Home Made Bread Fresh?

I have good luck double-wrapping: I wrap very tightly in plastic wrap, then put in a ziploc bag and suck the air out with a straw. -
ARCHIVED Can I Ignore My Celiac?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mayray's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
The easiest to start with is Roben Ryberg's buttermilk bread (can you have milk products??), which is in her book, The GLuten-Free Kitchen. If you don't have it, PM me, and I'll PM it to you (can't post the recipe here without violating copyright, as I don't haver her permission). You will need something called Xanthan Gum. It is expensive (usually around... -
ARCHIVED Can I Ignore My Celiac?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mayray's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I don't know what state you are in, but I would suggest that it is well worth a few hours' drive to get to a city that has an Asian food store. There you can buy white rice flour, sweet rice flour (also called glutinous rice flour, don't be fooled by the name, it has NO gluten), corn starch, tapioca starch, and potato starch for 69 cents a pound. The health... -
ARCHIVED Can I Ignore My Celiac?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mayray's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
You get to choose the world--and friends--that you live in, to a great extent. If your friends are so brainless or care so little that they forget that you have a major food intolerance, either get new friends, or communicate better with the ones you've got. By all means, go out with your friends--and drink something other than beer. The purpose is... -
ARCHIVED Shingles (zoster) And The Immune System
Fiddle-Faddle replied to UR Groovy's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
I noticed that, too! In my case, the differences were that DH (on me, at least) was on both arms, and perfectly symmetrical, and there was no nerve inflammation or nerve pain. The shingles were only on one arm (going from my spine all the way to my hand, terrible place for a violinist), and the nerve pain was unbearable. And I had the post-herpetic... -
ARCHIVED Luna Bars
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Samanthasmomma's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I looked at a package of ZonePerfect bars, and I swear I couldn't find any gluten in them, no malt, no oats, no wheat starch...could it be true? -
ARCHIVED Can I Ignore My Celiac?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mayray's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I disagree, O Optimistic One!!!! I have not yet found a food that I crave that I haven't been able to make gluten-free that tastes just as good as the gluteny original (and in some cases, better!). Now, admittedly, I am not a pierogy popper, so I can't help you there, unless you want to make a sort of pierogy lasagna. Come to think of it, that might...
