  1. The following may explain why we have issues with movie popcorn - esp considering the number who have multiple food allergies/intolerances! None of it is even related to real butter! I searched and found a site selling commercial products for movie theaters. The "butter" products sold for movie popcorn - was artificial butter, butter flavored oils and...
  2. my kids have nausea after movie popcorn so I stopped getting it at the theatre. I get a bag of plain chips pr somethign like that for them,or we stop before or after the movie for snacks. I think cc is an issue on the prep of everything as so many hands preparing stuff for everyone in line
  3. I do have the address for Splitt, making it into Calgary can be challenge some days
  4. from theIr website: *may want to call and make sure they havent moved or something!
  5. I am always amazed that we can find out answers, when a rheumatologist says " I dont know why its positive". The answers I find are on medical sites! Here are answers to most of the questions that arose on the thread - I hope:
  6. IgE antibody is related to inhaled allergens and skin reactions...usually asthma and something called atopy.
  7. Alas I will never know - I worked at an emergency clinic then...the call came in at 8pm on a Friday (skunks come out in early evening). The wedding was the next day.... at my end I picked up the phone and all I could hear was loud voices yellling - GET HIM OUT! Then someone explained what happened. I told them to open windows, air out the dress and short...
  8. Are they adventurous? What about a hot air balloon ride? - I think some companies offer champagne flights etc. depends how much $$ you have budgeted. memorable, one of a kind gift. - you get them the certificate and they book it when its convenient Be there and take pictures of them taking off etc...
  9. THANK YOU, never thought about that! I will definitely look at that possibility. The one dairy she loves is ice cream but the health unit nure I talked to (who is celiac along with her 2 kids) said there are good soy ice cream products out there. Are there any tests for casein allergey vs lactose intolerance?
  10. I believe that the results would be negative for antigliadin after gluten-free for that long. B12 deficiency is common in older persons and those with autoimmune disorders of any kind. You get neuropathy from low B12, also can be klutzy, and very tired
  11. oK, now I have to back peddle - there may NOT have been cc! It seems my dd may be have lactose intolerance and the big glass of milk she had with dinner could be the culprit. She continued with GI symptoms off and on since that day, and eliminating dairy solved it.
  12. So sorry to hear of the disaster - after bringing it out, painting again and then wham - disaster strikes. Yikes! Maybe its way of Annie saying - arent ya glad I'm feeling better? I think it wasnt that long ago when Annie was very sick. Get a slurpee kiss from her and be glad she didnt pee on it too! If another story or 2 makes you feel better than...
  13. As you can tell from my signature - we have lots going on in our family. I posted a few weeks back thinking dd had been cc'd at a Calgary restaurant. She had diarrhea, nausea, stomach ache.... then it continued off an on since then, she missed a couple days of school, she's been feeling crappy, then in few hours, it passes and she's better. I have been...
  14. There is a Nutters in Okotoks too, they recently expanded their selection of gluten-free food. They carry the kinnickinnick brand muffins, dry mixes, and cinamon buns plus the pastato mac and cheese - my kids love that as a treat. We do have TerraCotto in Nanton but ds loves the cinnamon buns and dd loves the pizza crusts from kinnickinnick - I can never...
  15. I am excited for you! We celebrated when Kathryn made it back on the growth chart too - she was stuck at 36 inches for a year and fell below zero before we had "stat" referral to endocrinologist. It was her thyroid at that time(1996). She was at the top of the scale for weight when diagnosed celiac in 2004 (not thin like the books say), she has slimmed...
  16. Both kids had the endoscopy and I have assisted with its use in veterinary medicine. It [an endoscope] is a flexible tube with a camera (uses fiberoptics), it is passed down the esophagus and into the stomach where samples can be taken at "antrum" [area near the inlet to the small intestine] and then it is passed further ino the small intestine where samples...
  17. There is an article about testing/interpreting test results on this site see: https://www.celiac.com/st_prod.html?p_prodi...-25106195269.c4 Did it just say IgA or IgA anti-gliadin antibodies or IgA class anti-endomysial antibodies ? The last one is the most specific for celiac. You can copy the article and bring it to your doctor and find out which...
  18. It will get better and if you are celiac and go gluten-free - your mood will improve too. Dramatic change in my daughter - from moody, crying and tired to : happy, giggling and energetic after gluten-free. Please visit the baord often - no question is too silly! For now - stick with naturally gluten-free - rice, potatoes, unprocessed meat, fruit...
  19. Taking either the wafer or the wine (Body or Blood), is condisdered receiving Communion in full. If you want to receive Communion - take the gluten-free option of wine prepared in a separate chalice. This is an acceptable and easy solution. Many still think that to receive Communion, you must receive the wafer, this is not so.
  20. Symptoms for celiac are extensive and yes they can mimic other diseases, food allergies and intolerances. You can be gluten intolerant and/or have lactose intolerance, or food allergies that would create malabsorbtion. Each lab has its own set of normal values - it varies from lab to lab depending on the type of test and equipment used. My daughter...
  21. For any that are interested - I found these articles. The problem with apple juice is the sorbitol.
  22. A tidbit of info re:yeast Men can harbour yeast and re-infect their partner. It is more common in uncircumcised males - simply because the foreskin provides a place for bacteria and yeast to live. Yeast and bacteria are part of the "normal flora" that live along the outer reproductive tract. When the balance is disrupted by illness, hormones out of whack...
  23. I agree with the suggestions for counselling - it can be safe place to vent for both parties and it can get to the bigger issues and help with working them through. I am the chronic illness half of my marriage - worst thing dh has to deal with is getting stepped on by cows/horse and using Flonase once a day. I was wiped out for months before they found...
  24. Welcome - you are not alone - the cluster is in myself and my two kids. You are not alone, it is frustrating and depressing at times. my son and I developed a way to deal with bad days - injections that hurt? the needle must DIE - he smashes it into concrete or darts it into a cork board we made When diagnosed with celiac he wanted me to rent...
  25. I am glad more people are aware of the grape issue with dogs. They can develop kidney failure because of grapes. Onions affect their red blood cells, and chocolate acts like poison - vomiting, diarrhea and seizures. Good snack options would be bits of cheese, meatballs - you can make tiny meatballs and store them in the freezer or cook up the ground...
