I was actually trying to make peanut butter cookies, but I was running out of time, so I dumped the batter into a greased 9 x 13 pan and baked them for 25 minutes at 350, and they were SO GOOD!!!!! And it's the same old peanut butter cookie batter we all use: 2 cups peanut butter 2 cups sugar 4 eggs 2 teaspoons vanilla a couple of glugs of molasses...

ARCHIVED Only Symmetrical Rash?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mayray's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I'm so sorry! I'm rushing so much, I'm short-handing too much. DH is short for dermatitis herpetiformis, which is a symmetrical, blistering, terribly itchy-burny rash associated with celiac. Not all celiacs get DH, but ALL people with DH have celiac, even if they have no noticeable intestinal symptoms. Interestingly, many people with DH who do not notice... -
ARCHIVED Pneumococcal Vaccine....have You Gotten Yours Yet?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mamabear's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Hmmm. Isn't sickle cell a chromosomal abnormality, primarily associated with those of African heritage? And I googled "celiac and spleen" and nothing concrete came up. Only one site mentioned that celiacs might have a smaller spleen (the hyposplenia you mention), but wouldn't our spleens be working just fine if we are gluten-free? I'm not trying to... -
ARCHIVED Only Symmetrical Rash?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to mayray's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I had something similar, that I now assume was DH. It did respond to prednisone and Benadryl--but at the same time, I googled "thyroid rash photos" (since I have had autoimmune thyroid disease for 20 years, I assumed it had something to do with my thyroid), found photos that looked an awful lot like my amazingly symmetrical rash, and found the link with... -
ARCHIVED Prayer Request

Glad to hear you are better; I was really worried about you. Have you talked with Rachel--24 about thyroid stuff? She had the RAI, I think. -
ARCHIVED Northern Illinois?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to pnltbox27's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Oh, we had it here, too! We get all your weather, minus 5 degrees or so, and sometimes with a little lake effect precipitationfrom Lake Erie, held in by the Allegheny mountains, so it's nearly always cloudy. And we have major hills here, which really screws everything up! -

Haven't got a clue, but just wanted to say "hi!" I'm in Pittsburgh now, but grew up in Glencoe. Man, I miss Lake Michigan!!!! -
ARCHIVED This Sound Reasonable?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Those two things kind of jumped out at me. It is entirely possible that this is normal 3-year-old-boy stuff. The only reason I'm seeing a possible red flag here is because of my own experience, and we have to remember that everyone is different, and just because something signified an issue for one of my kids doesn't necessarily mean that it's any kind... -
ARCHIVED This Sound Reasonable?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to VydorScope's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Am I misunderstanding you, or are you picking up on a possible developmental issue here? I don't think you as a parent worry too much. You are a very intelligent guy, an involved and caring parent, and you and your little one have been through more stuff than most MD's can imagine, let alone might have been through themselves. Why dont you try to categorize... -

That's so funny--I just heard on the radio today a little history snippet about the first Big Mac, and I started craving one! Your sauce recipe looks very similar to a copycat one I had years ago, and it was really, really, good as I remember it. Enjoy!

ARCHIVED New Job -- Being Invited To Lunch
Fiddle-Faddle replied to eleep's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I would call each restaurant and find out what (if any) gluten-free options they have, and then get back to your department, saying something positive like, "Wow, this sounds like fun! BTW, I have a major food allergy, and these are the restaurants (hopefully there'll be at least one!) where I can safely eat. Here are some suggestions on some other restaurants... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Wow, that was quick! And, wow, you sure have been through a lot. Um, if you are drinking Lactaid, you are NOT on a dairy-free diet! Now, if you are lactose-intolerant, Lactaid is probably just fine, but if it's the casein that is bothering you, then Lactaid has just as much casein as regular milk, and will cause you grief. At any rate, Lactaid is dairy... -
ARCHIVED Need Advice About Going Back To Work As A Teacher...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
It sounds to me like you have not yet got your tummy situation figured out--you are still very ill and, while I totally understand your need and desire to return to work, you can't. Can you imagine someone with out-of-control epilepsy teaching third graders and having seizures several times a day in front of the kids? Forget about being an effective teacher... -
ARCHIVED Coffee?
Fiddle-Faddle replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Coffee has always given me the runs, but the real reason I don't drink it is the post-caffeine crash. There seems to be a link between gluten and bipolar syndrome--and there is a very strong link between coffee/caffeine and bipolar syndrome. Like Deb says, we are all different--but if you have any tendencies toward neuro issues, I would steer clear of... -

Fiddle-Faddle replied to Lisa's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
"Kosher Parve" does not have anything to do with Passover (in case that's what made you wonder if they were wheat-free). "Parve" means that it is neither milk nor meat, but neutral, so someone who keeps Kosher can eat it with either milk or meat and not break the rules of keeping Kosher. However, you might be able to find Manischevitz Kosher-for-Passover... -
ARCHIVED For The Newly Diagnosed
Fiddle-Faddle posted a topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
There have been several posts lately from some of the newly diagnosed among us who have been advised by their nutritionists that Corn Flakes are gluten-free. THEY'RE NOT. I hate to burst bubbles here, but it seems that the nutritionists are NOT up to speed on what is and isn't gluten-free! Please make sure to read ALL labels, and remember, it's... -
ARCHIVED Public Restroom Issues...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
This is a great place to learn about hidden gluten! You're gonna have to read labels like a maniac. Most soy sauces list wheat as the second ingredient (before soy!), and cereals like Rice Krispies and Corn Flakes (and many, many others) contain malt, which is definitely gluten. Oats are a major cross-contamination issue, as they are grown on the same... -

ARCHIVED Public Restroom Issues...
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi, Walter, and welcome aboard! Just out of curiosity--do you have gluten intolerance/celiac as well as Crohn's? Have you totally eliminated gluten from your diet, or are you "gluten-lite?" There is an amazing amount of "hidden" gluten in unexpected places like soy sauce, "lite" ice creams, and even deli tuan salad (contains bread crumbs ). And might... -
ARCHIVED Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity/intolerance
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Chrisser's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Chrisser, there are people on this board who have been diagnosed as celiac by biopsy--yet they did not have either of the "celiac genes!" Based on that, I suspect that either there are more celiac genes than the scientists yet know, or (more likely) that celiac is not dependent on genetics. Personally, I believe that celiac (as defined by villi damage... -

ARCHIVED Omg...i Might Be On To Something
Fiddle-Faddle replied to Rachel--24's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Fascinating info on cavitations. Rachel. Okay, I know this is too simplistic--but what about those antibacterial dental rinses? Wouldn't they kill microorganisms in the mouth? Or would they just make a select few of them stronger?
