  1. I believe he was fed a gluten free diet. He contracted Hepatitus (during his stay in the "country club"?), and passed away at a very young age. I think she said it was only 3 years in the clink. She has retired from her pediatric office and now runs an emergency pediatric clinic.
  2. The kid's pediatrician told me about her ex-brother-in-, he went to prison and got diagnosed with Celiac. He was a lawyer who got busted for "fixing tickets". He was probably sent to the nicest institution a lawyer could find. Prison systems have come a long way. It really was a bread and water diet 1800's-1900's. Solitary confinement killed inmates...
  3. There is a condition, Eosinophilic Esophagitus that gives the same symptoms as glutening to a celiac. Gluten can even be the "trigger" for eosinophils to wreak havoc for 12 days. It is possible to have both celiac and EE. An endoscopy with biopsy is needed for both diagnoses and "normal" looking tissue needs to be sampled as eosinophils may be imbedded...
  4. I suggest the Allergen-Free Baker's handbook, How to Bake Without Gluten, Wheat, DAiry, Eggs, Soy, Peanuts, Tree nuts, and sesame by Cybele Pascal.
  5. Celiac alone should not show esophagial damage. (Unless there was severe vommiting from gluten ingestion.) Was there an eosinophil count taken from tissue samples of the esophagus? Were any of theses terms used to describe the esophagus... imflammation, furrowed, schataki ring, or strictures? Did you get to see pictures from the endoscopy? The imflammation...
  6. Yes gluten free, egg free, dairy free, nut free bread does exist. Ener-G bread and maybe Schar's. Ener-G has more added vitamins and mineral content and less salt. As for taste, toast or grill it. corn tortillas and lettuce make excellent "rolled" sandwichy type snacks.
  7. Hi Sarah, There are many things that can present with these symptoms. Really ASK the doctor what the endoscopy with biopsy is being done to "rule Out" or "rule in"?, what lab tests are going to be done on the tissue samples taken?,how many samples are being taken?, sorry lots my train of thought here. Keep in mind that "normal" looking tissue needs to...
  8. Were you diagnosed with Celiac? If you went gluten free because you noticed gluten was causing sore throats it could be eosinophilic esophagitus. Gluten can be a "trigger" for this disorder. There seems to be a connection to other disorders (ie Barret's esophagus) and Celiac too. I do suggest following up with a top notch gastroenterologist and a food...
  9. Keep a food journal. It can help pinpoint hidden gluten or cross contamination for gluten. It can help track down reation too. i.e. An eosinophilic reaction occurs for 12 days. A trial is a pure form of the food for 3 days, and then you wait for a 2 week period. Mentally you would be hard pressed to remember back 2 weeks what you ate.
  10. Don't forget to mention it at your follow up visit. There may have been a nick cut into the wrong place. If that is the case, that can be surgerical fix. To tell you honestly I still have a slight pain in that area when I get tired. Surgery was 1 1/2 years ago for me.
  11. There are a lot of substitutes for eggs. Like someone said, don't go chasing after a recipe that takes 3 or more eggs. Some people use tofu in typical "egg" meals. (IMO yuck) I can't think of the break down of the vinegar & baking soda egg substitute but you can get some lift to baked goods with that. A perfect example is in the "wacky cake" recipe...
  12. My daughter was diagnosed "probable" celiac when she was 16-17 months old. She definately had improvement until she was about 6 years old. It seemed like the bottom dropped out. It was if she was getting gluten from some where and constant pain. She was dignosed with eosinophilic esophagitus from another endoscopy with biopsy. There is a list of probable...
  13. I think my son is just getting over fifth's disease. His rash was mainly on his trunk. It can take 6 weeks to get over and by the time the rash shows up you shouldn't be contagious. Scarlett fever? ITP? Idiopathic Thrombosis Purpuria (might have misspelled that)
  14. Thank you for your brave service for our country. There is a long list of things that present with the same symptoms. If your scoping starts at the top it is called an endoscopy with biopsy. (biopsies need to be taken from "normal" appearing tissue. This rule in or out a lot of things. The smples then need to be evualated by a pathologist. (Who better...
  15. My sister-in-law is a spokesperson for a newer drug for heavy menstrual bleeding. Can be viewed on-line at drug's website. I am in now way linked to the drug other than that, but I don't think the rules of the board would want me promoting the medication.
  16. You have been diagnosed with Hashi's auto-immune thyroid disease. There is enough evidence to show people with an auto-immune disease have a positive result to better health on a gluten free diet. If you are done with testing, start the diet. Keep a food journal. Your body's response to the diet is your scientific test. The food journal can help you track...
  17. Do not stop eating gluten until you have had a Celiac panel drawn and the follow up endoscopy with biopsy. Testing is notorious for missing the diagnoses. (There is genetic testing to see if you have the "known" Celiac genes. Stll not very reliable and not always fully covered by insurance. A false negative might cause you issues with ever getting diagnosed...
  18. There is a lot of information here. Keep a food journal for the kids. There may be some other food intolerances along the way. You may find the gut has healed and other intolerances aren't an issue anymore too. Female hormones tend to excerbate auto-immune illnesses. It took 2 years on the gluten free diet for me to start feeling healthy again. My...
  19. Yup, all the F's a person can think of. Pretty f'd up huh? I started belching/burping and feeling like I was going to puke. I had a stabbing pain in the back too.
  20. I had mine out about 2 years ago. Surgery went great. 4 tiny little holes (1 hidden in my belly button), I was probably only on the operating table 10 minutes. In recovery I did feel the whole 5-6 inches and was certain I had been fully sliced. I looked and no just the 4 little slices, got some pain meds and was good to go. I feel so much better! Good...
  21. I just did a very quick look up, so I don't much about pyderma gangrenosum. It seems to be more associated with colitis and chron's. So your doctor diagnosed with Celiac without testing? Well welcome to the board and feel free to ask any question! I suggest you keep a food journal as sometimes other food sensitivities come into play. Believe it or...
  22. My opinion... When a doctor gives an Asberger's diagnoses, they should send the patient for allergy testing and start looking into diet changes. Cooking/ baking without eggs is challenging at first, but then you find some great recipes. I LOVE The allergen-free baker's handbook (how to bake without gluten, wheat, dairy, eggs, soy, peanuts, tree nuts...
  23. Interesting to hear that yoga helps! My daughter is doing well. She has not had and dysphagia. (Knock on wood) We are heading into the bad time of the airborn seasonal alergies. Always take your time for eating. No rushing rushind aroud for a quick bite.
  24. OK There is a definate explanation for UTI's gluten related ~ Constipation. The constipation can block block the full release of the bladder (pressure feeling). That can lead up to the trapped bacteria causing the UTI. For some it doesn't go away because of the gluten free diet sometimes causing constipation.
  25. What about eggs? Do you have any of the guidelines of ballbladder problems? Cake usually has mor fat in it than a cookie. Female, Forty(age is for determining toward the end of of fertile years, Fair, Where is your weight at?(with Celiac we know that weight really doesn't have anything to do with having problems or not.
