Gluten/sweetener Free Cold Medication?

Thanks to the help of another poster, I realized I am having issues with artificial/natural sweeteners (xylitol, sorbitol, etc) I currently take Zicam, but I realized it has mannitol in it. Can anyone recommend a sweetener free/gluten free cold medication and pain relief? 

 

I don't yet know if I have a corn intolerance, but I am considering the possibility. :(

I can't get it to load at the moment, but have you looked into Vick's Nature Fusion. I know for certain they are gluten free. I believe the liquids are sweetened with honey, not sure if that is a problem for you since you're describing more "chemical" derived, processed sweeteners. They do also have pills though that would probably have such a small amount that it may not be such an issue. It works super well. Not sure how much this helps.

I don't worry about the teeny tiny amount of fake sugar that might be in a coating on a pill. You could probably wash a bit of it off and take it.

Thank you! I'm looking into it. I'm just super confused right now. For example, there is 'sucralose' in the ingredients...I have no idea if I will react to that or not. I posted a question about Gas-X causing me to bloat, (severely, it was terrible) and that turned into a conversation about all of those sugars...xylitol affects me so badly I stopped chewing gum years ago. I know that these sweeteners are (typically) derived from corn. If I do have an issue with corn, then I really can't take any otc medication it seems :(

 

 

Maybe I should look into more natural cold remedies. :( I wanted to start cutting back on corn regardless, due to it (apparently) feeding candida. I wonder if anyone has had any luck with Echinachea? It seems to be natural and even has some anti fungal properties.

 

EDIT: Apparently Echinachea is not recommended for people with auto-immune disorders, hmm. Oh well. :(

Oh...thanks Karen! Lol. I was typing my response for awhile and didn't post it until now - I didn't see yours first.

 

That is an idea. I would love to find more natural remedies, but sometimes medicine is necessary.

      Hi @Atl222 As @trents points out, there could be many reasons for this biopsy result.  I am interested to know, is your gastroenterologist concerned?  Also, are your blood tests showing steady improvement over the years? I remember when I had my last biopsy, several years after diagnosis, mine came back with with raised lymphocytes but no villous damage, too! In my own case, my consultant wasn't remotely concerned - in fact, he said I might still get this result even if all I ever did was eat nothing but rice and water.   My coeliac blood tests were still steadily improving, albeit slowly, which was reassuring.

      Welcome to the celiac.com community, @Atl222! Yes, your increased lymphocytes could be in response to oats or it could possibly be cross contamination from gluten that is getting into your diet from some unexpected source but not enough to damage the villi. And I'm certain that increased lymphocytes can be caused by other things besides celiac disease or gluten/oats exposure. See attachment. But you might try eliminating oats to start with and possibly dairy for a few months and then seek another endoscopy/biopsy to see if there was a reduction in lymphocyte counts.

The fact that you directly contacted Eden Foods and received a clear statement that their koji is made from rice only, with no wheat or barley, is meaningful due diligence—especially since Eden has a long-standing reputation for transparency. While the lack of gluten labeling can understandably give pause, manufacturer confirmation like this is often what people rely on for traditionally fermented products. As always, trusting your body after trying it is reasonable, but based on the information you gathered, your conclusion makes sense.
