ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I called Whole Foods to see if they got any new shipments in and they tell me that their distributor can't get any product. I'd prefer that they keep the product on the site as long as they are making it and even allow you to order it, but at end tell you that there's a 30 day or whatever back order time period, and that if they do not ship after 30 days... -
ARCHIVED Life Insurance
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
I recall reading someone posting a while ago about having a problem obtaining life insurance due to celiac and just wanted to put this out there in case others were or have the same problem. So we'll put New York Life on the list too, as companies that don't have a problem underwriting celiacs for life insurance. -

ARCHIVED Nervous About Endoscopy
debmidge replied to floridanative's topic in Celiac Disease Pre-Diagnosis, Testing & Symptoms
ditto on what last poster said; and tell Dr. to put you out for procedure. My husband had it a year after celiac disease diagnosis, put it off because he was scared basically. And when he finally had it done, he said he should have done it sooner as it was nothing to be scared about. Then I gave him a "love tap" for all the aggravation he put me through... -
ARCHIVED Life Insurance

Let me preface this by saying my husband was not diagnosed celiac disease by endoscopy...by the time he went for this test he was a year gluten-free so nothing celiac showed up. He did however test strongly positive for celiac disease the year prior to the test. Last month he applied for an additional life insurance policy thru MetLife for the first... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
hmmm...my Whole Foods store on Sat. had a ton of the non-bread mixes too. I am much more concerned about the bread mixes like Favorite White Bread Mix or French Bread mix. That's a basic for my husband and I. They had a ton of pie crust mix, brownie mix, muffin mix but no bread mixes and the website don't show the above two bread mixes either.... -
ARCHIVED What Exactly Is "natural Flavoring"
debmidge replied to kathy1's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
That reminds me of the Indian woman I worked with who did not eat meat. Her Dept. ordered plain pizza from an real Italian pizzeria (not Dominos, etc.) and she wanted a slice. When I saw her she was already in the middle of eating it and I didn't have the heart to tell her that some sauces contain the drippings from the meat and that the pizza could... -

ARCHIVED 3 Years, Still No Support.
debmidge replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Would your family priest or minister be a good choice of person to talk to your family? Maybe if you can get him the info about celiac disease and the situation at home he can intervene on your behalf? Is there a celiac disease support group in your area? Perhaps your Mom would go with you to a meeting to see that celiac disease really exists and... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Nini's post described what is going on on Gluten Free Pantry's website. There is no listing for a lot of their great products. That coupled with the empty Gluten Free Pantry shelf at Whole Foods made me conclude that they are going out of business or stopped making this product. I sent them an email too and I'll report back when I get answer. ... -
Caeli I enjoyed, sincerely, your sermon. Your health issues sound like my husband's (he's the celiac, not me - at least as far as I know I'm not). He had a physical breakdown when he was 27, he's 55 now. Had seen at least 7 gastros/GP's over the past 28 years all had the same diagnosis in some form: IBS, colitis, irritable bowel, ileitus, "it's all...

ARCHIVED 3 Years, Still No Support.
debmidge replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Liz, I was kind of mulling that over myself. Sometimes, I think it can be in any culture, that parents can be jealous of the goals and successes of their children because they feel they didn't get those opportunities. I think that was what was going on in my situation -

ARCHIVED Gluten Free Pantry
debmidge posted a topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Does anyone know the status of GFP's Favorite Sandwich Bread Mix? My local Whole Foods is wiped out of gluten-free Pantry Mixes and GFP removed some mixes from their website. Ingredients: Brown rice flour, rice flour, cornstarch, potato starch, powdered skim milk, whey, brown sugar, guar gum, salt and gluten-free yeast. Looking for almost exact... -

someone in USA please correct me if I am wrong, but in USA a student could purchase, extra money needed, the insurance at college, but there are income resitrictions. If this coverage is not available thru college, then a student would have to rely on their parents health insurance coverage just like a minor would. In USA, health insurance on your... -
Caeli, Noticed you use the other spelling of celiac...where are you from? Where do you work? Do you think that you've had celiac for all those 27 years and were misdiagnosed or didn't have symptoms?

ARCHIVED How Long Did It Take To Gain Weight
debmidge replied to Moongirl's topic in Related Issues & Disorders
Husband Mike only gained 7 lbs in the last 2.25 years on gluten-free diet. His old weight was 175, then 155, then 145, then 135, lowest 128. Now back at about 135 (after breakfast of course!). He is 5' 9"- 5' 10" tall and middle aged, at least he isn't fighting middle aged paunch like his friends (look for the positive in this situation). -
Caeli You're situation is a struggle...hope you feel better soon so that you can continue with your studies. Let me say that I was raised Catholic and was educated by the Sisters of Charity circa 1960's (old guard mixed with Vatican II) so I understand importance of transubstantiation and how it differs from consubstantiation. Perhaps you can...

ARCHIVED Freeda Vitamins--anyone Try Them?
debmidge replied to jenvan's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
Jen Mike and I use the Multi Vitamins (Freeda) and I do not like large sized pills either. THe freeda aren't too bad, I can get it down without choking. With a lot of pills, I wish they'd make them smaller and I'd take 2 at a time instead of one big one. I frustrates me and I think of the elderly, a lot of them cannot take large pills (esp. women... -
ARCHIVED 2nd Month Gluten Free And Terribly Constipated
debmidge replied to Nancym's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Nancy, When having constipation trouble I use stool softeners. Where do you get the corn bran? Been looking for this for a couple of years. D. -
Jen Doing good (had operation for this in 1992); just have to make sure I avoid constipating food and take my stool softeners (ones without laxative in them). I swear by the Colace stool softeners. The Metamucil isn't enough sometimes, so I combine it with the stool softeners. I've never tried Zelnorm. Trying to get my husband to take it,...

ARCHIVED Jelly Belly Jellybeans
debmidge replied to debmidge's topic in Gluten-Free Foods, Products, Shopping & Medications
The Jelly Belly website didn't make a distinction on individual flavors not being gluten-free. It stated that their Jelly Belly jelly beans are gluten free...wouldn't that mean that all flavors then are gluten-free? Anyone who wants more info ..and to verify specific flavors...should contact this manufacturer to clear any matters up.
