  1. I think steroids can give you a false negative on the biopsy but do not know if they have any effect on the blood tests. richard

  3. Based on fevers, weight loss and very bad night sweats my doctors were convinced I had lymphoma, even after they diagnosed celiac disease. Even had the PET scan. It was all caused by celiac disease. richard
  4. What kind of symptoms do you have? Is it worth it to you to try the diet and see? Did they mention doing a biopsy? richard
  5. You might be able to deal with this without medication, but I can't imagine you won't need counseling -- and I don't mean this as a criticism. This is some pretty serious stuff and I would think needs serious help. And this is from someone who's having anxiety attacks. richard
  6. You should always check medications but the fact is almost no medications use wheat as a binder. The VAST majority of medications are gluten-free. richard

  8. Celiac does qualify for a 504 and I have no problem with the school being required to help with accommodations, particularly at the elementary school level, but demanding that the daughter be allowed to come in late (unless there's something we don't know) seems ridiculous. richard

  10. All other Coke soft drinks are almost without question gluten-free, but they won't say so apparently because they have less control over the ingredient suppliers for those products. richard

  12. The official word on ALL liquor is that it's gluten-free unless they add gluten after distilling. And I can't remember finding a liquor that had gluten added yet. This is not, of course, a guarantee there isn't a liquor with gluten, but I think of scotch as safe. richard

  14. I'm not on a real tight budget but I rarely buy specialty gluten-free food. I cook my own meals from primarily fresh ingredients and I rarely eat out. If you must have bread, cookies, cake etc, start experimenting with making your own. Some of the flours that cost an arm and a leg in a health food store are extremely cheap at an international or Asian market...

  18. Even if "nacho cheese" (not sure exactly what you're talking about) has MFS in the ingredients, all you have to do is check with the manufacturer. The vast majority of MFS does not have gluten. I personally like the melted Velveeta, esecially when you toss in some hot sausage or other things. Sweet rice flour is not nearly as gritty as white rice flour...
  19. This was a symptom for me when I got really sick before diagnosis and it continued for several weeks after. Then it disappeared. richard
  20. It sounds like this person is in pain and needs immediate relief. This kind of product will never get near his/her mouth. I'd go for the relief and to heck with the gluten-free status (this is something I would seriously doubt would contain gluten anyway). richard
  21. I would agree that just a positive Igg isn't an absolute diagnosis (although I do know people who had a positive biopsy after just a positive Igg). Of course I don't know if you have celiac disease, but if you never really followed the diet very well, then there's absolutely no way for you to know if going gluten-free would help or not.   23. I don't mean to be flip, but I'm having a hard time imagining how this product would ever make its way into your mouth. I wouldn't worry about whether it's gluten-free or not. richard
  24. Well, just to frustrate you some more, nobody can tell you how long to eat gluten for certain because it depends on the individual. Most experts would say that if you've been strictly gluten-free for a while you need to eat gluten for three months. Yes, three months. The fact that you've improved on the gluten-free diet and and are feeling much sicker...
