    ARCHIVED Gf Dining Out

All butter at Outback is gluten-free. richard
  2. Not all are gluten-free but the VAST majority are. You need to check them out but you will be able to eat most. richard
  3. Wine is gluten-free. Including red. richard
  4. Most of us eat many products that aren't specifically marked gluten-free. In fact, large numbers of products that aren't marked gluten-free are indeed gluten-free. richard
  5. celiac disease experts say ALL first-degree relatives should be tested even if they don't have symptoms. This means sibling and parents. My 70-year-old father had virtually no symptoms but was positive on everything. However, according to everything I've read, your 13-month-old is too young to be tested with a high degree of accuracy. He needs to be something...
  6. I've seen at least three people who have checked this out and the answer has been the same -- the stickers do NOT have gluten. richard
  7. My DH always started out as blisters and never looked like chigger bites. I also never had it in the locations you're describing. But I understand DH doesn't look or act the same on everybody. Unfortunately, you're going to need to see a doctor to find out for sure. richard
  8. I don't worry about MSG but the miso soup can indeed have gluten. You have to check. richard
  9. A large percentage of candy is actually gluten-free, so if you're worried about that it shouldn't be a huge problem. By the time your child really cares about trick or treating you should have it down pat. Same with Easter. I think Christmas is harder because of the family dinners, parties and holiday cookies and other treats. I'm the one in my family...
  10. Everybody has to make choices and I personally respect those choices. But if you decide not to eat out at all, then you also need to consider (if you haven't already) avoiding ALL processed foods. Studies have shown that 20-25 percent of foods that companies thought was gluten-free was not. I do occasionally take a restaurant chance that I'd rather not...
  11. If raw meat has anything with gluten in those "flavorings" or "solution," it must according to USDA rules be clearly listed on the package (this because it adds nutrition, not specifically because it's gluten). I have yet to find plain raw meat, even with flavoring or solution, (I'm not talking about a marinade or actual seasonings), that has gluten. This...

ARCHIVED Test For Gluten In Food

There is such a beast but it's way too costly, doesn't work on some types of things and doesn't measure below a certain level. From everything I've read it sounds uselesss. You could probably find it by doing a search. richard
  13. I'm walking proof that willpower can be learned. I'm not a very disciplined person and I thought I had very little willpower, but in the past three years I've quit eating gluten, quit smoking, quit drinking, and lost 25 pounds. If I can do it... richard
  14. It sounds like to me that you are either allergic to wheat or this is a psychological thing. richard
  15. Never, ever found a vanilla or brown sugar with gluten. These items are safe. richard
  16. From everything I've seen the Blue diamond crackers are made ina facility that also makes wheat products, NOT on the same lineor equipment that makes wheat products. richard
  17. My youngest is 12 so please discard any food items that might not be appropriatefor a 3-year-old. For snacks there's popcorn (don't remember if a 3-year-old can eat this), many types of regular chips., Cheetoes, and Lay's Stax chips. I'd try these instead of gluten-free pretzels, which are indeed outrageously expensive. There are a handful of regular cereals...
  18. I have no other food intolerances. richard
  19. I don't think there's any need to "smuggle" in your own soy sauce. Just bring it. The wasabi should be safe. The fake crab almost without exception has wheat. Anything marinated, like the eel, will be marinated in soy sauce. Some brands of the orange fish roe have wheat. Enjoy!! richard
  20. These forums are invaluable but they can also scare people to death, in part because a fair percentage of regular posters are also people who are the most sensitive to gluten and who frequently have other health problems that complicate things. Untreated celiac is indeed a serious thing and getting used to the diet can be tough at first, but most people with...
  21. I'll second or third the notion of going to your school clinic. I wouldn't wait unless you're going home, like, right now. richard
  22. Ground or whole single spices -- pepper, ginger, coriander, cinammon, etc are going to be fine. It's the spice mixtures that supposedly can be a danger. Ever since I was diagnosed I've always heard that you have to check spices because "they" might use wheat flour "to keep it from sticking." This has never made sense to me because flour would change the...
  23. You need to tell folks what country you live in. That would make a difference. However, the best advice at first is to keep it simple -- fresh meat, fruit and vegetables are all naturally gluten-free. richard
  24. What country are you in? That could make a difference. richard
  25. 1-800-952-5080 is the company number. Hoep you've been able to get to the dentist by now, though. If you have an infection it's nothing to fool around with. richard
