Barb, hope you are all better soon. Something to think about, you could have gotten wheat off the spice bottles if you had not cleaned them really well. Also, if like me you have an old dogeared cookbook with the family recipes it could have flour on it - mine is covered in flour - I have been using it since I was 17 !!!!! I am careful to wash my hands...

ARCHIVED Can't Stand It Anymore!
daffadilly replied to whitball's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
getting started on the diet is very hard to do. The first thing is to clean out your kitchen so you do not eat something that you should not, the wheat stuff is addictive so get rid of the stuff that you will grab in a weak moment. For at least 3 to 4 weeks, it is best if you do not go out & buy gluten-free breads and things, better to just eat meat... -
ARCHIVED Help! A Sick Celiac!
daffadilly replied to a topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I love Chipotle, but it will make me sick every time, so I have sworn off going there, although I love the food, - it is not worth it. I ask them to change the gloves etc. but what they do is when they dip out the beans they touch the spoon to the flour tortilla & then back into the beans, same for the meat etc. -
ARCHIVED No Diagnosis
daffadilly replied to PetaC's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I agree that Postive dietary Response is the final diagnosis for celiac/gluten intolerance. If you really want to know what is going on, you can test thru Enterolab.com, no doctors orders needed. You can also get your genes tested there. If you do test with them, please let us know the results. My family has DQ1, so far we all have two each, which is... -

re blood pressure, yes it could go down when you quit eating gluten, and yes, it sounds like you got some hidden gluten in one of the foods that you ate. I hope you are better soon. -

ARCHIVED Question About Reintroducing Dairy (cow's Milk)
daffadilly replied to mamatide's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
OMG, why in the world would you keep trying to give her milk when it is obvious that she is dairy intolerant. It is not going to go away in 7 months, it might never go away. No one REALLY needs dairy - ever, please do some research on this... -
ARCHIVED Family Not Believing W/o Dr Diagnosis
daffadilly replied to doulagrl's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
I am so sorry also that you are having to suffer the ignorance of your uneducated hubby. You will also have to stay gluten-free if you breast feed. & I agree with everyone else you HAVE to stay gluten-free while pregnant... You could get tested thru Enterolab.com the test will be positive for gluten sensitivity for up to one year after being gluten... -
I would make a complete Thanksgiving dinner for your family the day before Thanksgiving, then I would take the leftovers to the family get together which is all about family fun, & seeing the great uncle one last time etc... It sounds like your family lives near so this would set your own tradition and allow your child to have a special meal with her...

ARCHIVED Fuming...mil Doesn't 'get It'!
daffadilly replied to anerissara's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
that mother in law must have had to work really hard to bring home a torte!! & then to have the tackiness to mention how expensive it was. I would be wrapping that thing up and taking it back to her for thanksgiving & tell her that it was so expensive that you just did not feel right eating it all by yourself, that you just had a cheap bowl of ice... -

Just to clarify my post, I do not advocate eating a turkey stuffed with gluten or a turkey that is not stuffed, if you do not know what it was basted with. I also find it amazing that people are still stuffing the turkey, we quit doing that years ago. It really is a food poisoning hazard. Anyone that has read any of my posts would know that I...

Most turkeys come with a basting packet that is not gluten free. But, yes everyone can make their own decisions as to how careful they want to be. I have a friend that has been "gluten free" for at least 15 years and she knows all the medical stuff and works at a lab with a bunch of doctors. She cheats and has done it for years, she also has major health...

ARCHIVED Hi. Newbie Here! Wondering If I Have Celiac.
daffadilly replied to nucci's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Good for you for checking into this. Getting a negative blood test caused a lot of people to suffer needlessly for years. Hopefully other people that have gotten a negative blood test will also figure it out. I would quit eating gluten immediately, order the tests from enterolab, including the gene test. If you have two genes then you have passed one... -

ARCHIVED Please Consider The Diet!
daffadilly replied to Terch's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Congratulations on your better health and also for going on the diet without the need for "doctors orders". It is so refreshing to hear from people that have learned to think for themselves!!!! Yes, the blood test might be a good idea, but be prepared for it to be negative. I would encourage you to go the Enterolab route & check the genes also... -
ARCHIVED Any Way It Is Celiac?
daffadilly replied to miko920's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
your assessment of the doc is correct, he/she is worthless & a total idiot when it comes to celiac disease. back in the dark ages you would only get a diagnosis of celiac if you were on your death bed & losing a pound a day with your ribs poking out & your belly protruding, by then it was too late, the patient died. A lot of times they called... -
ARCHIVED Mysteriously Sick
daffadilly replied to rwygle1's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
When you are on a gluten free diet your blood test will not be positive, usually. (depends on how long you were on the diet and how stict you were with it...) you certainly have the signs of celiac, especially with the improvement on the diet. What is probably going on now with the blood test being negative is that you were on the diet long enough to give...
