Yeah... I'm pretty much the same on here as I am in person. I try to think of it as a good thing...just pass right over teenage behavior, lol

Absolutely...that's sometimes all you need to say

This is an excerpt from "Kosher Today"
"New Food Safety Program Linked to Kosher"
(Seattle, Wa) "A new Gluten-Free (gluten-free) certification mark on food labels will allow consumers who are medically required to eat gluten-free foods to easily identify safe food. This new independent food processing inspection program will verify that food products meet the highest standards for gluten-free ingredients and safe processing environment.
The GFCO was developed in cooperation with the Food Services, Inc., a subsidiary of the Orthodox Union (the “OU”), the world’s largest and oldest kosher certification agency. The OU’s nearly 500 field representatives, proficient in modern food production techniques and chemical and biological processes, will conduct plant inspections and product reviews for the GFCO. “Food Services, Inc. and the Orthodox Union are pleased to be included in this key development on behalf of those who for health reasons are required to be gluten-free,” declared Rabbi Menachem Genack, Chief Executive Officer of the OU. “The OU’s standard of excellence in kosher certification is recognized worldwide.
OU field inspectors are deeply familiar with modern food technology and with the intricacies of industrial food manufacturing equipment, which will be applied to their work with Food Services, Inc. We look forward to this opportunity to use our expertise on behalf of the gluten-free consumer.”
The Gluten-Free Certification Organization (GFCO), a program of the Gluten Intolerance Group (GIG), is the first program of its kind in the world. The addition of a gluten-free certification mark to a food label quickly gives the increasing number of gluten-free shoppers’ assurance that the product is safe to eat, meaning the product is free of gluten and possible cross-contamination from gluten." Product reviews include searching all ingredients back to their sources. The final step will be to test that the finished product doesn't exceed l0ppm. For more info www.gfco.org

I am 14...I will turn 15 on Jan. 21...but as of now, yes, I am 14, or to sound childish, but more precise, about 14 1/2, lol.
Ok, my experiment is complete. It took you guys about two weeks to notice that I had changed mine to be SUPER. I kinda was updating my profile thing and I accidentally stumbled across it and I thought it would be funny to make it SUPER...and also to see if anyone notices. I told Scott about it, though, and he told me to change it after so that he doesn't get people who are new changing it to advanced community member and the whole thing. So back it goes to the normal Advanced Community Member...
Oh, thanks for the compliments...

Frito-Lays does that type of thing, too. Some things (Stax, Fritos, Lays, Ruffles, etc.) made on dedicated lines, but others, such as Cheetos, are gluten-free but are made on the same lines that are cleaned after each batch.
I'll eat such foods unless I isolate them as being a problem.

Oh man! I wish my health food store would have one of those frequent shopper cards they have in all the pharmacies and grocery stores. We've actually become friends with the guy who runs one of the stores (not to mention the two-three other stores we frequent).

Yes I do, dare I ask why?

Great job! That's awesome--you're doing your body and your wallet such a service! Keep up the good work--chew all the gum you need!

Hey,
First some background. Diabetes runs in my family. Grandpa on dad's side has it, uncle on dad's side recently developed it, etc. I have celiac and a family history of it, so I am trying to be careful with my sugar, now...so I drink diet Coke, diet Pepsi, diet Sprite. Fortunately I hadn't found diet Sunkist because I read on Delphi today that Sunkist is gluten-free, DIET Sunkist is not--modified food starch. Just goes to show--they're not just switching out sugar and aspartame and you always need to be careful. I was lucky not to be accidentally contaminated in this manner. I e-mailed Sunkist today just to make sure the diet really is off limits since the poster at Delphi had only seven posts and I'm not sure how recently this was checked, etc.
Just a reminder: NEVER ASSUME.

This is a great list for Halloween candy:
Open Original Shared Link
And at the bottom, it has suggestions for dealing with non-gluten-free candy your child acquires:
OPTIONS FOR DEALING WITH CANDYTHAT DOES CONTAIN GLUTEN:
Donate it to your local food bank
Have gluten-free goodies on hand to "trade" your child for the unsafe stuff
Save it to use for making a Gingerbread house for the holidays (just for viewing, of course!)
Some dentists will accept your child’s candy and will "trade" it for some healthy options
Sort it, "buy it back" from your child, allow him/her to use that money to buy more gluten-free goodies
Sort it, separate it, toss it
Sort it, separate it, trade it with another child who can have that candy & trade for the gluten-free goodies

Sent through here...

Thanks Lisa. I will read it tonight after all the rugrats have gone to bed.....
I have been looking for a reason to quit, maybe this will work.......

You smoke? I never knew that!
Will contact celiac3270 when I can devote a while on the comp. and maybe he or someone can walk me through the down load for delf. Thanks for passing on my problems. Wish I could do that on to a palm pilot and carry it around in the grocery store. But on the other hand don't really know or care to learn what a palm pilot does. You know.."old dog, new tricks"Downloading the Delphi list? You can put it on a palm! Lots of people do. You can buy them--as low as maybe $75-99 dollars and put the Delphi list on as a text file which you can read--bring it to the store, etc. You can also store contacts, to-do lists, calendar, etc. on it (in addition to notes) and if you want, download various programs free.
If you want it on a Palm, you'll want the text file version (rather than Word) unless you get a "Pocket PC" which is a little more expensive. For the computer, Microsoft Word will do.

I can tell when the tv is on or not even with the tv black and no volume like a poster three posts ago (I think?). I hear the electric whatever or the sort of electric static that no one else in my family does.

Yeah, they could have been ghosts who like MTV.........

Is that really good, though? To be glutened 3 times? Is that a sarcastic "only" or a real one since you thought it would be more often?
-
Just try to keep a very positive outlook about celiac when you're around him. Jnkmnky is already doing that... try not to look at it as a bad thing around him, but twist it positively. If he feels that he's special for having it and gets boxes of food in the mail, gets to shop for his own food, and has his own pantry/space for only his stuff, he'll feel happier and in turn, the whole family will feel happier.
-
Yes--my celiac symptoms were constant bloating/distention, gas, diarrhea (not as bad as most here had it, but I just mean that all stools were loose), low weight and height, depression.
I always ate A LOT of wheat--I was a huge bread/starch person.

I meant the diet, but it could be either. Seven months in I didn't want to eat out, either, because I still felt just as sick. So at least a few months, maybe more if you don't feel well yet.
-
Nice to see you!! We missed you, too! Yesterday I thought to myself, "Where's Michelle?" and I almost PM'd you, but decided it was really lame that I was thinking that after two weeks or so... so I didn't.
-
You can print it! Just copy the list of 191, paste it into Word, and you can print it without the entire thread or the ads on this page.
-
I think that it's entirely understandable that you wouldn't want to eat out--I didn't either. Now I have everything under control and no gluten in my regular, everyday life. Three months in, you're still learning, cutting, etc. It is often suggested (by support groups, others) that you not eat out until you've completely healed and such. This way you'll know if you mess up and you'll feel more comfortable. I would eat out now, but not two-three months into the diet.
