ARCHIVED Newly Diagnosed 2 Year Old
mommida replied to Piggottc's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
You never stated if your son had an endoscopy with biopsy. (They obviously can't do one while your child is too ill.) Have the doctors ruled out Eosinophilic Esophagitus? There is a connection with Celiac and EoE (or EE) . Eosinophils can cause damage anywhere or throughout the gastro track. Usually the eosinophils are "triggered" by food, but are sometimes... -
ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Acts "drunk" For Hours: Symptom?
mommida replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
A few times when my daughter was not feeling well, she would just start to talk "crazy". It was a sign that she was getting dehydrated. She has hospitalized a few times needing an IV. Dehydration is also life threatening and needs prompt medical care. Before she was diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitus she was getting malnourished. A large chunk... -

The damage should be healing, but there really is no proven timeline to tell you. He may be casein intolerant for a while (casein is the protein chain of dairy). Since you are starting with B.R.A.T. diet, may I suggest when you get to toast that you start with an "allergen free" bread like Enjoy Life rice bread. (It seems free of most top 8 allergens... -
ARCHIVED 3 Year Old Acts "drunk" For Hours: Symptom?
mommida replied to D-borealis's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
My grandmother was an insulin dependent diabetic. "Acting drunk" was definitely a symptom of her sugar being off. Definitely get to a doctor and take this seriously. Smell her breath to check what is going on. Control sniff ~ no symptoms. When symptoms are present sweet breath smell ~ needs insulin, the other breath odor is described as smelling like... -

ARCHIVED Related To Celiac Or Another Ai Brewing?
mommida replied to answerseeker's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
There is a type of anemia that causes the red blood cells to be very large (macroblastic?) I think you can be at a normal count, but the bloods cells are not mormal and proper functioning. There is also an auto-immune disorder ITP, Idiopathic Thrombosis Purpura (spelling is probably not accurate and I believe there has been a change to the name. If... -
ARCHIVED Pillsbury gluten-free Pie Crust Dough
mommida replied to mbrookes's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
What about using it in muffin tins for mini pumpkin pie? Could be easier to work with and how well does the middle of the pie crust bake? (especially the middle of the pie?) Does anyone have any time to try this or experience working with it? I have been seeing some "non-stick" rolling pins too. -

ARCHIVED Baking Health Without Gluten, Yeast And Eggs, Any Tips?
mommida replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Look for recipes that only have 1 or 2 eggs to replace. 3 or more eggs in a recipe start using different replacers for the eggs. -
ARCHIVED Am I Being Too Cautious?
mommida replied to Mayasmum's topic in Parents, Friends and Loved Ones of Celiacs
I went into school to observe lunch because my daughter was still getting sick. She knew better than to eat gluten and was not getting sick during pre-school. She was getting sick when the kids were 6/7 years old. So during lunch the children talk with thier hands as they eat food crumbs flying and SECRETS were being told gluten sandwich in one hand and... -
ARCHIVED Baking Health Without Gluten, Yeast And Eggs, Any Tips?
mommida replied to Mum in Norway's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Try looking for some vegan cookbooks. (You probably can find gluten free vegan cookbooks.) It will help to figure out a lot of egg substitutions. There should also be an egg replacer product available. You can use baby food/ fruit puree, gelatin, vinegar and baking soda and many other things as egg replacers, but you need to adapt to what the egg is... -
I think when people have noticed the drastic improvement of a Celiac following a gluten free diet they are amazed. Gluten is a more complex protein chain for human digestion. Removing it from the diet and consuming more fruits and vegetables (gluten free people tend to start eating more fruits and vegetables ~ cause hey it's gluten free!) seems to improve...

We used sign language too. It was before we knew about Celiac and it was for my kids to bond. My son was 3 1/2 when my daughter was born. I am told it was not 100% accurate, but it worked. It was from some books and kid videos. Now that my son needs to take a second language, he is taking sign language. He is trying to go for a 4 year certification... -

Let toddlers make a choice (that you are comfortable with) when ever you can. This is the time of life when they are so egocentric/trying to be little control freaks. Remember this is a hard time for a little one to verbally communicate with you. -

Have you had his iron levels checked? PICA can have different symptoms for young children. There is the desire to eat non foods, but there can be a "crunch" desire too. (Why some pregnant women chew ice ~ no nutritional value, but crunchy. My daughter's symptom of PICA was to chew meat and then spit it out. These symptoms are noted by others and labeled... -

We have to pick up a quad with wench and snow plow. Waiting for the VIN number for street insurance. At least this can be used for fun off roading, when we don't have to clear snow. I will still have to hand shovel the walk way to the house. -

ARCHIVED Gastritus, Duodemitis, And Esophageal Erosion
mommida replied to LJR's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Do you have all the results from the EGD? My daughter has been diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitus showed gastritus and esophageal erosion (furrows, strictures, and a lot of damage to the esophagus looked like ulcers. ~ but the eosinophils count is part of the pathology report) If you can determine any foods "trigger" the damage you can avoid... -

jaundice would have the yellowing of the eyes. In Addison's there is a build up of Potassium. This causes the body to not store sodium. There is usually salt cravings involved. (ie this can be a craving for salty things like pickles, bacon, or just plain table salt. But who doesn't crave bacon!!?) -
