  1. The prospect of a rotation diet can be intimidating at first, mostly because there are so many out there, but it doesn’t have to be that or expensive, particularly for our demographic that relies on whole foods so much. Once you decide on one to try, it’s really easy and can be fun. I’m a single person and even with the freezer and dehydrating food as lo...
  2. Hi all, I've been gluten-free since January 2006, except for a very few instances of cc. I was gluten light before that for about 8 years without ever having suspected celiac as a problem. I was diagnosed with multiple/severe allergies, including wheat and incompletely/inconclusively blood tested for immunoglobulins and anti-gliadin in September 20...
  3. My mom told it to me best. YOU are your primary health-care provider. Everyone else is secondary. Glad you got to Germany for treatment, Ursa.
  4. Cool beans. Welcome JudyRN! How did you come to be tested? There's a lot of people out here who want their family members to do the same... *no pressure* Just enjoy the site for a while, Margaret
  5. Hi Janet, I'm a highly atopic individual with what seems to be celiac as well. The allergies are pretty well documented whereas the celiac was determined largely through dietary response as I'd been gluten-light for so many years beforehand and now my doctors are claiming that the high levels of atopy are what led to my celiac condition. I don't have...
  6. Oh, cool! Did you figure out whether the dominant or non-dominant hand was supposed to be over the heart? I want to do it again for some other things and when I was trying it last night, I was having carpal tunnel issues, so really didn't know. It does seem to set a nice starting point without going into that whole gut-wrenching issue.
  7. Okay, I do agree... If you can take care of it with your RA's/RD's in quick order, absolutely. If it takes you months-years to go through the proper channels, then no...no...cross them off quickly. Food is good. I've seen too many folks caught up in too much time to be patient about this. Margaret
  8. I'm guessing that you're at college, from the roommate and cooking restrictions that you describe and if that's the case, I'd be thomping on the door of the Equal Opportunity Employer office, if you have one on campus. They should definitely be able to help you out in some way and if you don't have such an office on campus, head to the President's office...
  9. Also, if you're having an allergic reaction related to food, chances are good that you're having an allergic reaction to environmental factors as well, and so...if your body is dealing with the ragweed/goldenrod/mold/whatever's out there at this time of year, it probably just goes into overdrive when a food allergen is introduced to top it off. So maybe...
  10. Oh, but you found us and we've all been through so much, nobody really cares about spelling, I think. Welcome to the boards, dark wolf and shp2drp57! I have pain in joints, muscles, intestines, the ball of my foot sometimes - it comes and goes. And yep, sometime the pain is all in my head. Tell that to your doc. It's called a headache. Margaret
  11. I learned this while hiking the AT and it seemed to help. If you take loads of B-complex until you hit the point where you smell like a cereal box, around two weeks, the mosquitoes will not be liking you so much. That said, I do have a couple of actinic keratosis from prior to that.
  12. 1. Breathe. 2. You're in a safe place with this website. 3. Grieve your former diet, it's a learning curve and after a while it will become second nature. 4. Everyone will think you are weird, but you don't have to tell them if you don't want to. 5. The kids won't even notice. 6. There's this cool book called the "The Ultimate UnCheese Cookbook...
  13. Hi Walter, I remember your posts, you're the teacher, right? Are you exercising? Going on healthy walks at lunchtime instead of something else? Endorphins can be a wonderful thing. Your subject header tells me that you're maybe on the upside... You have family, you've just got to recognize us. {{{hugs}}} Margaret
  14. Sorry, it's Ellsworth and not goldenrod, it'sa ragweed! Yecch! Yearning for January in a strange kind of way. Margaret
  15. Agreed. Could probably clock you around Ellwsorth, ME.
  16. Mine did too, but it came back. I remember being at the store almost buying the Rogaine right before dx and now I can't help but *thinking things* with the coworkers who have thinning hair/round bald patches issues. I don't mind telling my situation, people ask questions and then don't do anything about it. It's your life... :\ Margaret
  17. Thanks much for the great suggestions, gfgypsyqueen and ravenwoodglass. I'm in touch with the drug company on a monthly basis so, that's no problem and I appreciate the reminder regarding the generics and I'll call my HR peeps about the insurance limits, too. On a side note, mini-trip report, I was at the American Folk Festival in Bangor last night wearing...
  18. Ancient...Windows95...platform...attacking...me... *apologies to the mods, I tried to edit* Martha, Aren't supportive co-workers wonderful? So many of us spend more time with them than we do with our own families and I know how you're feeling. Happy Birthday! Margaret ...
  19. Hi all, Does anyone have suggestions for me for a med that I have that costs an ungodly amount of money to my insurance company every year ~$100,000/year, last time I checked? I have a $1,000,000 lifetime, so will probably be running into my limit in less than 8 years. Its patent is running out soon, but I'm wondering if I'll just be out of luck, come...
  20. Geez Jin, sorry you are having so much trouble. {{{big hug}}} It's great that Janet could hook you up with the RN, who sounds like help. My only contribution is that you should realize that college can and will wait for you, if you want. They are a business, they want your money and you obviously have the intellect to go back to it anytime. You've probably...
  21. Hi townfather, I don't know if gaining weight is common or not on the gluten-free diet. I've seen posts going either which way on this issue and I'm one of those thin people, who finds it more easy to lose than to gain weight. I'm 48 and am still this way, also had my blood pressure drop quite a bit after going gluten-free, and it was perfectly fine before...
  22. Heeheeheeheee...oh so many jokes in my head, thanks for the laugh. Anyone know if Michael Moore is a celiac?
  23. I found it and it's on! A quick Google shows that it's from the University of Maryland's Center For Celiac Research. I love the barefoot imprints on it and also your avatar, that's one long-legged kitty and some beeeyutiful colors. Keep us posted - I think I'd bring my own contrast with me (not quite sure what that is, but heck, I don't trust too many...
