Nature's Domain Dog Food Ok?

Does anybody have experience with Kirkland's natures domain dog food? Particularly the yellow bag of beef and sweet potato flavor. They are rain free dog foods but I know you can't be certain of some of the other ingreidents when it comes to pet products.

If it is grain free, then it is gluten free. (although it could be processed on the same line as gluten containing dog food) But personally I wouldn't be worried about shared line grain free pet food, since I'm not eating it anyway.

Maybe we have different levels of sensitivity, I have gotten incredibly sick from pet treats and chewable pet antibiotics. In pet food they can even use wheat starch and label it gluten free or grain free. My dog is all over my couch and bed and we snuggle a lot- if it's on her face its bound to get on mine.

Oh okay. In that case, you should probably contact the company and find out. I had no idea that they could put grains in it and still call it grain free!

 

It does make sense that it would make a difference as to what type of animal you have, how hands on you are with them, and where they mostly reside.

 

Our only furry animal is a cat and he mostly lives outdoors.

I use it for my lab. She is thriving on it. Better yet, we do not get glutened!

Oh, I read the product label (funny, I am opening a new bag this evening.....) and I can find only vitamin E and they do not indicate the source, but chances are it is highly refined.

I can vouch again that we have never been glutened by this dog food. Because my dog does not do well on grains (maybe she has celiac disease too!), I do not give her any treats, rawhide or bones. She only gets beef as a treat (our beef leftovers).

Thank you cyclinglady. My dog doesn't do well with grains anyway either so it works out. I have been giving her my leftover meat in her kong for treats as well. I never got glutened from Her ild food but it started to make her sick so I had to switch and I've heard good things about natures domains thanks!

We use the red bag (turkey) and no issues. We also get her treats from Costco - dried chicken that we break apart in smaller pieces. She's also 100% gluten-free and thriving (lab, too!).

You can also try the Blue Freedom, it is specifically labeled Gluten Free and I haven't had any issues. I also was glutened by my dog when she was on "normal" dog food, that was a fun one to figure out :) Good luck!

      Wheatwacked, are you speaking of the use of potassium bromide and and azodicarbonamide as dough modifiers being controlling factor for what? Do you refer to celiac reactions to gluten or thyroid disease, kidney disease, GI cancers?

Studies have linked potassium bromide to kidney, thyroid, and gastrointestinal cancers. A ban on it in goes into effect in California in 2027. I suspect this, more than a specific strain of wheat to be controlling factor. Sourdough...

      same! how amazing you have a friend who has celiac disease. i find myself wishing i had someone to talk about it with other than my partner (who has been so supportive regardless)

      need help understanding testing result for Naked Nutrition Creatine please

      They don’t give a sample size (serving size is different from sample size) so it is hard to tell just what the result means. However, the way the result is presented does look like it is below the limit of what their test can measure, so that is good.

      Excess iodine supplements can cause significant health issues, primarily disrupting thyroid function. My daughter has issues with even small amounts of dietary iodine. While iodine is essential for thyroid hormone production, consistently consuming amounts far above the tolerable upper limit (1,100 mcg/day for adults) from high-dose supplements can trigger both hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism, worsen autoimmune thyroid diseases like Hashimoto's, and lead to goiter. Other side effects include gastrointestinal distress. The risk is highest for individuals with pre-existing thyroid conditions, and while dietary iodine rarely reaches toxic levels, unsupervised high-dose supplementation is dangerous and should only be undertaken with medical guidance to avoid serious complications. It's best to check with your doctor before supplementing iodine.

I suspect this, more than a specific strain of wheat to be controlling factor.  Sourdough natural fermentation conditions the dough without chemicals. Iodine was used in the US as a dough modifier until the 1970s. Since then iodine intake in the US dropped 50%.  Iodine is essential for thyroid hormones.  Thyroid hormone use for hypothyroidism has doubled in the United States from 1997 to 2016.   Clinical Thyroidology® for the Public In the UK, incidently, prescriptions for the thyroid hormone levothyroxine have increased by more than 12 million in a decade.  The Royal Pharmaceutical Society's official journal Standard thyroid tests will not show insufficient iodine intake.  Iodine 24 Hour Urine Test measures iodine excretion over a full day to evaluate iodine status and thyroid health. 75 year old male.  I tried adding seaweed into my diet and did get improvement in healing, muscle tone, skin; but in was not enough and I could not sustain it in my diet at the level intake I needed.  So I supplement 600 mcg Liquid Iodine (RDA 150 to 1000 mcg) per day.  It has turbocharged my recovery from 63 years of undiagnosed celiac disease.  Improvement in healing a non-healing sebaceous cyst. brain fog, vision, hair, skin, nails. Some with dermatitis herpetiformis celiac disease experience exacerbation of the rash with iodine. The Wolff-Chaikoff Effect Crying Wolf?
