  1. Just try to keep a very positive outlook about celiac when you're around him. Jnkmnky is already doing that... try not to look at it as a bad thing around him, but twist it positively. If he feels that he's special for having it and gets boxes of food in the mail, gets to shop for his own food, and has his own pantry/space for only his stuff, he'll feel...
  2. Yes--my celiac symptoms were constant bloating/distention, gas, diarrhea (not as bad as most here had it, but I just mean that all stools were loose), low weight and height, depression. I always ate A LOT of wheat--I was a huge bread/starch person. -celiac3270
  3. I meant the diet, but it could be either. Seven months in I didn't want to eat out, either, because I still felt just as sick. So at least a few months, maybe more if you don't feel well yet.
  4. Nice to see you!! We missed you, too! Yesterday I thought to myself, "Where's Michelle?" and I almost PM'd you, but decided it was really lame that I was thinking that after two weeks or so... so I didn't.
  5. You can print it! Just copy the list of 191, paste it into Word, and you can print it without the entire thread or the ads on this page.
  6. I think that it's entirely understandable that you wouldn't want to eat out--I didn't either. Now I have everything under control and no gluten in my regular, everyday life. Three months in, you're still learning, cutting, etc. It is often suggested (by support groups, others) that you not eat out until you've completely healed and such. This way you...
  7. Could be, but I still think that he's holding the hammer, but the stick figure wasn't very carefully drawn, so they look separated. Unless the hammer is falling from the sky...?
  8. I tried Deboles before I got to Tinkyada and thought it was "pretty good" at the time. Actually, I was a little hesitant to try Tinkyada just because of that. I did and Tinkyada is awesome...so much better and even, I feel, better than the real wheat pasta. Try it...for me, Deboles was about twenty cents MORE expensive than Tinkyada.
  9. Dextrin can be okay...it can be made from corn, as in Starburst candies. It can also be made of wheat, but it often okay. Malt is nearly always bad, but in EXTREMELY RARE circumstances, can be ok.
  10. Haha...that's awesome! At first I was confused, then I remembered that you don't live here, so you wouldn't have tried it b4. Nice!
  11. San Francisco--in US--perfect. Fruity Pebbles or Cocoa Pebbles by Post...not, perhaps, ideal as a cereal, but certainly readily available and gluten-free.
  12. It would just mean that you wouldn't have to explain it to someone, but why would you want to limit yourself to celiacs? And dating another celiac, you might have too much in common?
  13. How is the CSA list organized? Just for reference of those who don't have the list, here's an example of the Delphi list. The vw in the first ones stands for verified on the website. They have: ve = verified by email, vs = verified by snail-mail, vp = verified by phone call, vw = website includes gluten-free list, vpkg = package states gluten free, vf...
  14. They haven't specifically approved of it, but the CSA seems to think that you can write it off.... I'm not sure about this--I've read about this all over, but I don't know if you really can do it...not to mention that if you really think of all the work involved, it probably isn't worth it. Save all the receipts, get doctor notes, calculate the differences...
  15. No...nobody would allow for that (Palm)--and the lists that one might buy are not considered "essential." I don't use lists either...I know which companies clearly list and obviously, which ingredients are forbidden, questionable, safe. You would definitely need an official doctor's diagnosis of Celiac disease...you surely cannot claim food expenses if...
  16. Regular members cannot delete posts...but if you put it in the wrong place, don't make a new one, just add a reply asking a moderator to move it or use the report button to explain it. No problem...
  17. Absolutely. And if you can afford to live in NY, you're not likely to have such a salary . I'm not sure if you can include medical bills, though, in which case you might have a fair amount (particularly if you don't have insurance and you had a bad year medically). Oh, and just for anybody who might do this, look into it, because I've read that you can...
  18. Absolutely. If the total difference between your gluten-free food and the regular alternatives is at least 7.5% of your annual income, you can get a deduction for celiac. You have to save your receipts, though. Read more here: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-27105204952.ca
  19. Oh yeah...I would never trust Burger King cause you find onion rings in basically every order--McDonalds is the safest of the fast food joints.
  20. https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-08105282744.94 If the total difference between the normal food and your gluten-free food exceeds 7.5% of your salary, you can get a deduction. Read at the link above.
  21. For the safe/forbidden ingredients lists, go here: https://www.celiac.com/st_main.html?p_catid...-30105116344.41 For the 79-page food list, e-mail me . I've been distributing it--there's a post called Delphi Lists or something under the products section...either add your name there, or preferably, send me an e-mail with the e-mail button thingy below...
  22. Of course! It's just that you see that mainly with avatars from the gallery--the chances of someone else deciding to use your hammer man are very slim, but it would be allowed and possible.
  23. In my opinion, the best list on the web for gluten-free foods is the Delphi Forums one, which can be downloaded by following these steps: 1) Go to the website, Open Original Shared Link 2) Click on "messages" or "start reading" 3) Select the folder "gluten-free Product List" 4) Click on the topic called "Downloadable files word" 5) Of the four options...
  24. Be careful about explaining it...to someone of any age it can be scary to know what will actually go on...try not to tell him what goes on technically, but just that he'll be going to the hospital and the doctors will make him go to sleep and then they'll do a test to make sure he's ingesting no gluten (is that way the endo??) and then he'll wake up and go...
