We are not only gluten free, but egg free too. I have found cream cheese really holds cookies together. So egg free tips are added at the end of the recipe. So please use a gluten free flour mix that has xanthan or guar gum. Cream cheese cut outs (I suggest you double the recipe too, if you have a strong mixer) 1 cup butter or margarine, softened...

ARCHIVED Confused And Need Advice
mommida replied to cmc811's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My daughter was diagnosed "probable" celiac when she was 16 months old. when she was 6 all "gluten" symptoms returned but very extreme. She was vomitting up to 5 times a day on average, dark circles under her eyes, complaints of her whole stomach area hurting, daily headaches, constipation, and her hair was falling out in clumps when she ran her fingers... -
ARCHIVED Confused And Need Advice
mommida replied to cmc811's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
At this point get the refferal to a pediatric gastro. doc. These symptoms are almost "general" and an endoscopy with biopsy should be done to rule in or out (diagnose) several possible disorders. (these disorders may be existing with Celiac) Possible disorders that can be diagnosed through the endoscopy with biopsy... H. Ployri infection parasites... -

Thank you for the recipe! My son loves egg nog, but we never have eggs in the house because of my daughter. -
ARCHIVED Toy Yorkies And Joint Pain
mommida replied to GF Lover's topic in Introduce Yourself / Share Stuff
I'm thinking the vet cost on this shouldn't be outrageous. An x-ray to show the hip problems and probably some pain pills. It's a hard thing. The pain pills will cause long term damage, but to have a little more pain free time with your guy is worth it. Definately try the glucosamine and chondroitin some dogs have really snapped right back to puppy hood... -

ARCHIVED Just Thought I'd Update On Dairy Queen
mommida replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I'm definitely going to look into those cakes. I may even make my own cake layers and ask them to fill it with the ice cream. We have to be egg free too so a lot of gluten free cakes don't work for us. -
ARCHIVED Is The gluten-free Diet Making Me Stupid?
mommida replied to C-Girl's topic in Post Diagnosis, Recovery & Treatment of Celiac Disease
Well that mystery is solved! I suggest you try some enhanced water (like Smart water that has magnesium, potassium, and calcium). You need a little bit more right now to help you get well. Did you see the panel range for vitamin B12? It usually has a normal range of at 200 to 300. I would guess that a vitamin B12 supplement would not hurt right now.... -
ARCHIVED Just Thought I'd Update On Dairy Queen
mommida replied to mommy2krj's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I found the story, It was under "He's finally starting to grow" How easy was it to find the gluten free cake at Dairy Queen? Was it made special? Is it a private franchise decision? Give me more information, because seriously I haven't been able to have many birthday cakes that I have not made. (That goes for my birthday too.) -

Just picked up on this post and I didn't read the story from the beggining. Can someone link me to the full story? -
ARCHIVED Borderline Celiac?
mommida replied to livinthelife's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
Celiac is mostly diagnosed from the blood panel and endoscopy with biopsy (of the small intestine not not the colon). Keep a food journal. It can help find "hidden" gluten. (yes, that small splash of soy sauce is gluten.) It can help find areas of cross contamination. (Switching to gluten free I kept a bottle of vanilla from the "gluten days" that... -

ARCHIVED Hidden Sources Of Gluten?
mommida replied to mshanson3121's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I just bought decorative hand soaps that have both oats and wheat in them. They look like robin eggs. Drywall has gluten in it apparently. I will see if the joint compund has an ingredient label. (Although I have never found an ingredient label on drywall.) At first I didn't even think about Playdough, because who eats Playdough. Kids do... -
ARCHIVED 10 Yr Old Just Diagnosed, But Strange Symptoms
mommida replied to Kjdaniels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Keep a food journal to see if there are any other food sensitivities. Cross contamination sites i.e.(going to barn on Saturday causes reaction~ what did you do at the barn? ~ fed horse oats.) (used "pretty" soap at Sally's house ~ mom checks with Sally's mom ~ decorative soap has oats and wheat in it) -
ARCHIVED New, Have Some Questions About My Children
mommida replied to mshanson3121's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Crazy pre diagnoses story..... Daughter started having severe Celiac symptoms when she started "solids". She was having symptoms on breastmilk too. I removed gluten from the family diet because docors kept blowing off concerns and didn't do any testing. (over 10 years ago ~ but I still hear doctors are blowing off testing for that "fad diet"). Improvement... -
ARCHIVED 10 Yr Old Just Diagnosed, But Strange Symptoms
mommida replied to Kjdaniels's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Welcome to the forum! Sounds like a possible reaction to the medication. (Celiac is usually not prescribed medicine ~ just a gluten free diet.) Some Celiacs need to be casein free (the protein chain of dairy) while the gut damage heals. Every one's diagnoses journey can be very different. like... Didn't notice any symptoms, then showed anemic on... -
ARCHIVED Lewey Body Disease (My Mom Just Was Diagnosed With It)
mommida replied to 1desperateladysaved's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Wow D. I'm sorry to hear about your mom's diagnoses. Do you know any common genes involved with Lewey? When we discuss genes associated with Celiac here, we are using a very shortened abbreviation of the HLA strand. We do have some very infromed members of the forum, but quite a few members are MIA!!? As a side note note... Someone I know was working... -

ARCHIVED Dear Dairy/casein Free Friends, Do You Cook With Ghee?
mommida replied to BelleVie's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
A friend whose son also has an auto-immune disease that has food triggers including dairy, uses ghee safely. The reason for this, the butter has been "clarified" breaking down the proteins. The proteins are what cause the reactions. It is a personal decision. I understand the logic, as my daughter was put on amino acid formula. -
ARCHIVED Stool Test Shows Elevated Eosinophils, Could It Be Celiac?
mommida replied to rdmullins's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Celiac can be "silent" and not be diagnosed until blood panel and endoscopy with biopsy is done. Your child is showing symptoms of something going on and is possibly Celiac. (an endoscopy with biopsy can also test for EGID, H. Ployri infection, parasites and other possible conditions.) Your child needs to keep eating a "normal" diet. If you eliminate... -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Covered Wavy Lays
mommida replied to LauraTX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Notme, You do know about Enjoy Life chocolate chips, right? So much better tasting than any chocolate chip that has soy in them. If I buy them for baking I have to hide them from the family or they are gone. Never to be seen again. -
ARCHIVED Chocolate Covered Wavy Lays
mommida replied to LauraTX's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I hope they are good! I have made potato chip cookies before and always thought they needed to be chocolate coated. (You might think the sound of it sounds gross, but I tell you YUM!) -
Sorry I can't help you much. You are at the bottom of new posts on my screen so BUMP if you aren't familiar with what that means, I have put your post back up to the top for ((hopefully)) that right person will take notice and answer. Usually a gluten free diet is helpful for colitis

ARCHIVED Toddler With Behavioral Changes And Severe Constipation
mommida replied to raea2002's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
Eosinophils are sometimes a diagnoses. EGID Where in the GI track were they found? count? Did your son have an endoscopy with biopsy? My daughter has both Celiac and Eosinophilic Esophagitis. A diagnoses of Eosinophil Gastrointestinal Disorder is a very serious diagnoses and the symptoms are extremely similar to Celiac. There is now a proven link between...
