  1. There's another WSJ thread that has the info on the URL.
  2. Hi All My husband is "Mr. Martin" and I am sure the WSJ editors in NYC cut some addtional info about him out as his interview with the author was about 40 minutes long. As many of you know, Mike has been plagued with other health problems over the years that stem from his misdiagnosed celiac. We were very excited to be included in this story...
  3. Ipellegr Where in Central NJ are you? I am in Union Twsp. I have the same question about Ricotta cheese.....I didn't like the texture and taste of the Sargento mozzerella cheese. Polly-o is the best, I did email them, they are owned by Kraft and follow the same labeling procedures as Kraft, but Polly o is not made by Kraft themselves, so I have...
  4. From personal experience these two causes gave me what you're talking about: 1) eliminating all starches, sugars, carbs from diet (or low carb) 2) eating a lot of canned meats like canned chicken or tuna
  5. Karen Not to get off the subject, but what's the origin of the word "loo." I know what room it refers to. Is Loo short for something else? Since it's British in origin it's not used much in states, if at all, and I was just wondering about how it got it's name. P.S. My stuff on postcards went out to you this week. Debbie
  6. Yes, I'm a dreamer as the song goes "I'm not the only one..." I long for the day when the label just says "GLUTEN FREE."
  7. Whether or not one should consume wheat/oat/barley/rye should be left up to the individual, but they should at least be exposed to the notion that gluten/wheat/oat/barley/rye can cause problems in some individuals. Many people are like I was; never knew that a grain could be a problem. Always thought it was a myth used by hyperchondriacs to...
  8. My husband is celiac, I am not; after reading Dangerous Grains I felt like I didn't think eating wheat was good for me. I don't avoid wheat entirely, but I do eat it less than ever now. I believe the authors of this book point out why wheat isn't good for anyone, not only celiacs. They back up their viewpoint with data. A few years ago if someone...
  9. Don't forget peanut butter is protein/fat with Starch. Check out the Carbs on the label. I recall when I was on Atkins that peanut butter was a no no - too high in carbs which is a starch (in some peanut butters there's either sugar or corn syrup). Years ago, when I did Atkins for first time I was reading book by James Herriot (a UK veteraniarn) and...
  10. Welcome Tinkerbell Board has been a lifesaver and everyone is a good listener. You'll be very glad you stumbled upon us. Deb
  11. That's a great thing for your boss & his wife to do. It really shows that they care and listen. The first year my husband was diagnosed with celiac disease (not me) my immediate team leader knew the diagnosis; it was October 2003 and that christmas she gave me a gift box containing (wheat) cookie mixes with cookie cutters. I appreciated the thought...
  12. When you need to get more bread crumbs, try Hol Grain gluten-free brand instead of Gillians - we like HolGrain better. But Hol Grain is hard to find in stores. You can buy them at the Hol Grain website.
  13. Hubby has celiac and only put back 5 lbs on in the two years he went gluten-free. One of the board's posters advises drinking coconut milk as it's high in calories; but hubby says he wants to gain the weight from real food. It's a real problem to keep the weight on for him too as he has a fast metabolism to begin with. I know that eating starches...
  14. I called Novartis, who makes Bufferin and Excedrin on two separate occasions and both times the Customer Service Rep told me that these products at the 325 mg dosage are gluten free. I bought Bufferin and read the lot code and expiration date to the rep and she checked it. My last call to them was on Monday 11/28/05
  15. Repeat dates: 12/4 @ 2 PM 12/26 @ 6 PM Discovery Health Channel (not regular Discovery Channel)
  16. 11/27 8PM Discovery Channel REMINDER
  17. I guess the question is what's the risk factor of cross contamination with Quaker brand Grits? Is there a brand of grits which is made by a company who specializes in gluten-free grains?
  18. Sorry about that, it does have egg; I mis read the topic and didn't realize you were all talking about eggless variety. Lactaid eggnog HAS egg in it. Just to clarify it.
  19. Q: Has anyone purchased it and downloaded it from this site? If so, how long does it take to download and store it? And, how much memory does it take up? Thanks. Deb
  20. We are on a quest for plain aspirin (Excederin has caffeine in it and other pills are not aspirin) Deb, what book is that info from?
  21. NEW Lactaid Eggnog - company told me it was gluten-free and of course it's Lactose free.
  22. Does anyone know if this is gluten-free? Does anyone use it? I see on glutenfreedrugs.com that it's not gluten-free BUT I do remember calling Bufferin and them telling me that their product is gluten-free. I want to believe glutenfreedrugs.com but who is correct? So I'd like to gather some unbiased information on this, if I could.
  23. Just learned that NEW Lactaid Eggnog is gluten free (and of course, lactose free!!)
  24. 1 in 90; wow. Now I am not looking forward to others having celiac; but if they do have it, it's best that it's out in the open now. Too bad there aren't "celiac test drives" all over each year (not just at that university hospital). Additionally, the more people diagnosed means the more manufacturers will have to come to the "table" with gluten...
  25. I am the non celiac spouse, I am female, he's a guy. No, none of this is embarrassing to me. As a matter of fact, I am a "pit bull" when it comes to requesting gluten-free or finding out if something is gluten-free. Not to say that I am more concerned than he is, but I'd rather have two skillets (gluteny and gluten-free) just to make sure that his...
