  1. Celiac.com sells corn flour made by Shiloh Farms. But, it doesn't say gluten-free. Bob's Red Mill sells it but it can't guarantee cross contamination. It doesn't say gluten-free Ener-G sells a Corn Mix but it's hard to find -- but it's gluten-free and says so on the box. I had a very, very hard time finding gluten-free corn flour, without threat...
  2. what martini ingredients are gluten-free? This is new to me.
  3. Freeda brand makes gluten-free multivitamins. We buy over website. They are in New York
  4. Concerned Chef: yes it cost those two caterers because I told my soon to be married brother with a guest list of 125 not to use them. One is a large catering facility in Union, NJ the other is a smaller hotel in Kenilworth NJ. They flat out said no, they couldn't accomodate one Gluten Free meal. What's so hard about a piece of broiled plain chicken...
  5. Olive Garden, in my opinion, is the fast food of Italian Restaurants. With that said, I can't imagine them being careful enough in the kitchen not to cross contaminate. Remember, their mainstays are pastas, breads and sauces. Perhaps you can visit them BEFORE going out to eat there and discuss celiac with a manager (not server) and review the menu choices...
  6. Anyone have any other suggestions for me?
  7. The restaurant cards are from Celiac Sprue Assoc. www.csaceliacs.org The pricing is .25 cents each card
  8. Maybe for the benefit of celiacs, all of these guides should merge under one central office. Then a separate guide could be printed for each area of the country (dividing the country into 4 areas: NW, SW, then NE, SE - the dividing line would be the middle of the country). The info on foods/products that are sold country wide would remain the same in...
  9. Tammy, what city and state are you in? Debmidge
  10. Dear Concerned Cook: I was turned down by two other caterers before I found the one who would cook one meal gluten free. They rudely told me that they couldn't do that (cook one meal gluten free) -- both of these caterers advertise as a place for weddings, so they are equivalent to the place (The Westwood) who was able to do it. In retrospect I...
  11. Hi All I am looking for a receipe using sorghum which doesn't include any bean flours, and doesn't need corn flour or yeast. If one exists.....
  12. HDS: IF YOU ARE IN AN HMO. Call your insurance company to see what labs they might have contracts with, which would keep the cost down if you are in an HMO. Then call those labs to see if they do that type of testing.
  13. Lili; Reyes syndrome is serious. Do not give children aspirin. Go to Mayo Clinic website or Web Md and look Reyes up and it'll probably tell you the full story as to what happens if child has a certain virus (and you probably wouldn't know if the child has that virus or not, so why take the chance) and has aspirin. I know a woman whose child died on...
  14. The best thing about having a concise, easy to carry paper guide (not electronic) is that you can take it to the supermarket or health food store with you. The CSA could improve it's book by making it into a a bound copy. The note book idea is good, but only if they sent you updated pages during the year, but they don't. So why shouldn't they just...
  15. Q: I heard from some source that canned milk can be tolerated as the high temperatures that they heat it at to can it destroys the part of the milk that people are sensitive/allergic/intlolerant to. Can anyone confirm this?
  16. Isn't this in margarine?
  17. Dear Concerned Cook: Thank you for taking the time to visit and discuss gluten-free meals with us. Please encourage all chefs/restaurant personnel to visit with us so that we can exchange info and ideas and come to an understanding of each other's parameters. I recently had a great experience when I held my 25th wedding anniversary at a catering place...
  18. Thanks celiac3270. I will still be looking for other brands of gluten-free aspirin as Advil and Tylenol are both aspirin free. Your mom probably doesn't give you aspirin as yet because kids under 16 can get deathly ill or it leaves them brain damaged if they use aspirin and have a certain virus. It's called Reye's Syndrome.
  19. One of them, I think it's Rice Dream, has a barley derivitive in it.
  20. red345: I'd like to participate but must find more time. Tiffany: please expand on the gut...opoids connection. Thanks, Deb
  21. Received the test results. Now my husband is sensitive/allergic/intolerant to: cows milk, yeast, egg yolk, soy, cashews, lentils, almonds, chili peppers, wheat, corn, hazelnut, brazil nut and garlic. This is in addition to gluten-free diet and in addition to not being able to digest fruits and vegetables. What's left? According to their information...
  22. When a person gets leaky gut, can they get better? Will leaky gut heal on gluten-free diet? What if person is sensitive/intolerant to corn, yeast, egg and soy, but still eats them, but remains gluten-free?
  23. Looking for advice. Does anyone know of a rice milk product that is gluten-free? I am looking for one and don't know brands. I know that the most common one is NOT gluten-free. Thanks, Deb
  24. Can anyone identify some brands of gluten-free aspirin for me? Thanks, Deb
  25. Info for York Nutritional Lab www.yorkallergyusa.com phone (888) 751-3388 Takes about 4 weeks to get the results (especially during hurricane season as they are in Florida). We used it. Results indicate on a scale between 1-4 as the level of your sensitivity. My husband is senstive to : corn, cow's milk, soy, cashew, almond, yeast, wheat, egg...
