  1. Onw would wonder how a poultry type bacteria came into a chocholate production run. I have looked at the ingredients on many chocholate bars and have not seen eggs or chicken on any of them.
  2. I don't want to frighten anyone, but when our pediatrician was told our daughter (now 2) had those same symptoms, he tested her for CF. This may sound funny, but does she taste salty when you give her a little kiss? That was another symptom. I don't know why that's what they look for, but there you go. Again, not trying to frighten anyone, just something...
  3. Try putting a warm (not hot) damp cloth around your neck and up behind your ears. I had my tonsils out when I was 29 and that is what they told me to do to relieve the pain that was in my ears. SOunds wierd but it helped. Failing that? TYLENOL and lots of it.

As far as the non-celiac gluten intolerance....do they not just call that a wheat allergy? I think that's what my step-son has. We were told hem ay be allergic to wheat.
  5. I just lay there until I fall asleep. Try getting up and walking around for a few minutes. Aslo, I try to get a small snack, and then head back to bed. I also like to read a good book. At least if I can not sleep I am doing something productive. This is a big problem for me as I am an Air Traffic Controller and need to getmy rest between shifts.
  6. beerlow...I am also in Sask, and can only find the small corn tortillias at the local Safeway. I am going to Nutters soon and will try to look there. If you see any thing let me know. DS loves wraps and burritos, and so do I. I would love to be able to make some, but those small little shells make it tricky. (DS is gluten eater btw) I hope we...
  7. I've fopund that my reactions to being "glutened" have become stronger after going gluten-free over a month ago. It was an accident, but I knew within the hour.
  8. I'm glad the conversation went well. I have had similar conversations w/ both my parental units, and my mother is adamant that her symptoms are NOT celiac. I add here that she has been diagnosed with Fibromyalgia, Arthritis and various other heart and GO symptoms for some time. Her MD recommended a gluten-free diet for something else, but she was eating...
  9. I was reading on a jar of Kraft Parm. Cheese that it contains cellulose powder. Does anyone know if that is a gluten-free ingredient? I know if medication has cellulose it is not considered safe. Would it be any different for food? I love parm cheese, but will look for another fix if this is no longer safe for me. I would also like to add...
  10. Um...did the "person" who wrote this article even BOTHER to research anything?!?! If that was in fact the case, why are they not making MILLIONS treating/curing celiacs all over the globe. Interesting article, but does not seem to have even one bit of fact in it at all. TY webcrystal for giving me a chuckle to day.
  11. DW bugs me as well, but she also has 2 forums she checks a LOT more than I am/can be on here. I apprecaite all the advice I get, and help when I can. I do agree that it can be very all consuming, but what else is there. I live in a small town where the nearest support group/local chapter is 65 km (40 miles) away. Even my doctor had to make phone...
  12. I stand corrected about the rasins...sorry all. I guess that makes sense....grapes can move things along so rasins should to.
  13. You're very welcome. We need to stick together. Hope it helped.,
  14. To deal with the C, the easiest, and safest way is to increase your water intake A LOT. Increasing fiber alone and taking softeners and laxitives will dehydrate you, compunding the problem. Also, your system can become dependant on them in the long run. By all means use them for the short term, and under medical supervision. Yes, dairy can be VERY binding...
  15. There is a website out there (Celiac Canada I believe it's called) and they have quite an extensive list of products that are safe. ANyone who has emailed or contacted a company can submit to have their responses posted there. Also on the same site is a Travel section, listing gluten-free restaurants etc in all the major citites. Hope that helps.
  16. The only thing I can suggest is call ahead, or mention it when you book your tickets. The menu is made by the people who bring you Kelsy's, Montana's, Swiss Chalet etc. There MUST be something for us to eat. It never hurts to ask.
  17. Taz, How much water are you drinkning? Strictly increasing your fiber intake will not do it. You need to drink water. Apple juice is about the WORST thing to drink when you are backed up. You should avoid everything in the BRAT diet (bananas, rasins, apples, toast.) THose things combat D, not constipation. If it has been as long as you say,...
  18. We have a cuisanart breadmaker that has a gluten free setting on it. Is this setting necessary, NO! In the "Gluten Free Gourmet Bakes Bread" the recipes are set up so that they will work in any breadmaker. The gluten free setting adds time to the rising phase of the baking cycle, but like I said, it is not necessary. Cuisanart was the only one we...
  19. Saurekraut is cabbage and vinegar! I would check the label to make sure it's not malt vinegar, but 99% of it should be okay for us. I hope so, because I lOVE the stuff on my reben sandwiches.
  20. Any DISTILLED alcohol is gluten free. Therefore CC is okay. And thank goodness!!
  21. This may be kind of a silly question, but why are NEW Trix gluten-free and corn pops are not? Are they not both the same thing? Just curious.
  22. Sometimes I find I have to go into a doctor's office already having done my own research. If your body is telling you that there is something not right with it, I would listen. I'm sure that's how 99.9% of the people on this forum have been diagnosed. Pestering their doctors because something wasn't right somehow. If you suspect you have further food...

    ARCHIVED Fiance

I would like to add that my DW was skeptical at first as diagnosis was hard, and we almost had to insist on some tests. She thought it was all in my head...and she has a diploma in nutrition management!! However, she now makes bread for me, and has begun experimenting with cakes, and we are talking about making our whole hose gluten-free as well...
  24. Agent Z, My doctor told me my blood test showed a gluten intolerance (TRIPLE the level antibodies). Call it what you will, if the blood work came back positive like mine did, then you are a celiac. BTW, My doctor now informs me that these blood tests are almost as acurate as the endoscope. Hope that helps to put your mind at ease some.
  25. It's nice to read that someone is finally wising up and letting you bring in some food. ANd I have to agree that the term "small amount" cn be rather subjective. Let's hope now that when you print that email and bring it with you, that the people who sent that email remember to tell the security staff and ticket takers you are coming. Let us...
