underwater wheat I just love this phrase. -
It's all green and I don't have to use the lo-fi version anymore. Thanks, Scott!

ARCHIVED For People With Roommates...help
miles2go replied to num1habsfan's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Boy, you sure have my sympathies. I've been through the hellish roomies and can't walk down the bread aisle of the grocery store without holding my nose. The only cure is to find roommates that are considerate or have none at all, move away from that burning stubble and start enjoying life! Midterms can be made up or retaken, you have a good medical excuse... -
ARCHIVED Help! Desperately Seeking Advice And Support!
miles2go replied to tgrand's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Lol, what's a Thanksgiving without a good dysfunctional family dialectic, anyway? I'm doing a gluten-free turkey pie, squash and some other sides for my parents on T-Day and then on Saturday, the whole family is showing up for the full-fledged meal. I've been appointed the Gluten-free pumpkin pie and the Gluten-free pie crust for the pecan pie, but I've... -
ARCHIVED When To Get Another Endoscopy?
miles2go replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Ah, I can see why you'd want another one - I know I would if I were in your shoes. Maybe after the holidays when the busy schedules settle down a bit? Best of luck, hope it's good results and let us know! Margaret -
ARCHIVED Going To Texas Roadhouse For Dinner
miles2go replied to mama2's topic in Gluten-Free Restaurants
Really, they've done away with the gluten-free menu? Hmmm... well anyway, when I went there quite a number of months ago, I seem to remember to stay away from their grilling sauce! And this is a lesson that I so need to learn in other food establishments, but that's another story. If you ask for your meat cooked plain and on a clean section of the grill... -
ARCHIVED When To Get Another Endoscopy?
miles2go replied to jkmunchkin's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Jillian, I'm a little confused, so forgive me, but is refractory sprue a concern? If so, I'd think that if you're still feeling bad, maybe give it a few more months before an endoscopy, but if you're feeling better, maybe you don't need another endoscopy? I've never been conclusively dx'd except by my own body and had an endoscopy just recently that... -
ARCHIVED Gluten Free Sometimes Makes Me Feel Even Worse
miles2go replied to Walter S's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Walter, Good to hear from you. Everyone's given you great advice already, so I'll just add a $.02 worth. I'm one of those people that needs to be entertained by my food and can go through various "diets" while being gluten- and allergy-free at the same time. One year, I ate foods from a different region of the world for a week. Sometimes it would... -
Hey, thanks! Should probably change it once in a while.

Hi newceliac, Sorry you're having such a hard time with no support. It can take up to a few years to get back to feeling better. You've found a safe place here...welcome! Everyone will give you the support and info that you need, but it's going to take some time and a kind of ridiculously steep learning curve, but after a while, it'll be like second...

A big part of that is the relative lack of research in the field of so many patients presenting with such a variety of symptoms. That said, I'm one who comes down on the side of finding a good doctor to treat those ailments that aren't celiac-related, but even if you can't, be knowledgable enough about the condition so that you can maintain your own health...

I also have to say that my primary is also one who seems open to my 'listening to what my body says' so, i guess i've been luckier than most. I've accepted the fact that i don't require a 'professional' diagnosis, however, the day that i get one in my hand, i am gonna wave it like a flag and run crazy saying "i told you so!!!" to everyone who was skeptical...

Hi Lisa and everybody else, I didn't realize that this thread was still alive. What I like about the rotation diet is that it helps target food families very quickly. For instance, I don't have any problems with any citrus fruits, but the pome family is one where I have to avoid pears, but can eat apples just fine. It's easy to expand on this if you...

ARCHIVED She's Still Saying I Need A Colonoscopy!
miles2go replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Doctors
Why wouldn't you have a scope done? -
My dentist's wife is a veterinarian.

Sorry about your root canal! I've only been glutened at the dentist once and it was from the paste that the hygienist was using to polish my teeth. I've never had a problem with anything since; my dentist's office is very aware of my problem now and everything's fine, but...and this may sound cynical as all heck, they might not know anything's wrong until...

ARCHIVED She's Still Saying I Need A Colonoscopy!
miles2go replied to TrillumHunter's topic in Doctors
Hi TrillumHunter, I don't know your age or insurance status and like everyone else here, have been through the slew of doctors who don't know very much at all about celiac, but I've had a few who did. Celiacs are at a higher risk for lymphoma in the intestinal tract and for that reason alone, I wish you'd reconsider. Certainly an endoscopy is in order... -
Ooops, found all I needed in the Doctors section, where I prolly should have posted in the first place. In the words of the great Roseanne Rosannadanna... *never mind*

Hi Lisa, If you don't mind driving a bit, I would recommend Dirk Vandersloot in Rockland. He's an M.D. who has become a homeopathic consultant and helped me a lot quite a few years back. You're making me want to go back and see him He's at The Center for Health & Healing, 17 Masonic St., Rockland, ME 04841, (207) 596-0991. I didn't see him for...

I feel a bit Aristotelian (NOT my favorite philosopher, btw) in my response here, but your body is telling you that it isn't happy with what your head decided. Do not fear, your body will eventually catch up to what your head decided. In the meantime, as the middle child between two brothers, I can tell you that TORTURE of anyone who crosses paths with...

Hi all, Had my endoscopy/colonoscopy on Monday and am awaiting biopsies on the one polyp and the test for celiac, which seems a little ironic after almost two years of being gluten-free. I'm not absorbing iron and so my PCP wanted me in for what I imagined was the worst, or course. Even though awakening during the colonoscopy to what was about 20 seconds...

ARCHIVED Stories That Make You Smile
miles2go replied to Lissa's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
Hi Lissa, That's a great story. My boss is the second (third?) cousin of the gubner of the state of Maine, a vegetarian and always very thoughtful about my diet when it comes to meetings and holiday celebrations. She even gave me a recipe for peanut butter cookies that were gluten-free that she had brought for an occasion. She has missed the mark once... -
ARCHIVED Worrys About The Future.
miles2go replied to goldyjlox's topic in Coping with Celiac Disease
I remember being afraid of eating on the road or on the trail and it wasn't a nice feeling, but it does get better over time. Things that you used to eat can easily be translated to gluten-free; there are a whole host of crackers, breads and cereals out there that weren't a few years back. I think most of us have gravitated to the Paleo diet over time... -
Hi all, rotation and elimination diets are two very different things, but get at the root of the problem in different ways. I've done both and would recommend both. I started with a rotation diet, wherein you can eat anything from each of the respective days and take note of which days you feel better. For me, it was Day 2 and Day 3, when I wasn't eating...
