  1. I also think that TCOYF is a must read... should be recommended reading for ALL women, regardless of TTC or avoidance. =) My husband and I used NFP (natural family planning) successfully through 2005. We had 3 children, spaced perfectly to our desire. No woopsies, no oooopsies. I temp charted and observed signs of fertility. Dh had a "V" after our...
  2. I'm sure someone will give a much more scientific and comprehensive explanation. But, I'll add this... allergies cause histamine to be released into the system. Celiac does not. With allergies, the body "attacks" the offending allergens. With Celiac, the body attacks itself (ie: autoimmune). With an allergy, medications such as epinephrine and/or Benadryl...
  3. I've eaten at the BD's on 95th!! No problems! Yummy too!!
  4. My 6 year old daughter is in the same boat. She's anaphylactic to peanuts, and ALL tree nuts are off limits. She's also intolerant to soy, as well as allergic to dairy and eggs.
  5. My 6 year old Celiac is also intolerant to soy, and allergic to dairy, eggs, & nuts. Feeding her is a huge challenge. We weren't sure of the soy issue until we did an elimination challenge. I didn't "seem" to notice much difference until we added it back in. THEN it was painfully obvious. I hope you aren't dealing with a soy issue as well.
  6. Congratulations!!!! You have had some wonderful advice. My suggestion isn't really advice, it's just a suggestion. Take pictures...and take them often! Having a photographic record of a growing belly is really awesome!! And, once your babe arrives.... take them daily!! =) Wishing you a happy and healthy 9 months!
  7. I'm going to order some for my daughter right now!! THank you!!!
  8. I have a bit of a different perspective. My blood tests were questionable and inconclusive. I decided to have the biopsy. The biopsy was "negative" but I didn't know that before I went gluten free. By the time I got the biopsy results, I'd already been gluten free for a few weeks (it took forever!) and was feeling better than I'd felt in years. However...
  9. I'm taking my daughter to Disney in February, and I have very little concern about dining in "the world." However, I do have to take "extra" food and snacks for her - just in case. As we all know... we simply *have* to be prepared. We'll only be gone for 3 nights (4 days) so I'm planning on taking a carry on with our clothing... and another small bag...
  10. I'm glad to read this thread! For years and years... I've dealt with the "face itchies." My skin burned, and itched.... and nothing would ever help. Years of antibiotics, different lotions, creams, magic potions (ok, not really) and if it existed under the sun and was thought to be helpful, I'd try it. When I went gluten free, the itchiness disappeared...
  11. The barley malt isn't an *ingredient* so they are technically able to say that their ingredients are gluten free. However, the barley malt is used in the processing - which inevitably is a HUGE contamination issue. Therefore... unsafe. I'm glad they put that bit of information on the containers, but it's INCREDIBLY misleading to add the gluten free label...
  12. I'm 36. My 6 year old is much smarter, she'd never consider "cheating." I hope her attitude carries with her throughout her school years and beyond.
  13. Same here! The third (and final) one did me in.
  14. I went gluten-free shortly after my daughter was dx. I felt great after that first week. I remained gluten-free for several months, and then had one slip. Then another. Then another. Next thing I know... I'm eating gluteny garbage all the time. I started gaining weight, my stomach was bothering me - tremendously - but I kept dismissing it. I won't make...
  15. Same thing happened here. Woops.
  16. My wee one, who was almost 5 at the time, was throwing up every morning. She had "the big D" several times a day, every single day. She was always hunched over, complaining that her tummy hurt. It took us a while to narrow it down. Her pediatrician could not find anything wrong with her. He sent us to an allergist, who found that she has food allergies...
  17. Thank you for the vote of confidence! We take our kids to an Asthma Education conference every year. Even if they hear the same things, over and over, year after year, I figure it'll be ingrained in their brains enough to know just how serious it can be. My oldest son nearly died of an asthma episode when he was in kindergarten. Previous to that... we didn...
  18. How about a Pulminologist? My kids have asthma, I carry epi pens. Of course, 2 of the three have serious food allergies as well. I get 2 epi pens for $25.00 with my insurance, and they are refilled as often as we need them, which thankfully.... is never. Your post scares me, as the mom of asthmatics. I hope and pray that I've taught my children what...
  19. Almost 4 years and the topic is still going strong, wow! I just completed a religious studies class in college... and I wrote a 12 page thesis on this very subject. I got an A. And, I won't further comment because I don't want to get into the debate. But, Carla is spot on.
  20. I can't imagine why eating foods made without gluten would bother anyone. gluten-free pasta is usually just rice. My dh neither has Celiac or a gluten issue - and eats gluten-free all the time. And, even he feels better when he's not consuming gluten. Perhaps it was something else in the dish that's bothering him??
  21. Local Burger, in Lawrence KS, now serves their burgers on egg free, dairy free, gluten free rolls/buns!! Olivia's Oven has started supplying the gluten-free goodies to the restaurant. And, it's a GOOD thing!!
  22. I am rather spoiled. I have a gluten-free bakery near me... and every Thursday I head out to pick up absolutely delicious loaves of sour-dough to last the week. Other than that... I don't eat bread, the other gluten-free stuff is yuck-o! Though, I do agree that Kinikinnick is decent, I really like their English muffins, even though they look and feel nothing...
  23. Hi April. We are in a similar situation. Our oldest son had positive IgA & IgG antigliadin antibodies, and a slightly positive tTg. We decided that since the rest of our family is gluten free, we'd "try" the diet with him before consenting to the endoscopy. He's doing great, so we aren't going to go any further. (He'd also been tested with negative...
  24. Unless one is dealing with Asperger's - and it's not as "easy" to identify until much later. That's the particular boat we are in with our son.
  25. That's similar to our daughter's "diagnosis." Our GI connected the duodenal ulcers with "gluten issues" and recommended a gluten-free diet.
