ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
mommida replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
It is 1 degree farenheit / -17 c and the schools stayed open! Rabbits are in the tub as the temp is dropping to -6 F. Today I would move in a heartbeat! Everyone here has the winter blahs. Seriously we are all vitamin D deficient. -

I heard we will be in another deep freeze. We will look forward to -2 for a high temp for Tuesday. (Bunnies will be back in the tub!) Let's see what kind of wind chill we can look forward to!!? The kids have Monday off school for MLK day. They will probably close schools on Tuesday for the extreme cold, depending on the windchill. -
ARCHIVED New Guy- Needs Help To Start Diet For The New Year!

I'm a little pee wee stock person, but I believe in supporting myself. My daughter has been challenging eggs. It's going well, and it looks like she will be able to keep eggs in the diet. There was a lot of gluten free products she couldn't have. I'll be looking for the muffins next time I head out! -

I finally got to try Udi's bread. It is awesome. (I also checked my stock, and guess what? The company acquired Udi's! Every time I buy a loaf of Udi's, I'm kinda paying myself!) :D :D -

We are predicted to get another 3-5 inches of snow tonight. But wait there's more! I live in a crazy little band of it's own weather, it makes more snow than the surrounding areas. Basically I live where the ski resorts are in my state. I have a Jeep. The focus of safe winter drivers is to have a good handle on STOPPING. Those little flour... -

It was funny because of Texas shutting down for ice. There isn't much you can do when you are sliding on ice. I do believe in snow days. (They are mental health days in my opinion.) My sister did have frostbite on her cheeks. It didn't look like what they describe most of the time. They usually say redness. Her face was sparkley, frozen, and pale... -

What do you mean there is another polar vortex coming? I Just got the rabbits back out to the barn! I did read a headline that said We are turning into weather "whimps". The "author" of the article was from Texas. (Texas did not have over a foot of snow and wind chills of 40 below) -
ARCHIVED Anyone Had Luck With Olive Garden?
mommida replied to MominSoCal's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
From my experience I would try an Outback Steakhouse, P.F. Chang's, or Carrabbarra's before going to Olive Garden. My son did enjoy the fish (I think it was salmon). -

We have finally got to above 0 degrees! The sun is shining, and we might get warm enough weather by the weekend it can rain on the "polar vortex" snow dump. Well now you can refer to that as "the spa day incident" I really hope you are to the point you can laugh about it, because I laughed so hard I am drying the tears in my eyes. One of the guys... -

We did find a vet that was a 4H kid. We had a rabbit with horrible malclusion. She only charged us $25 a month to sedate him to trim his teeth. (so not every vet is so horrible on prices) Nail trimming is done on "spa day". The lucky bunny gets a little water in the tub near the drain for playing and soaking. The lovely fun of the bottom check and... -

The breed names for Lops is confusing. It was breed evolution that lead to this. The French Lop was very big and then the Mini Lop was developed. The mini Lop was smaller. Then there was manipulation of dwarf genes in that breed to develop the Holland Lop. Holland Lops must be under 4 pounds. Trying to breed Holland Lops is just tragic sometimes. The... -

What was worse was trying to use the bathroom with a rabbit staring at me. Hearing my daughter say rabbits in the tub makes it sound like we are doing drugs / psychotic break from reality or something. Some of the names.... Bruce Wayne (Batman), Morgan Freeman, Loki, and Don Kelly (Tigers baseball player) are in the bath tub at my house. :D -

Smearing on Vaseline can lock in skin moisture and keep some wind rash down. It is brutal cold and we have to figure out how to bring a rabbit herd in. (show bunnies can be such Divas!) The cages are just too nasty to bring in so it looks like they will have to sleep in the carriers and have exercise time in the bathtub. I hope it doesn't mess up the... -
ARCHIVED Is Yeast Gluten Free?
mommida replied to River*'s topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I accidentally bought yeast that contains gluten. (From the mistaken belief ~that all yeast would be gluten free) PLATINUM superior baking yeast by Red Star contains WHEAT. The 3 packet strip is white with a small red slash on the bottom packet that reads premium instant yeast with dough enhancers ingredients listed... Yeast, soy flour, ascorbic acid... -

Ohhhh I forgot to tell you katz gluten free products offers a free sample pack of Kosher gluten free products. You do have to pay for shipping. I do not have to be Kosher but I enjoyed some food items I never had before. Back to the reason for the food journal, I found out coconut makes me vomit. I never really ate much coconut before, and didn... -

I like Glutino pretzels more than Snyder's. It could be that I have been eating the Glutino brand for 2-3 years before Snyder's came out. I like Glutino products so much I bought stock in the company. -

Avoid some of the gluten free product overload. Give yourself some time to adjust your taste buds. Enjoying food is a texture and taste adventure, and gluten definitely supplies texture in food. Baked goods taste much sweeter without the wheat flour. Keep a food journal. It can help trace cross contamination, hidden gluten, or another food intolerance... -
I'm sure she has put a lot of practice and dedication to her singing... but it is nice to see talent overcome obstacles! Congratulate her for all of us here on the forum. She had that competition in the bag. (barf bag) just trying to be punny

ARCHIVED 16 Month Old With Probable Celiac Disease
mommida replied to AGsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My only concern if it is not Celiac, that the time window for proper diagnoses is still there. In the case of Eosinophilic Esophagitis, there is also a seasonal trigger. My daughter was diagnosed when she was six and she is now 11. We have seen how things really flare up in late summer early fall. The winter deep freeze that hits (and it came early this... -

ARCHIVED 16 Month Old With Probable Celiac Disease
mommida replied to AGsMom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed as "probable" Celiac at 16 months old. Problem right now, she needs to be eating gluten for the damage to show up during an endoscopy with biopsy. My daughter was too sick to have the endoscopy done. She had a positive celiac panel and 2 Celiac genes. This is the rest of the story.... When my daughter turned 6 all of the... -
