Inconclusive Results - Does This Mean I Do Or Do Not Have Celiac?

I have been tested twice in the past two and a half years for Celiac Disease - once when I first visited a GI and again after having a baby. Both times my test results came back inconclusive. I have been gluten-free 100% since this past test because it makes me feel so much better. I know that there is non-Celiac gluten intolerance, and maybe I fall into that category. But what if I do have Celiac and those rare times when I get glutened are really harming my body? My GI told me that there are 16 or so markers to test for but that they could only test for two. Is that true?

Get a copy of the tests that were run.  I'm not sure what he means by 16 markers.  There are a couple of blood tests, and endoscopy with a biopsy and response to diet.  Maybe he is one of the many that don't know anything about Celiac?

The usual tests are:

  • tTG IgA and tTG IgG
  • DGP IgA and DGP IgG
  • EMA IgA
  • total serum IgA (a control test)
  • AGA IgA and AGA IgG (older and less reliable tests)
  • endoscopic biopsy

There are a few older tests (reticulin IgA?) that can look for celiac disease but they are very rarely used anymore.

If he said 'markers', that sounds to me like he meens genetic markes? I know they test for two different genetic markers that most people with celiac (and quite a few others) have, maybe he thinks/knows that there are more markers that celiacs' have in common, but they can not test fro them?

Thanks, y'all! I don't think I ever received the test results from my GI, so I've requested copies of all of my records and I'm waiting for those to come back to me. I'll let y'all know what I find.

I wanted my results to be sent to my pcp but nothing was sent.I have email copies.I did one zoom call with np with team member from celiac specialist in Nov 2025 and she asked me why I wanted to know why I wanted the celiac diagnosis so bad, I sad I don't, its my life and I need revalidaion because its affecting me.KB stated well it shows you are.I asked then why am I going through all this.I was labeled unruly. Its been a celiac circus and medical has caused anxiety and depression no fault to my own other than being born with bad genetics. How is it legal for medical professionals to gaslight patients that are with an ailment coming for help to be downplayed? KB put in my records that she personally spent 120min with me and I think the zoom call was discussing celiac 80 min ONE ZOOM call.SHE is responsible for not explaining to my pcp about celiac disease am I right?

Its alarming these places are popping up in airports as well.I just saw on the news that the airport ( can't remember which  one)was going to have a fabulous smelling bakery. Not for sensitive celiacs, this can alter their health during their travel which isn't safe. More awareness really NEEDS to be promoted, so much more than just a food consumption!FYI I did write to Stanislaus to let them know my thoughts on the medical field not knowing much about celiac and how it affects one.I also did message my gi the 3 specialist names that was given on previous post on questions on celiac. I pray its not on deaf door.

      I used to be able to get the Rivera yougut i havent been able to get it lately. I like getting it did say it did say gluten free. I just looking for a good yogurt that gluten free that i can add some fruit and nuts to any suggestion would be helpful  thanks
