  2. Brach's candy is NOT gluten free, although they do not list it on their label & they are not co-operative when you call them, Open Original Shared Link This is the site to the gluten free candy list made by Melonie Katz with the Silly yak group on Yahoo, as posted on the list serv also, there is some current controversy about the miniature hershey...
  3. Thanks Tiffany, I should not have been dispensing medical advice except to my own family
  4. Yes, I have had a lot of problems with antibiotics. Be sure to take it after you have a meal no matter what the instructions say. Try Cipro. why are you taking an antibiotic?
  5. I keep my Mission Brand white Corn tortillas in the refrigerator. I heat them in a cast iron skillet. I put the ingredients on them and then put them edges side down on my plate. For enchiladas, I heat a stack of them, wrapped in foil, in the oven, just till warmed. Then I dip one in a pot of hot Hormel chili with beans, lay in the casserole dish...
  6. thanks, I put this under my kid friendly recipes!!! I have some chocolate cookie crumbs that I have been wanting to use up...
  7. Here are some substitutions for 1 cup of wheat flour from Carol Fenster's "Special Diet Solutions" if you could only buy one cookbook, I would recommend this one - it has all the basics. 1 cup Corn Flour 3/4 Cup Cornmeal 3/4 cup Cornstarch 3/4 Cup Chickpea Flour - garbanza beans 7/8 Cup chickpea & Fava Bean Flour from Authentic foods (if recipe is...
  8. uh, can we have the recipe ??? That is an easy substitution, there is a substitute cracker for the graham crackers, whole foods carry them, but I cannot remember the name - they are hard though, so you have to really crush them or put in the blender. when I was using them I liked to add a little almond flour to them to lighten them up a bit. They...
  9. Oh Adelle, I hope you feel better soon, and HAPPY ANNIVERSARY
  10. Almost, that is what I do about eating something that I really should not, I of course would never put a crumb of gluten near my face but now a candy bar or better yet, I made myself a huge pan of gluten free dairy free fudge, now that stuff was baddddddd in such a good chocolatey way. I also would never be without a bag of Gluten free Pantry brownies...
  11. Good for you sounds like you are in the swing of things. That sounds like a great lunch, and snacks. I have been meaning to post about these great tupperware type containers that I have, they are water tight, so they can float in a cooler of water (or sink) & they will not get water in them, the name is Biokips. they are in several sizes, an oblong...
  12. besides the kitchen cross contamination, I would highly suspect the gluten-free waffles and pamelas mixes etc. It is my opinion that the grains they use have some cross contamination. I love some of those products but I will get glutened most every time. It is just not worth it. I mostly eat whole foods, except when I feel I must have something sweet...
  13. Dear Almost, One word: cross contamination, (okay it was two) if it was not at the bakery it was in one or more of the gluten-free grains that they used. If it is the same grain that you use without a problem it could be the supplier of the grain, maybe ground on different equipment etc. I do not have DH, but I get glutened by most of the gluten-free...
  14. Are you taking a B12 every day? Also, are you eating any gluten-free grains in gluten-free goodies, I think that the tiny amount of cross contamination in them is enough to cause depression. Just my opinion...
  15. Just order your smart hubby the book "dangerous Grains" by James Braly, M.D. and Ron Hoggan, M.A. $10.00 at amazon .com I would also print out this thread for his leisure reading. If you have the money you could have his genes tested at Enterolab and the genes of your children. I have found that these DQ1 genes that we have are very smart and are very...
  16. welcome to the board, sorry you are not felling well. I have talked to several people like you that were virtually eating nothing but wheat before diagnosis. somehow those people seem to be able to eat the wheat, all the while it is damaging their intestines and all other foods give them stomach aches etc. I would also like to second the advice about...
  17. just guessing here but burning the in the gut sounds like it could be allergy or glutening. dairy? severe pain - have you checked your gall bladder? cyst on ovary? bladder infection? kidney stones/gravel?? Sorry not much help...
  18. Oh, I feel for you, but I was wondering if I should post because from the point of old age, none of it seems worth it, I would so not be MOH, since the parents are friends I might go to the wedding instead of flying to Paris for the weekend. She has one MOH that should be enough. I would be talking about how with this disease that all my hair is falling...
  19. For those having a lot of problems, I have a couple suggestions, one check out the specific carbohydrate diet, you can google it, there is a site called pecan bread or something like that. two: do not eat any grains of any kind - gluten-free or otherwise three; do not eat beef or farm raised shrimp and fish because the grains in the feed, antibiotics...
  20. Mayflower, send her the book, it is about $10.00 at amazon .com. DQ1 is also the gene that goes along with addictions whether to food, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, etc. On the questionnaire from Enterolab they ask you if you or anyone in your family is alcoholic. Wheat and dairy is addictive. some people cannot or will not give up wheat. I have a sister...
  21. This sounds so great, I want to order the cookbook & the coconut flour. I will look back to the first post to see if you named the site. About 15 years ago I was in Belize (central America) and a lady made me some coconut bread & it was delicious. She had an outdoor kitchen in a shed that was next to her little house. Her oven was a washtub...
  22. Southern Corn Bread Stuffing 101 bake a pan of corn bread (or two) crumble up corn bread a cup or so of gluten-free crumbs (I use the Lunndberg rice Chip crumbs that I save in the freezer & put them in the blender) This just lightens up the dressing a bit, you could just add a little cooked rice instead... add diced celery (1/2 the stalk for one...
  23. I do not know about the enzymes, but I do know that my sister and I that have DQ1 cannot eat beef, it gives us a stomach ache, not sure of the reason, but with the horror stories of beef I am happy not to eat it. With the ham I would say it was likely all the additives in the ham that was the problem... I would say to stick to things like chicken,...
  24. Just make some better choices with the same type foods you are eating, not necessarily more expensive. for one thing most of have a problem with lunch meats due to the sulfites, nitrites etc etc. Try the Hormel all natural lunch meat, it comes in a brownish package in the regular lunch meat section and it says gluten free right on the package and all...
  25. Curlysue, Welcome to the boards, sorry you have so many issues going on. I do not know much about candida, but you could google "Specific Carbohydrate Diet" (SCD), I think there is a good link at pecanbread.com or something like that... You are probably in the midst of a sugar addiction. All that stuff that you bought at the store you need to just pack...
