  1. Anyone know if any gluten free restaurants/stores in Traverse City, Michigan? My mom is flying in from Buffalo, Wyoming for my son's graduation on Monday. I live in Midland and I'd like to take her to Traverse City to see Lake Michigan. She is a celiac also. Anyone from Michigan know of any gluten free places to go? In Wyoming, there is not alot available...
  2. Me too? Hope this isn't an inconvenience. Thanks. My email is taraolderthandirt@yahoo.com
  3. So sorry for your being riced. I thought the same thing with corn and possibly brown rice. I tried them thinking that I had "outgrown" the problem. Nope. No such luck. Hope things go better for you. Tara
  4. I also have problems swallowing. I have problems with rice, potatoes, meat, fruit, veggies etc. I have been on protonix since my diagosis in feb 2006. I have also had problems clearing my throat. It seems like I have a chronic problem with this. Anyone else?
  5. I'm with ya on the beer thing. I loved beer. Nothing like an ice cold beer. Fosters, Labattes, Blue Moon, Molson, XXX's, I could go on and on. I live in Midland, MI, I would really like to have a store in this area that has a gluten free beer. Tara
  6. You might consider seeing your doc for this issue. If your muscle is sore to touch, your chest wall is in pain and it has been like this for awhile, you may be doing more damage to it by leaving it untreated. It could be nothing, but you may have a bone spur, muscle/tendon tear or something that has gotten loose within the shoulder structure. Tara
  7. It is amazing to me that so many doc's will not listen to their patients. Find another doctor and don't stop until you find one who will listen to you. I have a philosophy that I also push onto my clients, the bottom line is that you pay your doctor to help you. You are their bread and butter. If you get an arogant one, find another. Don't hesitate to...
  8. I have had muscle pain for most of my life. The pain at times was excruciating. Muscle fatigue did not start affecting me until my early 30's. The most frustrating thing about these symptoms, is that it is hard to figure out the source of the problem. I spent nearly 15 years trying to find a reason for why I could not run more than 50 feet without experiencing...
  9. can anyone tell me what brands of rice cakes are gluten free? Thanks, Tara
  10. I believe that I am intolerant to corn also. I was always getting sick. So one day I bought some gorilla munchies? crunchies?, anyways I was a mess. Then I decided that it was all in my head and made pancakes. I looked at the ingredients and there was corn flour and ate the pancakes. All of them. Sick as a dog for hours! I have realized the same unfortunate...
  11. Ohhhhhhh my son has gotten it again! I've been nitpicking forever! Strand by strand, by strand, by strand.................. I like the "NIT" - inator! pretty funny! Tara
  12. There is a link on celiacchicks.com that has a pretty good recipe. I think the link refers to celiac goddess or something similar. I added a few of my own things to the recipe. pretty good stuff.
  13. I've read lots of references to rice cakes. Which brands are gluten free? Great idea to have peanut butter and rice cakes. Just that suggestion alone can help me cope with being hungry all of the time!

    ARCHIVED Vision

I have had problems with peripheral vison too. I can no longer use my glasses. I try to use my bifocals, but can't use them with my computer. My vision has been worse since this diet. Not sure of what is going on. good luck to you also. We've got a long road ahead of us. Tara
  15. I love beer, so I drank a six pack of Foster's Lager. I drank it throughout the day and cherished every sip!
  16. I usually know right away with some things. Like corn flour, I have felt it burn my throat on the way down. Most other things take about 30 minutes before the cramping, pain, and stomach rumbling starts. I have not had to go to the hospital, but I did think about it a few times because of the pain intensity.
  17. I have had similar reactions. Severe stomach pain, sweating, etc. I have taken Darvocet a few times to stop the pain and it has worked. I also try to take it easy on my stomach for the next several days. I try to eat something bland, like rice cereal for several meals until the burn goes away. tara
  18. I have experienced alot of things prior to my diagnosis. So much that people around me would just tolerate me and my "issues. My office mates now say that I have an "ailment". If I call in sick from pain or fatigue, they will text message me and ask what my ailment is today...? I'm tired of the lack of concern and no one seems to appreciate what I have...
  19. I have had problems with apples, but usually the more acidic ones. I used to eat Pink Lady apples all of the time. Since I have gone gluten free, this type of apple causes my mouth to swell and I get sores on my tongue. I have not had any kind of apple since this experience.
  20. When I get glutened, I suffer severe abdominal pain. I'm doubled over, in bed and usually end up just sobbing because it hurts so bad. Saturday, I had what I thought was a gluten free "Coco Loco" bar, and I was a mess. I was so desperate for a remedy, I took a Darvocet. In about 8 hours, I was in good enough shape to get out of bed. I'm not sure if this...

    ARCHIVED Vision

Has anyone had problems with their vision? I have never noticed this before I was diagnosed, but since my diagnosis in feb 2006 my eyes have been doing weird things. Today, I went to my children's conferences at the high school. I went into the bathroom and when I was washing my hands, I couldn't focus on the mirror in front of me. It felt weird. I walked...
  23. Before I was diagnosed I did not have the effects that I have now. Just today I was glutened from a "gluten free" lunch at a conference. I felt like a match was tossed down my throat. I usuallly feel bloated and a few hours later I get the "trots" One lesson learned today: Do not eat anything at a conference but the food that you bring from home.
  24. Lisa, i am also new and have noticed other food sensitivities. I have learned the hard way thru this whole thing. I am having problems with corn. Corn is in everything. I am trying to eat simplly. Meat, veggies, fruit and dairy. for now until I heall. I woulld encourage you to do the same. Then add new things one at a time. I am also from Michigan...
  25. Great advice from everyone. I am a newbie and have gotten great feedback from everyone. I have accidentally glutened myself a few times, but was advised to eat veggies, fruit and fresh meat. I have followed that advice, but have added rice cereal for breakfast. I have found that the more simple I keep it, the better I feel. let your system adjust to...
