    Disneyworld is absolutely one of the best places in the world to eat gluten-free. Practically EVERY restaurant there can do gluten-free. Call the Disney dining number (you can look it up online) and talk to them about it. richard

    Malt CAN be made from something other than barley but it almost never is. Rice and Corn Chex cereals are not gluten-free. You can sub Rice Crunch 'Ems and Corn Crunch 'Ems. I find them at our natural foods store and at some Krogers. Of course there's no real substitute for the Wheat Chex. If you need a recipe I'd bet you can find one easily by searching...

    My understanding is that extracts were considered a possible danger only because of the alcohol used in extraction. It could be alcohol made from wheat. But since this alcohol is distilled, most people I know, no longer worry about this. I have yet to find vanilla or vanilla extract with gluten. richard

    At last check Ross and Elmer finger paints were NOT gluten-free. Crayola dough was not gluten-free. All other Crayola and Elmer products were gluten-free. All Palmer Paints were gluten-free. richard

    I would avoid the chepaer stuff simply because it tastes awful and isn't worth buying. Still, I've never heard of a balsamic vinegar with gluten -- caramel color or no caramel color. richard

    If you are in the U.S., the Lea and Perrins worchestershire sauce is gluten-free. If you are in Canada, it is not gluten-free. Teriyaki sauce usually does have wheat in it, but not always.     Other than obvious flavors like cookie dough or Oreo, nearly all ice cream is gluten-free. My bet is just about everything they have is gluten-free, they just don't know it yet. richard

    I don't know anything about the other condition but do know about DH. After doing a search for bullous pemphigoid it does look at least somewhat similar. You also need a biopsy to confirm that one. The blood tests for celiac disease were not valid, of course, because your father had been gluten-free or nearly so for a few months.     Don't ask your doctor OR the pharmacy what's in a medication. Get the number of the manufacturer and call them. You can also look for a "compounding" pharmacy. A compounding pharmacy can make medications using the active ingredient but leaving out the stuff that you can't have. richard

    Every Outback I've been to has the brownie. It's a standard part of their national me4nu and it's gluten-free at every Outback. It's not called a brownie in the title but Chocolate Thunder from Down Under.     There is no "cheap" place for gluten-free food, at least not for specialty gluten-free food meant to replace bread, cookies, pasta etc. It's all expensive compared to the non-gluten-free stuff, especially when you add shipping.     Some yogurts use a little bit of distilled alcohol to extract flavors and so warn there could be some gluten. I think all distilled alcohol is gluten-free so I don't worry about the ones that warn about this. richard
