It's 86 and breezy and not humid at all. B)

It's 50 and breezy and was the perfect afternoon to clear the corn from the garden and "plant" my potted mint for the winter. Especially since my husband has the day off and got to do all the digging. Any day where the man gets to be in charge of the shovel is a perfect day for gardening!

Happy to see the hubs wielding the shovel today  was not used for bashing in someone's stubborn head

and the "MINT" was planted in that shallow grave hole.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable reaction to the "planted" mint pots. I'm sure it will be heated, which will at least keep me warm!

And come on, you know me well enough to know I'm too smart to hide a body "mint" in my own back yard! :P

I should hope so. I mean, we have already discussed how impossible it would be for us to get good gluten-free food in prison.

Isn't it good that you kept the mint in pots? Doesn't it take over the whole yard if you don't?

Yes. Yes it does. But it isn't my yard. They're buried in the back plot by the fruit trees and if they took all that over... who cares? But they could probably get runners in the actual yard from there. *snicker*

It is still in the pots. Just planted the pots. Hopefully I did everything right so they live through our winter. :)

Another cold morning...

Another cold morning...

We've got those here, but dry for now. It was a bit below freezing this morning, I needed my gloves! My winter coat is still waiting its first donning in the coat room though. I keep telling myself that as long as I don't need it it really isn't that bad yet. Besides, a quick jaunt to work at 30 isn't so bad in long sleeves and is far more effective than any amount of caffeine at getting me awake.

If we had snow on the ground here I would be out doing snow angels naked.  These hot flashes are killing me <_<

Much to the delight of neighbors and passerby I'm sure!

When I went through that hot flash malarkey, I would wake up hot as blazes and go outside in the middle of the night, in the dead of winter and stand there, in my nightie and I swear to you, the snow and ice around me would melt ...in a ring. I  radiated heat.

My advice? Eat more ice cream. Popsicles. Cool yourself  from the inside out.

Hubs and I love "Bomb Pops".  They are the red, white and blue things.  We go through a couple of boxes a week :D   He says he is having sympathy flashes

uh huh and I have one of those hubs too....who "likes to keep me company" with a bowl of 'scream or cookies whatever I may be indulging in... :D

and he says it's all my fault when he gains weight.

Ha!  I blame any weight gain on Hubs. He's the main cook around here.   As you guys on the "What's for Dinner" thread know, I am cookingly challenged

You are not alone. I'm not a very good cook, thus the reason why i make many soups.

Still dry but cold here. We managed a non-drill fire alarm going off at the school. Spent 20 minutes out in the cold waiting for them to figure out what was going on until they let us back in to warm up. Brrrrr!!!!

No fun. :( Had that happen once a few years ago. A pipe busted on the first floor of the building and triggered it. Had to stand outside for about 5 or so minutes.

LOL

We're unseasonably warm up here.  The leaves are actually beautiful shades of yellow and orange instead of just freezing on the tree, turning brown, and falling off in the winter like it's done the past few years.  LOL Most of my annuals are still alive! That's almost one month later than usual.

I laugh at your mint battles. Dramatic laugh - Ha ha ha! Mint only comes back about half the time up here; spreading is not a big issue.

I have read 4 Almanacs and they do not agree on our weather but it doesn't look like we'll have a bad winter.

I used to love candles but now I don't.  Many cause me respiratory problems and they are a fire hazard.  I now use battery operated ones.  I also have tons of flashlights and battery operated lamps and lanterns.

Just got new quilts for daughter and me.  Very nice.  Thicker and warmer than our old ones.  Got me some new flannel gowns and ordered new slippers.  Daughter doesn't wear those things normally.  She usually sleeps in sweats.

My food stockpile is doing pretty well.  Maybe will get some more canned beans and once we have eaten up some of the older dried beans, I'll get a few more bags.  Just sad that my chest freezer broke.  That came in handy!

It snowed last night

Hi all,  Looking for some advice. I started having some symptoms this past summer like night sweats and waking at 4 am and felt quite achy in my joints. I was training heavily for cycling for a few weeks prior to the onset of these symptoms starting. I have had low Ferratin for about 4 years (started at 6) and usually sits around 24 give or take. I was doing some research and questioned either or not I might have celiac disease (since I didn’t have any gastric symptoms really). My family doctor ran blood screening for celiac. And my results came back: Tissue Transglutaminase Ab IgA HI 66.6 U/mL Immunoglobulin IgA 1.73 g/ My doctor then diagnosed me with celiac and I have now been gluten free for 3 months. In this time I no longer get night sweats my joint pain is gone and I’m still having trouble sleeping but could very much be from anxiety. I was since referred to an endoscopy clinic to get a colonoscopy and they said I should be getting a biopsy done to confirm celiac. In this case I have to return to eating gluten for 4-6 weeks before the procedure. Just wanted some advice on this. I seem to be getting different answers from my family physician and from the GI doctor for a diagnosis.    Thanks,

Cold/flu or gluten poisoning? Hello. I've had another similar episode. I find it very difficult to differentiate between the symptoms of a cold or flu and those caused by gluten poisoning. In fact, I don't know if my current worsening is due to having eaten something that disagreed with me or if the cold I have has caused my body, which is hypersensitive, to produce symptoms similar to those of gluten poisoning.

I'm no longer dealing with constipation. I got my liver test last month and it was in normal range. Two years ago I did have a vitamin D deficiency but I'm know taking vitamin D3 pills. Last month I got my vitamin D checked and it was in normal range. I don't believe I've had my choline checked. However, I do drink almond milk eat Greek yogurt on a daily basis.

Non-Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (NCGS) can be associated with low ferritin and iron deficiency. Once Celiac Disease (1% of the population affected) has been ruled out by tests the next step is to check for Non Celiac Gluten Sensitivity (10% of the population affected) by eliminating gluten for a trial period, then re-introduce Gluten Challange. Have you been supplementing Iron? How are your liver enzymes? Low levels of ferritin indicate iron deficiency, while  59% transferrin saturation indicates high iron levels.  Possibly indicating Fatty Liver Disease.  Choline is crucial for liver health, and deficiency is a known trigger for Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver.  Some experts say that less than 10% eat the the Food and Nutrition Board established Adequate Intake that are based on the prevention of liver damage. Severe constipation and hemorrhoids may be linked to a bile or choline deficiency.  "Ninety-five percent of phospholipids (PLs) in bile is secreted as phosphatidylcholine or lecithin."  Fatty acid composition of phospholipids in bile in man   Deficiency of these bile salts causes the bile to get thick. Some people with Celiac Disease are misdiagnosed with Gall Bladder bile issues.  Removal of the gallbladder provides only temporary relief. Whether or not celiac disease or NCGS are your issues you need to look at your vitamin D blood level.
