  1. Band-aid brand is definitely gluten-free, and I've never found a bandage with gluten. BUT, as sais before, some poeple just react to the adhesive. richard
  2. "That possibly people with fewer symptoms are somehow damaged less by the same amount of gluten as people who are highly reactive?" From what I've read, the problem is that nobody REALLY knows. There's a chance that this is true, just as there's a chance that people who don't react are taking the exact same risk of cancer, other autoimmune conditions,...
  3. Used McCormick's last night. richard
  4. Dapsone is the only med I know of for DH (although I think there is a sulfa drug) and of course it's gluten-free, otherwise it would make the DH worse. However, if you are on the gluten-free diet and having problems, either your rash is not DH or you're getting gluten somewhere. If you're truly gluten-free, you won't have DH. Some people do have to avoid...
  5. Hard-boiled eggs made the night before. richard
  6. The MD sundaes, including toppings, are on the MD gluten-free list. richard
  7. All white vinegar is gluten-free. Avoid malt vinegar. Cream is gluten-free. Most sausages are in fact gluten-free. If you haven't already seen your favorite listed here, call the company and ask. I agree about the flour mixture instead of cornstarch for a roux. richard
  8. If a restaurant puts something in a salt shaker to absorb moisture it will probably be rice, not a cracker. Personally, I see no reason at all to carry salt or butter to a restaurant. I have yet to see a real butter that has gluten, and I don't think I've ever seen a margarine with it, either. richard
  9. Generally speaking you can't see celiac damage with the naked eye. The biopsies have to go under a microscope. My GI said he saw no sign of celiac when he did my endoscopy (my blood test numbers were sky-high) but under the miscroscope my villi were COMPLETELY flat. richard
  10. Modified food starch, in fact, is rarely made from wheat. You always have to check, but it's usually from something else. richard
  11. "Much, much better than the CSA, right Richard?" Never been to a CSA conference so I can't say how good they are. You know what I think of the organization's stance on things, though. richard
  12. Gelatin is gluten-free. Glutamate had no relartion to gluten whatsoever and is gluten-free. ALL Carl Buddig meats are gluten-free, and in fact the VAST majority of deli meats are gluten-free (but check before eating). Virtually every commercial spaghetti sauce out there is gluten-free so there's no need to use pizza sauce instead. Some companies like Kraft...
  13. Even on the celiac diet I am now taking Zoloft for anxiety. But this is a recent development due to other events in my life. I'd certainly talk to your doctor but follow his instructions about tapering off. richard
  14. GIG is the Gluten Intolerance Group and this is their website: Open Original Shared Link I went to the GIG conference three years ago and loved it. Lots of good information and vendors and meals you don't have to worry about. Hundreds of people will be there. I wish I could go again this year but it just won't work. richard
  15. The general consensus is that while wheat and barley grass should in fact be gluten-free, the problem is whether in a commercial opertion it's truly possible to make sure no grain gets mixed in. Personally, I would stay away from it. richard
  16. gluten-free. It's a sweetener. richard
  17. Vienna sausage, tuna and chicken in foil packages (even have flavors now), nuts, beef jerky,. richard
  18. "Kraft labels well, but do they test?" I'm sure they don't. If all you're going to buy is "tested" product, you'll be fairly limited. richard
  19. Brown sugar is gluten-free. Can't say about the ham but the company's statement is standard CYA. MOST commercial products have never been tested. I doubt the Hillshire Farm ham has been "tested." richard
  20. If Bristol is saying something like they don't put in gluten but they can't guarantee their suppliers, then the meds are almost without question gluten-free. This is just a standard CYA statement. If you ate hopsital food or are still eating hospital food this is more likely to be the source of your gluten. In general, hospitals are terrible about the...
  21. My sister (whoc doesn't have celiac disease) might not be allergic but she has quit drinking because it makes her feel so bad. Even one drink. richard
  22. Dapsone CAN have side effects but the most serious ones are extremely rare and are easy to monitor. They are also reversible. I took dapsone for more than 20 years and my father took it for 30 years with no appreciable side effects. Going gluten-free is better, mind you, but I didn't know the celiac disease connection until I got real sick. I see no reason...
  23. I can't point you to a site for this, but the general expert opinion now is that as long as you're not having problems and blood tests are OK, you don't really EVER need a repeat endoscopy. You don't even need a second one. You should, however, have repeat blood panels every couple of years. richard
  24. Plain old corn is absolutley, positively gluten-free. Corn with butter on it is gluten-free. Corn with butter and salt is gluten-free. richard
  25. You should call them to double check this, but the last time I heard from Crest, everything they made was gluten-free. richard
