ARCHIVED So Jerry Is Very Frustrated....
miles2go replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Yeesh, yes, gfp, the first one was about pizza and the next three or four were about cheeseburgers, specifically. And I'm not wont to recurring dreams, usually. Is this gene-testing worthy? I am happy, happy with my gluten-free cheeseburgers! Margaret -
ARCHIVED Has Anyone Been This Stupid ?
miles2go replied to georgie's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh yeah, gluten-free household, assiduous about taping envelopes at work, wrote the check at home and licked the envelope. Luckily it wasn't all that bad. I've done plenty of other stupid things that involved trusting others in regards to keeping things gluten-free, but that one made me feel particularly stupid. And it's not, as people have said, it's... -
Hi Jerry, you're not going to like my answer, but I may have some salvation for you at the end of this post. I ran out and bought Bette Hagman's The Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread just as soon as knew that I'd have to go gluten-free. I had a bread machine and although it was a little confusing at first, it became relatively easy over time. Now I don't...

ARCHIVED Food For My Neice!
miles2go replied to Adelle's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Crockpot gluten-free mac 'n cheese! Let me know if you need a recipe, I think there're some on the web. Margaret I'll try to think of some others, too. -
Hi Maeve and Joan, I'm also in the Bangor area and attended one of those celiac support meetings. I think I'm more of an online kind-o-person, but could probably be convinced otherwise to meet y'all. Maeve, have you tried any of the Winterport Winery's wines yet? They are really good and I used to be a beer drinker. I'm gearing up to start my...

ARCHIVED So Jerry Is Very Frustrated....
miles2go replied to JerryK's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Oh, deep divisions, here. Real men don't do HMO's; they bake their own pizzas and brew their own beer. Of course, that's the right coast talking and I'm originally from Texas/NOLA, so what do I know? I kid, I kid...whatever works best for you and your loved ones. It's not like any(regular)one is actually noticing that your going gluten-free unless... -
ARCHIVED Need Help With A Recipe
miles2go replied to Guhlia's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Angie, Your avatar is making my mouth water...I made hush puppies just a few weeks back, using Bette Hagman's gluten-free flour mix. I thought they were a little bit denser than I remembered, but they were righteously tasty and my gluteny coworker has been pining for them since. I used my new deep fryer at 375* for what it's worth and the recipe from... -

Heehee, I know a lot of men who love to cook, but...I don't always like to cook myself, although my friends tell me that I'm the goddess of cooking or something and why am I not in that field? I do live to eat, even after a half-fast dx, so here's my best tips for ya'. You can cook on one weekend day and have enough foods in the freezer for a month or more... -

My mom does this kind of thing to my pre-diabetic dad every day. I live alone and so don't have this kind of torture. Tell your sweetie to box it....nicely... -
ARCHIVED Looking For A Casserole Recipie
miles2go replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Oh, good call. You can swing it sweet or savory, too. Margaret, still reeling from the Clinton thread in Publications... -
Heehee, I miss Bill, too. Imagine if he were reading our forum and had an equally goofy online name like miles2go? I mean, he's a person too, right?, that might just need a little help in the wheat/gluten department? I still haven't heard back and tomorrow is booked solid, so I'll try and resend my original email on Wednesday, with apologies for any...

Hi Ash, If I'm remembering correctly, you can give blood at your local Red Cross anytime, whether or not they're having a blood drive, but I'm not a donor, so I could be wrong. Remember that snack whether you're giving or not; I've been on a cheeseburger kick these last few weeks and it is all about the goodness. I can't recall if you can eat dairy...

ARCHIVED Looking For A Casserole Recipie
miles2go replied to missy'smom's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Honestly, the only thing that I can think of off the top of my head is a gratin, or a mac 'n cheese casserole with the bread crumbs on top. Were you thinking of something where the breadcrumbs were more incorporated? I've got lots of cookbooks I'd be more than happy to peruse for you, if you could give more of an idea of what you're looking for. And let... -
>Dear lm, crackers, cookies, things such as that. So what would you bring? Maybe a muffin, some gluten-free poker chips? Fruit? >Hi, I know this quote isn't going to work right... I would bring a ginormous gluten-free cheeseburger and smile big while the grease dripped down to my elbows. That and all of the above. Bests backatcha...

Hi Zansu, I just used the warm water and salt...what's the baking soda for? Jerseyangel, thanks again. I never would have tried it, but for you. Yay! Margaret

Geez, Georgie, that is quite a mess. I am so sorry, I wish I could FedEx some food to you as I've always been one who is prepared for the holocaust. Depression baby parents and all... Tomorrow is probably not a holiday, right? Can you get hold of some fruit, veggies and maybe some eggs before your big shopping trip? We are having the daylight savings...

I am such an idiot. After two rounds of sinus infection and more antibiotics than I care to think about, I tried the neti pot today, thanks to (I think) JerseyAngel and Tarnalberry in support with the mist suggestion. It's a world of difference. One side needs more, but that's all I'll say other than thank you so much! I'm a believer...

I have total addiction to Mary's Gone Crackers and at $4 something a box am going to try and adapt this recipe from Duguid and Alford's Flatbread's & Flavors recipe: 3 c. flour or more as necessary 1 t. salt 1 1/2 c. warm water (Insert brown rice flour, quinoa flour, whole flax seeds and sesame seeds here) Place the flour and salt in a food processor...

I just wrote a letter to him through the Clinton Foundation and asked if he'd consider being a spokesperson. Of course, I might have to resend on Monday because I'm at home on the dino computer and don't know if the email was actually delivered. Will post with any response that I get and Nancy, thanks for the link, I'll definitely check that out! Margaret

ARCHIVED Whole Buckwheat Recipes
miles2go replied to nama shivaya's topic in Gluten-Free Recipes & Cooking Tips
Hi Nama, It may well be an acquired taste. I remember the first time I tried it so long ago, I thought it was a little strange too, but then I was served it another time by someone else who was cooking and I realized that I loved it. So...fwiw, here's the recipe that I use when making kasha at home. It's from my tattered The Vegetarian Epicure by Anna... -
