ARCHIVED Bruises
whitball replied to lilypad23's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I have been gluten-free since 2/2006 and continue to bruise very easily. The weirdest thing is my fingers. I can simply bend them sometimes and I'll feel a sting, and when I look to find out what happened, I find that I have broken a blood vessel. Happens all of the time. Anyone else? -
ARCHIVED Please Tell Me This Gets Better...
whitball replied to JustMeInMD's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I can assure you, this will get easier. I had a similar post a year ago. I was angry, depressed, sad. I even cheated just to see what would happen. Well.......I got sick, very sick. It's not worth it, so you have to make this work for you. I have problems with rice and corn also, so I really struggled for awhile. I have learned a a few things though... -
surgery is not an option for me either. I'll try the wrist brace to see if this helps. Good idea! I may try them when I drive also. I cover two counties and put around 1200 miles on my car every month. My thumbs go numb everyday. thanks for the info.

I have had lots of pain in my wrists and elbows. My biggest problems is that I have numbness in my thumbs, index and middle fingers on both hands. This happens every night. Anyone else?

ARCHIVED Moving To Colorado, Boulder/denver, Westminster Area
whitball replied to tiffjake's topic in Traveling with Celiac Disease
Sorry, I have no advice on where you should go. I'm just simply jealous that you are moving there. I am originally from Wyoming and have family and friends in the Fort Collins area. You'll love the area and the beauty is unbelievable. Good luck and enjoy your new home. -
ARCHIVED Outback Alice Springs Chicken
whitball replied to holiday16's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I have told my story about Alice Springs Chicken on a few other threads. I ordered this meal at the Outback in Saginaw, Michigan off of their gluten free menu. I went through the entire routine of making sure the staff understood the importance of this meal being prepared carefully. I ate the meal and about two hours later, I was extremely ill. I vomited... -
I would make sure that you have information about your blood levels from your last blood test, where can you purchase gluten free products, is there someone who can be a mentor for a few months until your get used to your new way of life, when is your next endoscopy? Blood work up? do your children (if you have children). What part of Wyoming are you...

I also have IC. My doctor was unable to find ulcerations on my bladder, but has diagnosed me with IC. Not everyone has the bladder ulcerations. Orange juice, anything with Cranberries, tomatoes, wine and stress all cause significant pain for me. I am being treated with Elavil at bedtime to help with the throbbing pain that I have when I have a flare-up...

ARCHIVED Angry, Sad, Mad, Downright Emotional - Need To Vent
whitball replied to radgirl's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
feel free to vent all you want! I've been gluten-free since Feb 2006 and I have yelled, cried, over ate, drank myself silly, etc to cope with this problem. When I wake up in the morning, I have the same problem, just a different day. I do know that I am still struggling and go through stages of anger. I think I may be a bit slower than most at being at... -

ARCHIVED Dx'd Yesterday...
whitball replied to amberleigh's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Welcome to this site. This site is where I get most of my information. I'm not sure that the dietician will provide alot of information. I requested a consult also, but the person I saw did not have experience with this disease, so she was not very helpful. I also want to congratulate you on getting a diagnosis and ending your misery. The journey of... -
I have posted my story on a prior thread. I went to the Outback in Saginaw, Michigan. I ordered Alice Springs Chicken. I went through the whole ordering routine to make sure that the waitress understood my need to have the meal gluten free. About an hour later, I was vomiting and had the "D". I spent the next nine hours vomiting and was unable to get...

ARCHIVED Can Urine And Saliva Tests Pinpoint Other Food Allergies?
whitball replied to whitball's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I recently contacted my dr. to ask for a test to find out other things that I was allergic to so that I would not need to do the trial an error thing with food. I told his nurse that I was having problems with rice and corn. The nurse called back and told me that corn and rice did not have gluten in them. Well.... no kidding! But I seemed to be reacting... -
ARCHIVED Heart Flip Flop
whitball replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
My doctor has instructed me to go to the ER if the flopping does not stop because my father had ventricular tachachardia. His AV node had a malformation causing the same symptoms that I have had. I have gone all day and night before with flops every minute or two. I kept thinking it would go away. He does not want me to wait it out this long. -
ARCHIVED Heart Flip Flop
whitball replied to holdthegluten's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
I have similar problems. Usually worse when I have been glutened, anxiety, or when under extreme stress. Many people have some very similar experiences, but you should not assume anything and think that because of the similarities you are okay. Have yourself checked out. It is difficult to have tests during times when your heart is not acting up. You... -
ARCHIVED Biking And Foot Numbness/muscle Burn
whitball replied to whitball's topic in Sports and Fitness
You probably are very correct on this. My mountain bike is okay, but the road bike is old, used, beat-up and too big for me. The distance between the seat and the pedal may be too far. Didn't even think about it when I started riding the bike. Thanks. -
Does anyone have problems with their feet going numb while biking? Whenever I ride any long distance, my feet, starting from the ball of the foot to the toes go completely numb. Yesterday, I rode twenty- five miles. Other days I ride ten to fifteen miles. No matter what the distance, my feet go numb. Is this common? Is it neuropathy? I also suffer...

ARCHIVED Cds Who React To All Grains (incl. Rice & Corn)
whitball replied to 92Aotearoa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
Corn causes stomach pain and the"D" for me. Rice, especially brown rice causes migraines, muscle pain and gas. I used to eat boxes and boxes of Cocoa Pebbles, but always had bloating and gas. didn't put 2 and 2 together until I ate some brown rice bread and had the same reaction but more severe. Since I have stopped both, i have felt better. It just... -
ARCHIVED Cds Who React To All Grains (incl. Rice & Corn)
whitball replied to 92Aotearoa's topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I also react to rice and corn. I have suffered from ongoing pain and have found that having my medications compounded can solve some of the problem with pain and my reactions to grains. Hydrocodone can be compounded. Darvocet cannot for some reason. I have taken Darvocet for the last few years and am aware that this medication is causing some of my symptoms... -
ARCHIVED Anyone Ever Cheat On This Diet?
whitball replied to sillyyak's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
oh yes I have cheated....... once and I will never do it again. It is not worth the pain. I had the same reaction as when I had been glutened by "gluten free" Alice Springs Chicken at the Outback. Both times I spent 8 to 9 hours laying on the bathroom floor with severe D and vomiting often at the same time. I thought that I was dying and probably should... -
ARCHIVED Can Urine And Saliva Tests Pinpoint Other Food Allergies?
whitball posted a topic in Food Intolerance & Leaky Gut
I am having problems with rice and corn and stopped by a health food store on Friday to find other flour options. The person told me that urine and saliva samples can help me pinpoint the other foods that I am allergic to. Has anyone had this test done? The person told me that the test is very reliable. Why didn't my dr. suggest this? -
congrats on your new job! Hopefully all goes smoothly. I'd be up front right away about your diet and offer this website for them to gather additional information. I offered this to my boss and she has gotten onto the site and has been very understanding. Good luck and enjoy your vacation.
