  1. Umm...it would seem very stupid that they would put wheat in a chemical that goes in pools, but it's a valid question. I'm actually surprised it hasn't been raised before. I doubt that it is in the chemicals since wheat, on top of being an unnecessary component, is one of the major allergens, but hey, you never know.

I'll also monitor this topic, but I would be shocked and somewhat scared if I read that one of these chemicals isn't gluten-free :o

  2. I love the Chebe mix. I eat it for dinner at least once a week and will often have a slice as a snack when I get home from school  .

I tried the Food By George pizza the conference and it was also terrific. It is very small, though, I guess a meal for smaller children, but it's about the size of a slice and a half of pizza (but in a round shape).

The pizza at Risotteria (a restaurant in downtown NY that is mostly gluten-free) takes the cake (no pun intended  ).....

  3. A few of these (8-12) were found on the Internet, most, however, are original). I added yours to the end, so we have a complete list so far. As more suggestions come in, I'll update the list :)

You might be a celiac if...

    1. The centerpiece on your dining room table is a bread machine.

    2. Your bread looks like a moon rock and tastes like dried out Play Doh.

    3. Your bread weighs more than any moon rock could possibly weigh.

    4. The only way you will eat your bread is toasted.

    5. You've paid over $5 for a loaf of bread.

    6. You make your own pizza

    7. You visit a health food store at least twice a week.

    8. You buy most of your food on the Internet.

    9. One of your primary goals in life is to create "Fake Oreo Cookies" (and/or Cheerios)

    10. There are Garage Sale stickers on all your kitchen food containers.

    11. You have argued about and read articles about distilled vinegar and oats.

    12. You've disinherited loved ones for putting their knife in your mayo.

    13. You've ever been caught licking a discarded Twinkie wrapper.

    14. At Christmas, visions of guar gum dance in your head.

    15. You are a strictly brand name shopper

    16. You've ever had to give a doctor a crash course in Celiac 101.

    17. You weep at picnics, parties, receptions and fast food joints.

    18. You weep at breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

    19. You've ever "brown bagged it" to an elegant dinner party.

    20. You have written "contaminated" on jars of peanut butter.

    22. The customer service representatives at every company recognize your voice.

    23. You know the difference between an allergy and an intolerance...and you care.

    24. You have two of everything in your kitchen (pots, pans, wooden spoons, etc.).

    25. You are afraid of spices and in restaurants, ask for your food "naked."

    26. You are afraid of and have nightmares about bagels, pizza, and cake.

    27. You make many phone calls from the supermarket.

    28. You know what disodium phosphate, tartaric acid, and quinoa are...and care.

    30. You bring many, many lists with you to the supermarket.

    31. The first thing you do, upon reaching an unfamiliar location, is pinpoint the location of the nearest bathroom.

    33. You ordered a salad with no croutons and the entire time its being made you wish you could go back to the kitchen and watch them prepapre it but were afraid to ask.

    34. You have taken a poop at all of your friends and relatives houses, even if you just met them...

    40. You've responded to someone's post on a website about bowel problems and were brutally honest about your own "issues with bowels"

    41. You read this post and laughed because you've "been there"

Oh, just thought of a few more:

    42. People think you're on the Atkins diet

    43. You've asked for a bunless burger...and been looked at as if you have three heads.

    44. You've asked about the ingredients of shampoo

    45. You post on this board...that's not funny, though <_<

  4. It is extremely mentally and emotionally draining at first. Once we feel like we have everything under control, though, this diet works mental/emotional wonders on us. Many here had anxiety or depression before starting the diet, some even on pills for it, and are now 100% fine.

You seem to be doing very well, though, at educating yourself on this--and knowledge truly is power.

  5. It is very possible that I could be getting some gluten in my diet somewhere, I haven't researched any of my lipsticks or anything. I don't wear those very often though. What's weird is it usually only in the morning.

celiac3270-If you don't mind me asking, what was your surgery for?

Malrotated intestines--but that's a problem that's usually caught in infancy--they took 14 years to find that I had it. It's pretty rare, also, and I don't think that the nausea was related to the malrotation. I don't know what it was from--all I know is that it's gone now and that's all that matters :)

Sure--lipstick/chapstick/anything that goes on your lips should be checked. Some of it will always get in your mouth and if it isn't gluten-free, it'll cause intestinal damage, and perhaps symptoms.

  6. You've come to the right place :).

A few of your mom's symptoms sound like classic untreated celiac. Osteoporosis is very likely if celiac is left untreated (due to malnutrition), other problems with the digestive organs or system are nearly imminent....cancer is more likely, but I think that's limited to intestinal cancers...

Not that you need any reassurance, but you definitely seem celiac. Symptoms match up (though there is no set of "normal" symptoms) and the two genes that you look for, I think, are the HLA-DQ2 and the HLA-DQ8. I haven't done much research on this, but you have the DQ8, so that makes you an even more likely celiac.

You won't have permanent damage from gluten. Some people here have had symptoms since childhood and are now in their 30s, 40s, or 50s.

Good luck and you're not alone! Post any questions you have :)

  7. I guess the fact that she had celiac disease, characterized by gastrointestinal symptoms, such as diarrhea, boosts their case....this is a child who has a problem with loose stools and the such, and then the teacher was insensitive to the condition, not to mention being generally out of line in asking any five-year-old to do that.

  8. This is bigger news than the typical celiac articles that I'm putting in the other thread, so I made a new one for this. The Gluten Free Pantry and Glutino are...well, just read the letter  :

    Dear Friends and Valued Customers,

I want to share some very exciting news with you. The Gluten-Free

Pantry (Glastonbury, CT) and Glutino (Montreal, Canada) have joined

forces. Our combined resources will help both companies to better

meet the needs of the celiac community.

The changes you will see are only positive: enhanced product lines

and customer service and the ability to develop a wider range of

selections in the future. Very soon those of you who order Glutino

from Canada will be able to order those great items through GFP,

thus skipping any of the customs delays of the past. Conversely, our

Canadian customers will be able to order Gluten-Free Pantry products

in Canada, saving customs charges and border hassles.

Some of the expanded offerings at GFP will include the complete line

of Bi-Aglut, Dr. Schar, and all of Glutino's frozen breads, rolls,

    pizza crust, bagels and more.

Gluten-Free Pantry will remain in Glastonbury and Beth Hillson will

continue to manage the company. And, of course, all of our friendly

customer service staff will remain as well.

We are very excited about this merger and look forward to continuing

    to serve your needs.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us at

    Gluten-Free Pantry 1-800-291-8386 or Glutino 1-800-363-DIET. (The
