ARCHIVED "toddler Diarrhea"- Diagnosis?
mommida replied to omgmegg's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
The doctor needs to put down a "diagnoses" so insurance will cover the visit. IBS and toddler diarrhea might be code words for "pay me". -
ARCHIVED Party Cake... Peeps!
mommida replied to Adalaide's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Ummm. thanks for sharing. Now, I think I have to go shopping. I was thinking about trying to make something obnoxious for a desert. This might do the trick. -
Removed all at once. A follow up endoscopy when she was feeling better. A challenge in simplest form about a teaspoon's amount for 3 days (wait 12 days) I do want you to know she does not take steroids or Prevacid for treatment, she just avoids foods that were eliminated. She has problems late summer / early fall showing an airborne allergen connection...

My daughter was diagnosed with EoE years after the Celiac diagnoses. There is now a proven connection between Celiac and EoE. (in fact all new cases of EE are supposed to be screened for Celiac) As for EoE management, patients should try an elimination diet. (Usually all top 8 allergens and peas~ the usual suspects first) Brands of food that might...

ARCHIVED Is Vomiting A Symptom After Being Glutened?
mommida replied to Cara in Boston's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Vomiting was a system of my daughter's Celiac in pre-diagnoses days. (16 months old) She was put on a gluten free diet and did great. UNTIL she was 6 years old..... It seemed like she was getting glutened. It turned into a vomit cycle that would continue until she was put on an IV at the hospital. It progressively got worse. She would vomit up to... -

Weight loss that happened that quickly can mess with your gall bladder. A full blown gall bladder attack is a crazy assault on your body. (I can't even think of words to describe it. My issues may have been triggered by 30 lbs of weight loss, the F's ~ Female, Forty, Fertile, & Fair (risk description of usual patients) ((Glad to be a man aren't cha...- 7 replies

ARCHIVED Reimagining Eating Gluten Free
mommida replied to Dhiggins's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
I would want a discount. (If a restaurant has a "normal" meal option ~ the gluten free version usually omits the gluten parts of the meal.) I would want to have a gluten free menu. -
ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
mommida replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
Family members have been relocating to warmer climates and sending pictures of the beauteous weather too. I send them back a picture of my glove with the middle finger up straight in the snow. Usually with the mailbox as a height reference to show how high the snow is this year. -

Years ago a bought this coat, the polar parka, from Eddie Bauer. It is rated for -50 C. It can feel stiff, but I am soo glad I kept it all these years. I think it would be pretty hard to breathe at -67 wind chill!!? I'm in Michigan. A Troll. (that means I live under the bridge/ lower peninsula.) More snow coming tonight. Just spent 1/2 an... -
ARCHIVED Cold Snowy Winter Comin'............ Git Ready
mommida replied to Candy's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
No kidding. The temperature was -11 at 8:30 this morning. The kids in local areas had school today because there are no snow days left. I'm keeping my fingers crossed peeps don't end up with frostbite or serious car accidents from this cold and ice. -
ARCHIVED Picky Eater Probable Celiac
mommida replied to Austins-Mom's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
What do you mean by picky eater? PICA, iron defiency that causes the desire to chew non-food items, can seem like picky eating. Chewing food and then spitting it out is a sign of pica. -
ARCHIVED Baby Symptoms Of Celiac Anyone?
mommida replied to langone7's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
If you are going to a pediatric gastroenterologist, you might have a 3 month wait for the specialty. You must continue giving the patient gluten for the testing to be accurate. (Celiac is diagnosed from the damage caused from eating gluten ~ if you don't have the damage the will not be a diagnoses.) -
Umm you have heard of the Toronto Blue Jays? They are a Canadian team (usually hire some players from the US like my neighbor who won the Cy Young award and is currently part of the teams pitching coaches.) If you can play hockey, you can play baseball.

This cold snap is the worst so far. The little bit of melting caused a rush of slush to puddle into the streets. Well now the streets are frozen solid and there are ruts in the ice. This can jerk the car over 2 feet easy if you hit the edge of the "track". Then there are the highly traveled roads that are clear of all ice. POTHOLES are eating cars... -
Now we need to lobby for baseball to be an Olympic sport. Baseball was an Olympic event, but is was dropped. That's what gambling and PED's will do for a sport.

ARCHIVED Is Endoscopy Needed For My 5 Year Old Daughter?
mommida replied to theresa70's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Udi's bread is fantastic! (We couldn't eat it for years because of an egg issue. We did the challenge, and have reintroduced eggs! ) There is still a time period of your taste buds adjusting. At first I grilled or toasted all bread. I always sent the kids with their own snacks. The closer they got to friends, the moms learned and started having gluten... -
ARCHIVED Suddenly Have Gluten Sensitivity?
mommida replied to lostinpa's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
A gluten free diet has been shown in some studies to be helpful for auto-immune diseases. (In basic terms.. the gluten protein chain is more complex, choosing a simple diet is easier for an already stressed body~ so eliminating extra stress in the gut enables the body to be healthier. The usual suspects for food intolerance/allergies are well known as... -
ARCHIVED Is Endoscopy Needed For My 5 Year Old Daughter?
mommida replied to theresa70's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Always have gluten free "treats" on hand. It is better to let your child make a decision about gluten free substitutes. (At least they have some control over the gluten free diet they must follow forever.) You will be amazed at all the treats and snacks you children are offered, and how much time is wasted eating at school. My kids were too young... -
Grrr. Congratulations Canada. There is a petition going around to deport Bieber. I feel bad for the kid, the parents too. Hollywood seems to have eaten him up, and getting really close to spitting him out.

I'm glad you have your diagnoses! Everyone has their own healing time. In my experience kids heal up pretty quick. -
No NO NO! It's double or nothing now. This decides it. :D

Congratulations Canadian Ladies hockey. That was a very talented match up. All of the American skiers that were interviewed basically said this Olympics are dedicated to Sarah. Sarah Burke is half pipe skiing, and she meant the world to so many. Now to the special bet for the men's hockey final..... The loser of the US vs. Canada hockey game ~...
