  1. Maybe I missed it, but have you yourself been tested? Just to cover all the bases? I did not start showing symptoms until last year. Just a thought. But I can see why you say he should also be tested.
  2. If you're worried about cross contamination, you can try to call the manufacturer and oreder a new pan. It's probably cheaper than getting a whole new machine since there is one being goven to you. You can also try to clean it and roll the dice, but htat may not be the safest option. I have not had any bad experiences with cc ona bread machine, but I...
  3. It's not specific to the food industry. Recently, I had a response from ORAL B that told me the product I was asking about was gluten free, but they could not tell me that the ingredients were gluten free. Oh...okay.
  4. I know there are a few threads on bread machines, but here goes, I have a cuisanart bread machine, and we love it. IT does cut down on the cost, and it makes a pretty decent loaf. It is one of the rare machines with a gluten free setting, but as you may readf in other threads, it is not necessary to have. Some think it burns all the bread, so they use...
  5. We've been playing around with all of the mixes from the books you mentioned, and have found they of course work VERY well in her recipies, but the jury is still out on our old recipies. I'll let you know. I have heard there is a fliur mix we can by at the helath food store that can be substituted cup-for-cup for regular flour, but have not been able to...
  6. Coffee is just good any time, but I LOVE a good cup after my meal. I did not know about the digestion thing, but that only makes it better. Not only does it wake us up in the morning, but it also helps us digest food. You learn something new every day!
  7. That answer does not make any sense. I can't imagine they would label something else as wheat. You can always try to call back, or email them and see what happens.
  8. I've read most of it, and I love it! My son wants to read it when I'm done as he is having a hard time understanding what it is I'm going through. I think that's awesome.
  9. We have not had cc issues with ours, but I make sure ( as I am the one to do the dishes) that it is immaculate when it is done. Also, since the dx, we ONLY use it to make gluten-free bread. The kids are the only ones who eat "normal" bread and we just buy it from the store for them.
  10. I've never had a problem with mine, but we'll kepe an eye on it. I was not aware it did that, as we can get exactly the same loaf from the oven as the breadmaker. I will agree however that it does not mox so good as the paddle is quite small. (all of the above IMHO)
  11. We have a cuisanart bread machine. IT does have a gluten free setting on it, but I don't think it's necessary. My wife has also made some gluten-free breads w/o the machine, and they turn out fine. I think the machine is faster, but not necessary.
  12. Um....wow!! I LOVE pizza as well, and I can not imagine how you felt. I don't blame you for begin upset. I think that for next year, suggest a menu change, or tell your DH how you felt so he can help bring some understanding to family. Hope you feel better soon.
  13. The best book we could find was "The GLuten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread". It is AWESOEME! They all work in a bread machine or from scratch.
  14. I would have to agree. The recovery can be tough, and working at subway can make that even tougher. There is a thread here about how we all hate pizza hut and subway just because of their commercials. I can't imagine working there after being told I had celiac disease. Not trying to rant. Sorry. I hope she feels better soon, and unless she really...
  15. Lisa, How on earth can I get Gluten free beer here in Mj? Do I have to go to Regina to get it or can my local liquor board store get it in for me? WHich one is it? THanks, Ryan
  16. I have to agree with the dependance thing. If you NEED to drink, then that would lead me to believe you have a true issue with the alcohol. I am rooting and praying for all of you who are struggling with this, and hope you find the answers you need. I beat this and smoking through sheer strength of will as I had no real support network at the time...
  17. I'm 6 weeks into receovery, and you can tell her it gets better every day. I have "glutened" myself by accident twice, but it's not the end of the world. I am glad you are doing your research though. Support from family and friends can be very important in teh beginning. It's not the end of theo wold, and IMHO, a vegitarian would have an easier time...
  18. I'd like to know what you all think. I was recently at the dentist, and we were discussing the implications of celiac disease and certain dental care products. The hygenist was using Oral B Prophy Paste, and some flouride from the same company. Since we caould not determine if they were gluten-free, she used ultra sound to clean my teeth and we left...
  19. Being fairly new to this myself, I glutened myself a couple times. It gets easier, and it has taught me the importance of reading labels. I hope your presentation went well. It does get easier with time. Promise.
  20. First of all, I would like to thank and commend you on behalf of all of us, for doing your research before entertaining your SIL for a meal. Well done!! I wish there I had relatives that would take the time. I can only restate what has already been posted, so I won't take up too much time. I hope your meal goes well, and you all have a great...
  21. I have the exact same problem but with my mother. She refuses to be tested, and she has CLASSIC cymptoms, including a dx of FM. She has a list of other related health problems that could also be celiac. My brother as well has immune system problems and many other issues and she will not tell him to go get tested. It's frustrating. I do not like to...
  22. Habs, I'm in MJ and I just hear about old fashioned foods. dw and I will have to check it out one of these days.
  23. Yes, it's a keeper. I'm half way through, and love her humour about it. It has a tonne of good information.
  24. SO I guess to be totally safe, find a potato vodka. From what I can decipher from all this chem lingo is MAYBE gluten will not survive the distillation process. However, as a rye drinker (canadian whiskey to most) I do not have a reaction. It is made out of its namesake, and it should make me VERY sick....so I have to assume it's okay. I am still waiting...
  25. These ones are flexible like the flour ones, just very small, and hard to manipulate into wraps.
